Synopsis

Little Goddess: Book One

Working graveyards in a gas station seems a small price for Cory to pay to get her degree and get the hell out of her tiny town. She’s terrified of disappearing into the aimless masses of the lost and the young who haunt her neck of the woods. Until the night she actually stops looking at her books and looks up. What awaits her is a world she has only read about—one filled with fantastical creatures that she’s sure she could never be.

And then Adrian walks in, bearing a wealth of pain, an agonizing secret, and a hundred and fifty years with a lover he’s afraid she won’t understand. In one breathless kiss, her entire understanding of her own worth and destiny is turned completely upside down. When her newfound world explodes into violence and Adrian’s lover—and prince—walks into the picture, she’s forced to explore feelings and abilities she’s never dreamed of. The first thing she discovers is that love doesn’t fit into nice neat little boxes. The second thing is that risking your life is nothing compared to facing who you really are—and who you’ll kill to protect.

FiveStars

I picked this book up because it was an Amy Lane story… who I love. But upon opening it, I found it was her FIRST story, which excited me to be honest. I love reading an author’s first work and being able to see just how much they’ve grown.
Now, I will say that had I not read other stories of her, I might have knocked it down maybe half a star, but I have and that makes it easier for me to say that this was an excellent start from this author.
The story line rings very close to Laurell K. Hamilton’s Meri Gentry series, but it also has it’s own spin, which is fun. The farther into the story we get, the less it seems similar. While I say that, there are also things that are completely different, which was all Amy Lane.
This is completely a fantasy story with it’s own types of love and relationships that wouldn’t work in other genres or stories, but it worked in this story.
There is so many spins and twists and turns that I just loved. The characters are all awesome and endearing.
I have to say my heart broke a little at the end and I had to hope that it just wasn’t true or there was a way back from it… but as I’ve started the second book I have to say that’s not how it goes, which I am sort of thankful for at the same time as it’s not a bad decision that she later tried to rectify.
As usual Amy Lane writes amazing stories and has only gotten better over time. I can’t wait to see where this story will lead us.
