Author Name & Publisher: Caitlin Ricci (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: December 28, 2015 – 200 pgs

Synopsis

Prince Jai, a merciless vampire warlord, has taken up a crusade to stop the enslavement of the humans and werewolves by his own kind. He’s heard tales of the time before a comet came and changed the world, and though they may just be stories told by an old human woman, he finds hope in them. After months of killing the other vampires, he’s nearing his goal of taking the king’s throne for himself. It’s the only way to bring peace to everyone, and he won’t stop until he sees that happen.

However, his men are tired, and when one clan proves to be too much for him, he agrees to a temporary peace treaty. To sweeten the deal, Jai is given the use of a blood slave, Ash. Jai detests the use of blood slaves and wants nothing to do with them. But when he realizes Ash could be another weapon in his arsenal, he spends the months training him to be everything his master has ever feared.

This world this author created in this book was awesome I really loved it!

Now I do like slow burns so please don’t get me wrong when I say this but sometimes they can really be too slow and I will find myself getting annoyed and really wishing they would just get together already. Well unfortunately I felt like that with this book it just felt like it took forever for them to finally give in to their attraction for each other then the book was over. So honestly I would have liked to have seen more of them together. But other than that I really liked this story and all the action you get in this book and the different take on vampires this author created in this story.

There was a few times I wished Jai would have gotten over himself he was a little annoying sometimes. But I really loved the characters this author created even Jai which I grew to love his character by the end of this story .

So I will leave this review with I really liked this story! I would recommend this book!

ThreeandHalfStars

Prince Jai was a very noble vampire.  He was trying to bring together all of the beings of the world – not have the vampires take blood slaves and have a leader that can leave everyone and not just their own groups’ interest.

This book was a world of vampires, humans and werewolves.  It was a world of somewhat ordered chaos at times, but it was a very interesting place we are in – Ricci did a great job at allowing the reader to feel in the setting.  I could understand the chill in the water, the feel of rain on bare skin, the boredom and the adrenaline of fighting.

Ash is a blood slave, but not a human one.  He is a slave that is shy, kind, sympathetic towards others and one who wants to learn, grown and become more than a blood slave.

While I enjoyed this story immensely, I did feel it was a bit slow at times.  It might have been Ricci’s intent for the reader to feel the boredom of the characters by allowing the reader to read about their boredom for quite a few scenes.  I would have liked to know more about the M/M/M group of the second in command and their charge too.  I think that would have helped me to enjoy the story more since she hinted at their relationship, but we never really got a glimpse head on at it.

Overall, this was an entertaining story, but kind of slow.

Another super steamy add to this series!

You get Yves Luc’s twin brother and Rueben who is a wolf shifter in this book. The way these two were together and how they could not keep their hands off each other was one of the reasons I really liked this book!
There was also Jonny’s, Luc’s, not telling lol and not telling bed scene.. Well technically it was not on a bed I think lol bit you get my drift. Now that was so damn hot!!! Usually not a fan of the main MC couple incorporating another couple to their bed but the way the author wrote this one was perfect!
Yves is after emeralds and other gems so he can perform a ceremony to bring someone back from the dead. Rueben is there to protect him and when they found out what extra passenger Yves picked up on they way… Just wow! Talk about a twist! I do not want to give anything more away because this was such a fast read.

So I will leave this review with I really liked this book!

I would recommend this book!

YAY! We get to meet and know Yves in this story and he’s as much fun to connect to as Luc was!
I will say that I was happy to see that we finally get a some satisfaction in the whole, he’s hot, but I’m yours now situation that we got hints about in Belling the Cat.
This was a fun, action packed story with shifters and vamps and crazy emerald stones and so much more…. I loved it.
There was some crazy surprises that I enjoyed along the way too.

So for a super fast read this book was extremely steamy!!

Luc and Jonny were perfect for each other in this book. Jonny’s vampire to Luc’s Jaguar was really awesome to see especially when you can see how much they really care about each other.
Jonny catches Luc breaking into his office but Luc does not get what he broke in after so Luc tries again the next night. Jonny makes him a deal to give Luc what is after for something Jonny wants.. I am going to leave it at that because this book being so short I do not want to give any away.

I will leave this review with I really liked this Novella!

I would recommend this book!

This was the first book in this story that I read, but I didn’t feel like I was being dumped into a storyline or lost so I’d fully say this was a standalone in the series.
I loved that the shifter is more comfortable in his cat skin than his human form since we so often see shifters stay more human than their other form. I also LOVED the playfulness of Luc with both Jonny and the other weres.
There was a bit of drama, a bit of heat and all around I would say it was a good book with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end.
However, my one complaint is that sometimes I would get lost with who was doing what to the other when the two men were together. They both liked to bite and claw each other and sometimes I didn’t know what was going on to whom so that left me confused and threw off the pacing to me because I had to reread parts over and over or just keep going and hope I caught up.

So you get your vampire and human romance with this book which I loved!

Brian works in a clinic were vampires got to get their blood, which is were he first meets Kyle.
Kyle was turned against his will when he was sixteen so he is very lost and confused. Brian helps him so Kyle has someone there for him. He meets two woman who offer him a job were clients let him bite and drink from them.
Now I am not sure how I feel about that because honestly how do you start a relantionship with someone while your biting other people which in this story a vampires bite will turn you on.. I guess that part really does not make sense to me but oh well.
You get your romance between these two and some action also.

All together I liked this book!

I would recommend this book!

This was a quick read that had a little bit of several things I enjoy in a book. The plot was fun and moved forward at a nice pace with the underlying attraction between the characters lending it just enough romance to keep a smile on my face. The plot itself was interesting and held itself well through the quick pace of the story. While I generally prefer longer reads, which is all that kept this story at 4 stars, this was definitely worth picking up.
Any mistakes in grammar, spelling and formatting were minor enough to be easily overlooked. I would definitely suggest this to anyone looking for something quick, funny, witty, full of action and laced with romance.

This is a short novel which I personally found very entertaining. The setting was well described with notions and perceptions typical of the era. Both characters played well off each other and the conversations and growing emotions between the two women was quirky, delightful and totally in keeping with this atmospheric novel.
My only criticism is this book was too short, would have liked to read more about these two amazing women, will certainly be looking for more novels by this author.
Chris

FourandHalfStarsI loved the world created here. It was like reading out of one of my favorite already-created worlds that I wrote fanfic in for years. I did struggle with the connection between these two at first, but at the same time I liked the slower build up to it. We never learn all of Vi’s secrets about who and what she is, which somewhat bothers me if only because I’m interested in this take on vampires.

With science, action and creatures, this short story certainly has it all; oh! And a love story to boot. I wished it had at least one or two more rounds of editing, but the typos weren’t overwhelmingly distracting, only on occasion. Gert certainly has a personality of her own, as does Vi.

There seems to be two competing plots going on in this short story, so it probably could have easily been expanded into a novel with more focus on each. However, for a short, this was well-written and the world definitely developed enough. I could certainly visualize where the characters were (the world and city) and mostly what each looked like.

For my first foray into E.E. Ottoman’s writing, I don’t think I could have chosen a better piece.

This is an intriguing and strange short tale. It’s outside my usual preferred genre, but the premise interested me. I’m glad I picked it up.

From the description, I was expecting more humor. This was unexpectedly dark, and it was more serious than I anticipated. I found both Gert and Vi to be compelling characters, and their relationship certainly lived up to the title.

I thought it was very good. There were a number of surprises along the way. The only thing that was a bit lacking for me was that I thought the relationship itself needed a bit more depth. It was hard to understand why, outside of the physical, they were drawn to each other once the situation was resolved. The ending was a bit rushed as well. Despite that, it was still a decent story.

ThreeStar

While I liked the pretense in this story.. This one just did not grab me at all.
First you meet Dominic who is a very old vampire that has a attraction to Michael who works at Ink as a tattoo artist.  Dominic goes in and gets a tattoo even though it wont last.  Michael feels so close to him as soon as they meet even though Dominic made sure he would not remember that.
For some reason I really found Michaels friend Abby in this book to be so annoying for some reason. She went from not knowing anything about vampires to all the sudden she is a expert and so damn bossy.  That really drove me nuts.  That and the sudden switch to her POV at certain points.
Okay I think what it comes down to with this book was it was so slow I had a hard time finishing this.  Dominic turns Michael early in the book then you get some of them together and the big bad at the end but that was sorta anticlimactic to me.  You get a bunch of past memories with this one also and I will be the first to admit I am not a huge fan of those.  I can usually handle one or two but in this book you get a little more than that and I think that is why this book didn’t really hold my attention.
So I am sad to say this book was just not for me…

5 Stars for Death and the Maiden by J.I. Radke #MM #Paranormal @dreamspinners

Title: Death and the Maiden
Author Name & Publisher: J.I. Radke (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: September 11, 2015 – 294 pgs

Synopsis

Even the most lawless of creatures have laws, and for vampires, the sacrifice system is the most important. For every ten members of a coven, the sophisticated blood-drinkers have one “sacrificial lamb” to keep the worlds of the living and the Undead balanced.

August Prescott finds this fascinating—once he accepts the world is not what it seems. Kidnapped and kept in isolation, lack of memory troubles him but helps him fall into this society without resistance.

August befriends Theo, who may or may not be the only one August trusts, and when it’s Theo’s turn to drink from him in the “Sanctuary,” August could believe he’s in love. And so could fifty-year-young vampire Theo, because August doesn’t look at Theo like he’s a monster.

But Theo’s afraid of loving and must decide if he’ll waste eternity or welcome August into it. According to the Lamb, the chilling sovereign of blood-drinking Undead, that might be fate’s design. And if living forever means foregoing the comforts of humanity for Theo’s kisses, Theo’s arms, and Theo’s love, August is ready to turn.

This book was beautiful while at the same time painful…
I felt so bad for August with what he went through when he was taken.  The pain of knowing the vampires could kill him if they really wanted to and losing everything from your life before.  To go from pain to love for Theo and his new family the coven of vampires.  To not really understand about what was expected of him to the knowledge that he was a very important part to this family.  August also comes to a very important decision about his life and what he wants to do with it after his time at the coven is through.
Wow this book blew me away!  I went into this unsure having never really read a historical vampire romance before to now hoping that this will be a series so I can see more of August after what happened to see how he is dealing with it all.
I did not want to put this book down once I started it.  You have Theo the brooding vampire at times who hated the man that turned him and was worried about August. Then you have Ishmael which honestly I did not like him after the things he did to August out of spite.
This book takes you into the life of a vampire coven and there sacrifice.  How they live together day to day as a family and there Alpha keeps everyone happy and on track.  While also is in charge of dealing with the vampire who would cause trouble in his coven.  To be completely honest I would love to read a book about Alistair the Alpha.  His character really drew me in and I would love to know more about him.
All together I loved this book!
I would definitely recommend this book!

OMG!! This book was so good!
So I have been in a serious dark book mood, so this book hit all the right spots.
Michael is trying to rid the world of all the bad vampires who kill for fun. That is how he runs into Wild Bill one night at a club when he is busy trying to hunt a bad vampire.  Let me say the scene in the hotel room with all 3 of them was hot for a little bit there.  They part ways after Bill drugs him but Michael finds him again and turns the table on Wild Bill and leaves him in the same situation.  But it does not take long for Wild Bill to hunt him down and save him right in the nick of time.
These two together, let me just say the scenes when they were together I could not help thinking “Damn that is Hot!!!”  Wild Bill falls in love with Michael and vice versa.  At the same time Bill has been doing something to Michael every time he feeds from that he was unaware of.
Let me tell you Will Bill when he is being protective of Michael is hot!!
They end up in another bad situation, which I feel like made them closer than before.
All together I really loved this book and can’t wait to read the rest of this series!
I would definitely recommend this book!

Oh wow.. What a great way to start a book.. I love love loved the train scene….. and then came our first lovely surprise.
After Bea is rescued I found her to be a bit…. annoying. She questioned herself so many times about seeing the men and the wolves and knowing but not acknowledging that they were one and the same. I really just wanted her to come out and ask or say what was on her mind instead of hiding it.
I felt totally and completely heartbroken with her… until she kissed Caleb. Sadly, it didn’t work for me. I felt betrayed. Until later when she better explains herself and then I was like OH… that makes more sense, but up until that point I felt like WTF?!
I have to say all in all it was a great story and it was nice to change it from MFM to MMF for a bit and see another happy in love couple willing to take care of someone in need.
While not my favorite book Lily has written, certainly won’t stop me from picking up any of her other books in the future.

I’ve read quite a few Lily Harlem books… Loved everyone of them…. however, this is my first paranormal book of hers that I read so I was a bit on edge at how it would go over.
However, she blew me away again. I absolutely loved the way we are introduced to Aimery and Ryle. Sexy, Scary Vamps…The progression of their relationship was enticing and believable. I was glad to find out what happened to Denny, but I can’t help feeling a bit angry at him for doing what he did to Bea even after he gave his explanation.
I actually really enjoyed most of the book except I felt like some things were rushed and unexplained… Like do they eat, sleep, drink to survive or simply pleasure? And at the end of the book I felt like we went from a nice steady pace to BOOM so much had happened and I was left a bit in shock and trying to catch up with where they were and what had gotten them there.
On to the second book because I need to know what the evil witch is up to!
