Excerpt

The best part was coming next. Nathan took an absentminded bite of the sunflower seed in his paw and hung a little further out from the feeder to get a better view. Because now, the body wash was coming out. Vince’s hand stretched past Nathan’s field of vision, returning with what looked like the Natural Sea Sponge Vince had bought at Bulk Mart a month ago. He flicked open the cap on the almond-scented body wash and spread it on the sponge. Though Nathan couldn’t smell it through the window, he knew that scent. It drove him wild—he stopped to sniff it every time he walked down the aisle, and he even had a bottle on his bedside table. Not to use, just to smell every night as he lay in bed, wishing it was Vince’s hand on him instead of his own.

There it went, the sponge traveling over all the places where Nathan would like to run his tongue. Vince started on his neck, smooth up and down movements covering his skin with a rich lather. The bubbles slid down his body, clinging in a way that made Nathan irrationally jealous of them. The sponge followed the bubbles down, making circles over the sleek chest, then crisscrossing back and forth over the flat stomach and past his bellybutton, with its narrow trail of hair leading down to—OH MY WALNUTS!

Another super steamy add to this series!

You get Yves Luc’s twin brother and Rueben who is a wolf shifter in this book. The way these two were together and how they could not keep their hands off each other was one of the reasons I really liked this book!
There was also Jonny’s, Luc’s, not telling lol and not telling bed scene.. Well technically it was not on a bed I think lol bit you get my drift. Now that was so damn hot!!! Usually not a fan of the main MC couple incorporating another couple to their bed but the way the author wrote this one was perfect!
Yves is after emeralds and other gems so he can perform a ceremony to bring someone back from the dead. Rueben is there to protect him and when they found out what extra passenger Yves picked up on they way… Just wow! Talk about a twist! I do not want to give anything more away because this was such a fast read.

So I will leave this review with I really liked this book!

I would recommend this book!

YAY! We get to meet and know Yves in this story and he’s as much fun to connect to as Luc was!
I will say that I was happy to see that we finally get a some satisfaction in the whole, he’s hot, but I’m yours now situation that we got hints about in Belling the Cat.
This was a fun, action packed story with shifters and vamps and crazy emerald stones and so much more…. I loved it.
There was some crazy surprises that I enjoyed along the way too.

So for a super fast read this book was extremely steamy!!

Luc and Jonny were perfect for each other in this book. Jonny’s vampire to Luc’s Jaguar was really awesome to see especially when you can see how much they really care about each other.
Jonny catches Luc breaking into his office but Luc does not get what he broke in after so Luc tries again the next night. Jonny makes him a deal to give Luc what is after for something Jonny wants.. I am going to leave it at that because this book being so short I do not want to give any away.

I will leave this review with I really liked this Novella!

I would recommend this book!

 FourStars
This was the first book in this story that I read, but I didn’t feel like I was being dumped into a storyline or lost so I’d fully say this was a standalone in the series.
I loved that the shifter is more comfortable in his cat skin than his human form since we so often see shifters stay more human than their other form. I also LOVED the playfulness of Luc with both Jonny and the other weres.
There was a bit of drama, a bit of heat and all around I would say it was a good book with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end.
However, my one complaint is that sometimes I would get lost with who was doing what to the other when the two men were together. They both liked to bite and claw each other and sometimes I didn’t know what was going on to whom so that left me confused and threw off the pacing to me because I had to reread parts over and over or just keep going and hope I caught up.

This is old-fashioned, violent vampire lore, where fangs are sexiest when they’re part of sex, where an Underworld-esque world exists in artsy paradise Austin (Sunnydale, anyone?). This book is action-packed. Its plot and ferocity never stop. It’s a breathless, dangerous journey. I was riveted. The mythology of Old and New World clash together nicely.
Mortal stripper Vince and vampire Charlie are decent heroes. They deal with romance and loyalty with maturity, but they don’t delve deep into the existential. The world is as it is, which is vibrant and alive.
My one complaint is that the story revolves around a seedy goth club and a stripper. It’s fine for characterization, of course, but for plot, it seems like just torching the place would be satisfactory. But the from Dusk Till Dawn/Anne Rice vibe is persistent, and vampire fans will be pleased.

New Release: Go Ask Alice by Anne Key #FF #UrbanFantasy

goaskalice1400

Title: Go Ask Alice
Author Name & Publisher: Anne Key (Torquere Books)
Publication Date & Length: December 2, 2015 – 35, 000 words

Synopsis

Alice is in trouble.

Big trouble. Her girlfriend, Cat, is dead, Alice just got out of the hospital, and everything is falling apart. The girls bought a bag of pills from a dealer and took them to Cat’s house to LARP their game, Underneath. The plan is to take one pill after another until the vampires come for them.

Problem is, the vampires didn’t come, the ambulance did.

As soon as she gets home, Alice runs away to attend Cat’s funeral and meets Leveret, Cat’s cousin, and that’s when she falls down the rabbit hole.

From shrinking and growing, from a monster in a hospital to a haunted toy store, from a nightclub filled with vampires to a Ren Faire with the most unnerving Mad Hatter and a game where ninja ballerinas beat people to death with sticks – Alice’s trip follows the heart of the Alice in Wonderland story, if not the letter.

On the way Alice has to make a number of decisions – is she sane? Is she dead? Is she willing to sacrifice everything for someone else or does she exercise self-preservation even if that means losing the girl she loves?

Excerpt

I can’t believe this is happening to me. I mean seriously, what the hell? I’ve fallen all the way down the rabbit hole, crashed down and smashed the fucking mushroom, killed the caterpillar and broken all the china.

This is still my bedroom, you know? Nothing’s changed in it over the last five days. I still have posters of The Cure—yes, I’m aware that they’re all old—hanging on my walls, which are still painted black with snail trails of glitter nail polish on them. I still have my little bed, my desk that used to be my grandma’s. I keep looking around the room, waiting for the floor to open up.

It doesn’t.

I had never thought that we would be in this position, me and Cat. She said that she wanted to become a vampire, see what it was like to commit suicide, but I didn’t believe she meant it. I mean, I heard what she said and I knew that it could be dangerous, maybe, but I didn’t think it was going to be like this.

I never thought it was going to be like this.

We said we were going to try to become vampires, to push at the veil, to see what would happen. To see if the stories about the Elders coming to fetch the ones brave enough to knock at death’s door were true at all. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. We said we were going to do it together, that we were going to take pills, and I… I swear, I swear by all I hold holy, that I didn’t think she was actually going to die. I didn’t know that was even an option. I thought this was like another role-playing game, one that was just the two of us. Maybe some sort of weird illusion or something. I don’t know. I mean, fuck.

We dressed up as Isolde and Morrigan, the characters we play when we game The Elders, because those are the best costumes, you know? Black and lace and long, with corsets—not cheap ones, real ones. We both asked for them for Christmas last year. We got a bunch of pills off this dude that all the kids go to in school, this big guy from the football team, and then we sat down in Cat’s attic room, slipped into character, and we started taking the pills, one at a time. I took a blue one first. I remember taking it because it seemed so light, like the sky. Maybe if I’d started with the green one, or red one, or a pink one—but I didn’t. I didn’t start that way. I just took the blue pill.

God, it sounds so old school Matrix somehow. Do you want to take the red pill or the blue pill? I have to admit I liked the way the blue pill tasted so I took another one, but that was it.

That was the whole thing. Cat took a couple of things and started ranting about eternity and God and how we were going to be together forever and, me? I fell asleep.

When I woke up Cat was gone. And by gone I don’t mean disappeared or turned into a vampire or left me there alone or anything good.

I mean she was dead.

Like swollen up and gross and… I don’t know. I freaked out a little. She smelled bad and there was puke everywhere and then her mom was there and screaming and the cops came. I didn’t do anything but sleep for twelve hours, and no one believes me, not even now.

I mean come on. We were playing around. We were being Gothy; we were being drama llamas for Christ’s sake. I never once thought it would be real.

I thought we’d get high and fucked up and see things. I thought it would be like when we decided to slit our wrists together and ended up with Cat throwing up at the sight of blood and both of us stealing a couple of beers from the fridge in Mom’s basement. I didn’t even need a bandage, for god‘s sake.

But no, here I am. I’ve still got a hospital bracelet around my wrist that I cannot bring myself to cut off. I’ve lost my best friend. And I can hear Mom on the phone to Dad.

“Rick, you have to come get Alice,” she says, and she’s crying—not little tears either, but hitching, gulping sounds that prove to me that I’ve really hurt her, like genuinely. “No. No, I don’t understand why she did it. She swears it was a stupid joke, one of her games, but it doesn’t matter. That other little girl ended up dead, and her parents are going to kill our baby!”

Her parents.

Like Mom had never even met Penny and Marshall. Like she didn’t know Cat’s fucking name. Like Mom and Jeff hadn’t gone over to their house and had a bottle of wine, fondue—did people even eat fondue anymore? For god‘s sake, I thought fondue was something hippies did—and now it’s been four days and it’s like they never even knew each other. Like they believed that I would hurt Catherine.

I never wanted to hurt anyone. I wanted to get high and be edgy.

When did suicide pacts actually fucking work? They didn’t. Even Romeo and Juliet fucked them up. And we… we weren’t supposed to die. Live forever, sure. Not die.

This book was a awesome addition to this series!
So we get Jin and Logan again with this book but this time Jin has lost his memory after something bad happens with his son.
When Logan goes to get Jin is when Logan’s family decides to over throw him and put his youngest brother in charge. Well let me tell you that was only a little bit of what happens in this book. There was just so much going on in this book and I do not want to give away any spoilers.
You get more of the love between these two men and the love they have for their son while they are dealing with everything that is going on around them.
I have to say I am not a huge fan of Logan’s brothers at all anymore after this book. The things they do to Logan and Jin ugh!! It was just so wrong and you should never treat your family that way at all!
So with this book you get angst and action along with so much steam which I really loved how everything came together in this book! The way the author has created this shifter world and these characters was honestly just amazing! I was on the edge of my seat through this whole book just hoping for the beat for Jin and Logan and their son.

All together I really loved this book and this series!
I would definitely recommend this series!

But Domin may have set too lofty a goal: his normal leadership style isn’t working.

He also must determine how to deal with a conspiracy, all the while falling hard for a man who, for the first time in Domin’s life, reciprocates that love. This book was another really good addition to this series!
So instead of getting Jin and Logan with this book we get Domin who is the new semel-aten and Yuri his mate.
Domin is trying to help with the people he has brought with him in his new role who are all having problems while at the same time learning his new role in leadership. There really was so much going on in this book I some times had a hard time following it all so it would take me a little bit to catch up.
You get your angst in this book and action while also getting the steam from Domin and Yuri. You definitely feel the love Domin has for Yuri his mate and vice versa. You get to see Jin and Logan in this book too along with other characters from this series.
I really liked where this author took this story because I have always wanted to know more about Domin especially after what happened between Yuri and him in the last book. I was definitely on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading this book and I could not put it down!

All together I really liked this book!
I would recommend this book!

Modern day fairy-tale princess Taylor Hatfield has problems. One: he’s a guy. Two: he’s Sleeping Beauty, the most useless princess in existence. This book was a really good addition to this series! This book can not be read as a stand alone because Taylor and Corentin are the couple in the first book, so you must read that one first or you will be lost.
You get more of Taylor who just happens to be sleeping beauty but also happens to be a man. But lets not forget that he is also a dragon too.
Then there was Corentin who is a huntsman/ witch who can not remember anything after a certain amount of days. So he must restart by reading his journals to find out who he is due to a curse. I have to say I loved his character because there is just something about the brooding bad boy who is trying to be good.
You get more action in this book while they try to stop Atticus Taylor’s brother who is also Snow White who is very evil. You see a lot of the same characters from the first book while meeting new characters like the Queen of Hearts.
I will be honest and say there were parts of this book that really dragged for me a little bit. But I really loved what this author did with this story and the twist on the fairy tales. I also really liked how this author wrote these characters. There were some you love and some that were so evil that you were not a fan of.

All together I really liked this book!
I would recommend this book!

So before going into this book I wanted to let you know not only will you be getting M/M scenes but also M/F and F/F scenes too.  Also before you go into this book you will be getting multiple different POV’s from many different characters in this book too. I know some are okay with those things and some are not so I just wanted to give a little warning. I thought everything personally for me went together perfectly in this book and usually I am not a fan of multiple POV’s but for me it worked in this book.  Yes there were some characters I was not really a fan of, so I honestly did not care for their POV but without reading it I would have been lost reading this book. Also this was the longest book I have read in a long time which I loved. Me being a fast reader it is a refreshing change for a book to take me longer to read. Now that is not without me saying some parts did  drag a little bit for me.
So in this book you get Alain the wizard at first and Orlando the vampire who meet about striking up a alliance between the vampires and wizards.  Which let me stop right there and say what is better then wizards and vampires together I mean really having the two mix together and become couples is just awesome! Okay so Andy lets Orlando drink some of his blood to see if Alain is lying.  That is when it hits Orlando that Alain is his partner the special someone who can make it so Orlando can see the sun again.  Now I could go into every couple in this book that we got a POV from but that would take me awhile their were a lot lol. There is also the special way that only a certain wizard and a certain Vampire can be a partner. Then once you found your partner the way everything slowly grows between the two of them I have to admit the way the author does this was awesome!
I really did love the way the author mixed these two paranormal beings together.  You get a lot of action with this book which has you on the edge on your seat at times and the steam between all these couples was so damn hot!  Then there was the ending which had me in tears, which I will not tell you why but I can tell you I definitely needed a few tissues after reading that part… I don’t want to go much more into it because I do not want to give away any of this book.  This is one you need to read for yourself!
So all together I really loved this book!
I would defiantly recommend this book!

This book was a quick read that made me smile, laugh and shake my head all in a short span of time. The characters were both entertaining and the plot carried itself along well. While there was definitely space for more within this story, it read well for what it was. If you’re looking for a quick, interesting read, this is a good place to start.

It was decently written with only a few minor errors I came across and flowed well. The formatting was well done and while a bit more length would have been wonderful it was lovely as is. I would recommend it for waiting room read.

ThreeandHalfStars

I liked this book. It seemed like a new and slightly different take on the usual vampire mythos, which endeared it to me. I did have two problems with it. First, it was pretty short. I don’t have anything against short stories, or novellas. Some can be extremely powerful and moving. Some, like this one, kind of leave me wanting more. I felt this story needed to be longer, because, second, it seemed like the relationship developed too quickly. I’m not usually against the ‘instant connection’ device in fiction, but sometimes the change of emotions is so fast that things feel a bit more shallow than intended. I feel like the connection here was supposed to be overwhelming for both characters, and while she hit it on the head for Emigh, Anise came off a little worse in the characterization area. She seems to be really in to Emigh when she invites her over, but when things go a little further than she’s ready for, she really makes it seem like she never intended anything romantic at all. This was confusing for the reader as much as it was for Emigh. Because she did do some pretty brazen things leading up to the big change of mind. Then she has another lightning swift change of heart, and is declaring that there’s nothing Emigh can do or say to change how she feels. All of that just seems so quick that it’s trite. The story would have benefitted from a little extra time, or length, to let things develop in a more natural way. On the other hand, it was a quick read, and enjoyable. It took the reader from the initial isolation and loneliness to a certain warmth and hope for the future.

Amy P.

FourStars

This short novel left me in a bit of a dichotomy regarding its review. The language used varied between almost poetical Victorian to using modern day idioms. The settings and the clothing were also so diverse, from cottages out in the middle of nowhere, to being able to order any variety of fast foods, apparel that appeared to vary from one generation to the next. I really found it difficult to place what decade this novel was set it.
However I also found this novel really beautiful, it was passionate and very sensual. The characters were each very unique, having their own strengths and insecurities and the author brought this out superbly. A really emotional and almost wistful novel.
The plot is well developed and delivered in a very touching and sympathetic way, the author makes us believe all things are possible and believable, providing you trust in true love.
I would certainly recommend this book and would hope to read more about the ardent and romantic relationship between  Emigh and Anise.
I would have given this novel five stars, despite my confusion, had it not been for the grammatical errors at the beginning and the poor layout in sections, which halted the natural flow the author had so cleverly developed.

Excerpt

For the first time in…hell, it must be years, Emigh’s life felt bright and vibrant. Meeting Anise was the dawning of a new day. The lift she’d needed for so long.

She dared to pick up the phone that first night and call Anise. To hear that special kind of something in her voice as they spoke. To talk about everything and anything…well, not everything. She didn’t broach the subject of her sexuality—maybe not hers, but Anise’s. As a matter of fact, Anise mentioned neither male nor female friends.

Anise spoke of her passion for crafting corsets and perfume. She loved to bake. She was estranged from her family. They didn’t understand that she didn’t want to work a boring nine-to-five job, train into the city, train home again at night, exhausted. They thought she was wasting her life away, and because she wouldn’t come around to their strict way of thinking and living, she walked away from them.

Emigh admired her spunk and dedication. Smart, sweet, articulate, and she made her laugh, which was a tough thing to do. Anise was definitely a rare breed of woman.

But how long could it last?

She couldn’t tell Anise she was a vampire, let alone that she would never die.

Vampire.

How she hated the word! But until someone came up with a better one, she was stuck with it.

Of course, Anise would never believe her. No one did. Every once in a while some beautiful woman would come along, and their connection would be instantaneous…sizzling. Emigh would find herself whispering the truth to her beloved. Inevitably, the not-so-twin flame would beat a hasty retreat, believing Emigh was crazy, or a liar…or both.

Crazy and liar are never good things in a relationship.
