Title: Criss Cross (PsyCop #2)
Author Name: Jordan Castillo Price
Publication Date & Length: November 11, 2008 – 163 pgs
Criss Cross finds the ghosts surrounding Victor getting awfully pushy. The medications that Victor usually takes to control his abilities are threatening to destroy his liver, and his new meds aren’t any more effective than sugar pills.
Vic is also adjusting to a new PsyCop partner, a mild-mannered guy named Roger with all the personality of white bread. At least he’s willing to spring for the Starbucks.
Jacob’s ex-boyfriend, Crash, is an empathic healer who might be able to help Victor pull his powers into balance, but he seems more interested in getting into Victor’s pants than in providing any actual assistance.
I really loved this book – I thought it was a great second story. The characters are still just as intriguing, if not more so in this book. You have the doctor, who is involved, then the semi-possession of the killer who was put to death and finally, the fact that Victor sees a whole new level of his gift.
I thought that this story had a lot of great details. You have Vic’s new partner, who not only takes some getting used to, but then takes some liberties. Then you have the mystery of where Lisa has gone. She was such an integral part of the first story, but she just seems to disappear for this one. Finally, you have the fierce protectiveness of Jacob over Vic. The fact that they both need some time to get used to being in this relationship and that Price doesn’t rush the relationship is a huge plus in my book. Despite some of the mystery’s aspects being somewhat predictable, I enjoyed the twists and turns, nonetheless.
This book had the three great elements that I have come to expect from this series: Mystery, Suspense and a little romance.
I am definitely looking forward to the next story.
