Title: Dancing Around The Cop (Alpha and Omega #2)
Author Name: Lisa Oliver
Publication Date & Length: August 12, 2015 – 374 pgs

Synopsis

Terry Martin has an awesome life – good friends, loving parents and a job he loves designing all of the bright and wonderful costumes for the drag queens at Club Blue. Sure, no one but his parents know he’s an Omega wolf, but he’s okay with that. Unfortunately being a twink often means getting picked on and after a night out with friends, Terry has the misfortune to meet an Alpha wolf, Detective Zander Samuels – his true mate.

Zander can’t have a mate, especially a pretty, sweet little man like Terry. His friend of more than ten years, and partner on the force hates gay men with a passion and Zander won’t risk the only true friend he has, not even for a mate. So even though he’s scented Terry, Zander is determined to stay away from the Omega. Unfortunately the Fates are just as determined that the two men should be together and when Zander finds himself hit with the mating curse in more ways than one, he comes up with a plan to have Terry without upsetting his friend.

A nasty boss, a homophobic partner, some really jerky behaviour by Zander and another Alpha wolf keen on claiming Terry for his own, all conspire to stop any chance these two have of finding true love. But did I mention that the Fates are really persistent?

Warning: This book is about male wolf shifters, it includes coarse language, mm sex scenes, a gorgeously cute Omega who will melt your heart and an Alpha wolf you will just want to slap around the head.

FiveStars

Lisa Oliver continues to blow me away with her books. This book was not a surprise considering I have come to expect this out of Lisa Oliver.

The fact that this book is about a closeted detective named Zander made this book even better. But what made it the most interesting was his mate is a fashion designer for drag queens and an omega, a guy, and a twink to boot.

Zander tried to deny Terry because he is scared of losing his homophobic best friend Sully, his job, and his lady’s man play boy status. But there is a thing that is called FATE that put a damper on Zander’s plans of denying that he wants Terry.

Another interesting and enjoyable read in this series. I love how Lisa Oliver is constantly able to suck me into her stories and leaves me waiting impatiently ready for more. Another wonderful story!!!

Author Name: Lisa Oliver
Publication Date & Length: March 27, 2016 – 256 pgs

Synopsis

Tobias tells himself he’s having fun. He has a great life as a beta in the Cloverleah Pack, and while danger still threatens the pack, he has his friend’s wedding to look forward too, and the pleasures that come from hookups in random places. He’d like to meet his mate, just so he’s not the odd one out in the inner circle, but it’s not something he’s expecting anytime soon. So when a hookup just before the wedding leaves Tobias with a permanent scar, he wonders where the heck his life went wrong. Especially when the man responsible for the wicked set of tooth marks, disappeared after the deed was done, to ring a man called Kurt.

Kurt and Luke have been mated for three years. As bear shifters, Kurt has known from puberty that he will two mates and once he’d claimed Luke, his mama warned him to be on the look out for a human female. So when Luke rings him and lets him know he might have accidentally on purpose bitten a wolf shifter, from some town they’d never heard of, Kurt heads to Cloverleah to sort out the mess.

Sorting out their mating is just one of the things the three men have to contend with. A magic user has stepped up his game and no where on packlands seems safe. When Tobias gets taken, Kurt and Luke are helpless to do anything about it. It’s going to take the power of the pack before life will be safe again, for any of them.

Warning: Contains scenes of M/M and M/M/M sex. It also contains a special kind of bear, his grumpy mate, and a wolf that just wants to be loved. HEA and no cheating guaranteed.

While this book can be read as standalone, you will understand more about the secondary characters in the book, if you have read the others in the series.

FiveStars

This series has just totally captured my heart. I have read each of the books in it so far and I am now impatiently waiting for the next book to come out so I can see what it goin to happen next.

It seems that with each new mating that happens, it happens right when the pack needs it the most. These men in this pack have a calling and that calling is bringing everyone together to a group of men that not only have the strength to protect their pack but also innocents. They have a destiny and even if they do not know what that destiny is just yet, they do they can only accomplish it together.

Danger and evil keeps seeking this pack out and instead of the stress of it caring a wedge between the mates or pack members it does the opposite and brings them all closer together.

And once again in this book, fate has stepped in just in time and brought together three mates (Tobias, Kurt, and Luke) just when their bond was needed the most for not only the pack but for them.

Lisa Oliver is just truly an amazing aunt to be able to come up with a long standing series and make each book more exciting then the last.

5 Stars for Fae For All (Cloverleah Pack #6) by Lisa Oliver #MM #Shifter @wisecrone333

 1.5

Title: Fae For All (Cloverleah Pack #6 – Standalone)
Author Name: Lisa Oliver
Publication Date & Length: May 10, 2015 – 582 pgs

Synopsis

Jax Cooper never planned to meet his mates. A strong wolf shifter, who keeps his Fae heritage hidden, all Jax wants to do is keep his pack safe and his secrets tucked away. But when men turn up from another pack, all intent on stealing the two men Jax knows to be his, then Jax’s wolf has a hard time controlling himself.

Aelfric and Fafnir have been together for three hundred years. Not that unusual for two Sidhe Fae princes. Having known since puberty that their third destined mate was a wolf shifter, they are overjoyed when Dean, the sweet Omega from the Cloverleah pack gets in touch with them to let them know some possible mates have been found. Hurrying to the Cloverleah Pack, the two men not only find their mate, but also find out that the Cloverleah pack is in trouble – and it’s coming from all sides.

Trying to keep his head, and his mates, Jax has to rely on his friends from the pack to keep things safe. Between two other packs, vampires, the Shifter Council and the Fae Council all trying to intervene in what should be a simple mating process Jax has to wonder if keeping the two beautiful men, destined to be his, is worth losing his life over.

Warning: This is an m/m/m story – it contains strong language, some violence, and acts of male on male sex. This work of fiction includes a beautiful blond Fae with a tendency to have tantrums, a strong wolf shifter who would never describe himself as a nice person and a dark haired Fae who is desperately trying to hold them all together.

Review

FiveStars The surprises just keep coming and so does the danger to the pack and all the members. But along with all that comes new mates with new powers that are meant to protect them all. It is just a matter of each mate wanting to participate in the pack and except their fate. And sometimes that is easier said then done. Especially with all these men.

In this book Jax meets his mates. Yes you heard me right mates, as in two of them. Along with meeting his mates, more of Jax’s past comes to light along with his secrets. Jax is a natural born protector and fighter. It is his way. He is also an Alpha at heart. Being a protector it is his instinct in human form to not claim his mates because he knows how his mates will view him for also being a wolf shifter.

But like most everything in these books, fate has a plan for these men and nothing they can do will change it. Either Jax, Aelfric, and Fafnir can except they they are fated mates and meant for each other or they can turn their backs on one or all of the triad and never be truly happy again.

Once the three except one another, that is when the real danger comes to light. It will take each one of the Cloverleah pack to put to use their own special talents to save them from the danger that keeps coming. And it is not over yet!!!!

I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and see just what Lisa Oliver comes up with next because I know it will be amazing as usual.

FiveStars

I have to say that Lisa Oliver surprises me more and more with each book in the Cloverleah series. I read a book in the series and I think to my self “it is going to be hard for any other book to beat this one”, then Lisa does just that and blows me away with the next book in the series and how each book is so different then the last.

In this book I completely fell in love with both Dean and Matthew.

Dean being an omega has always been perceived as weak because of his status and the fact that he is smaller then everyone else in a normal pack. He started getting stronger when he met his Alpha Kane and then consequently the pack members but he has never really came into his own. Well that is until he meets his mate Matthew that is.

Matthew is an alpha but he does not want the responsibility of being an alpha of his own pack so after being w loner wolf for so long he joins the Cloverleah pack and meets his mate.

Matthew in my opinion is the perfect mate for Dean because he does not see anything about him as being weak and he will not allow Dean to view himself that way either.

Once mated everything falls into place for both Dean and Matthew but that does not come without a whole new set of trouble that the pack will now have to face together. If they do not then they may just lose their Omega and Matthew may lose the love of his life.

Lisa Oliver just truly blows me away with how much better this series keeps getting and I cannot wait to start the next book in this series.

Review

FiveStars This has to be the most controversial book in the series so far for these pack of men. This book has a little bit of everything from military generals turning on their men to new pack member not being who he claims to be and endangering everyone in the pack.

This book is about Troy and Anton. After months of waiting to meet formally, they think that their time has finally come. But fate has different plans for these two men and if they are not careful they may never get to meet each other in person. There are more than one source trying to keep these men apart. They both have to have faith in each other, which is not easy to since they have never met.

I believe that this mating is probably the hardest to accomplish and once they do, both men have to figure out if they do trust the other or would it be better to walk away. I really enjoyed this book. It had so much mystery mixed into it along with the fact that these two men just could not seem to get it together. They are both insecure and have things they need to work out within themselves before they are able to commit fully to each other. And as always Lisa left this book ending with a cliff hanger and left me waiting for more.

Great read!!!

Author Name: Lisa Oliver
Publication Date & Length: May 9, 2014 – 287 pgs

Synopsis

Scott Peterson, beta wolf in the Cloverleah Pack, has a good life. He loves his cars, riding his Harley, and going out with pack members and friends. But when an attack on his pack by a bear shifter, brings his mate into his world, from Texas of all places, Scott realizes he could lose everything he ever held dear.

Damien, Alpha wolf of the San Antonio Pack, didn’t want to go to Cloverleah and definitely didn’t want to be chasing a rogue bear shifter that was threatening the Alpha of the Cloverleah Pack. But he was in for a pleasant surprise when he finds his mate. Now, if he could just find the time to enjoy him.

Between murderous bears, deceptive wolves, two packs and a BDSM club, the road to HEA is anything but smooth for Scott and Damien. And then there’s a fire, and an Alpha Challenge, and let’s not forget Diablo and Griff’s wedding. About the only thing Scott and Damien haven’t got is time to be together, and it is that lack of time that could pull them apart.

Warning. This book is about gay wolf shifters. It contains m/m anal and oral sex, rimming and a spanking scene. There is also some violence, fighting wolves and a couple of deaths of minor characters. Child Sexual Abuse is also referred to. Please do not buy this book if these aspects offend you in any way.

Review

FiveStars I have to say that this book in my opinion has a lot more drama and sadness in it versus the other precious two books. To say that there was parts that truly broke my heart would be an accurate statement. But regardless it was still an amazing read and at this point my favorite in the series.

Damien is the Alpha of the San Antonio pack that is friends with the Cloverleah pack. Damien thought at one point that even though Shawn was not his true mate that he loved him. Turns out that it was not reciprocated but they remained friends. When trouble heads towards the Cloverleah pack, Damien and some of his enforcers are there to back them up.

Once there Damien finds his missing link on the form of Scott. To say Scott is not thrilled about his true mate is an understatement. Damien is the opposite of what Scott pictured. Damien is a leader that keeps his emotions locked away. He does not believe that he is capable of loving anyone and does not believe that he can truly give Scott what he wants.

Regardless they try to make it work between them and then is when the true trouble comes calling. Damien may realize to late his feelings for Scott.

This book has many things about it that broke my heart but it was such a great read. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series to see what happens with Scott’s twin brother and what awaits him and his true mate because I am positive that Lisa Oliver has an incredible book for him.

Derrick “Diablo” Franklin was just looking for a hook up with a like minded shifter. The sexy cat shifter was deep undercover for the FBI and although his case was coming to an end, he had hopes for his career that didn’t involve finding a mate.  FiveStarsLisa Oliver has once again blown me away. Book one in the Cloverleah Pack series was amazing but book two was off the charts. I love it when an author writes an amazing book and then is able to blow the top off of that book and create another book in the same series and make it just incredible. That is exactly what Lisa Oliver did with this book. Not only that but Lisa set it up for book three to be even more out of this world.

Griff in my opinion is just this big teddy bear once you get past the way he looks on the outside. His outside appearance makes him look like he would rip your head off with his big build, tattoos, and strong features but once you get to know him you know that he is lovable, would do whatever necessary to protect those he loves and his pack, and is a very loyal person….,a big teddy bear.

Diablo is a beautiful person appearance wise and many people to not see past that, which is a mistake. Diablo may be beautiful but he is also strong, capable of taking care of himself and those he cares about, and very loyal and intelligent. So in other words a lethal combination that most do not realize.

When Griff and Diablo meet they do not immediately realize they are mates but they know they are strongly attracted to one another. Once they realize they are fated mates they will do whatever possible to be together and to protect each other from all the harm that is quickly coming their way.

It is not easy for them because they have criminals out to get Diablo for being FBI and they have other members from other packs wanting to challenge them for Diablo. But these two men stand strong in their belief that they can conquer as long as they do it together.

This book is was left with a cliff hanger for book three and I cannot wait to read it because it is shaping up to be even better then the previous two books and if this book is any indication of what we readers have to look forward too, we will not be disappointed.

Title: The Reluctant Wolf (Cloverleah Pack #1)
Author Name: Lisa Oliver
Publication Date & Length: February 24, 2014 – 458 pgs

Synopsis

Kane Matthews, Alpha of his small wolf pack in Cloverleah has been raised to believe that mates are not possible for gay men and has lived his life accordingly. Kicked out of his home pack years before because of his sexual orientation Kane has built a solid and comfortable life for himself in the small town of Cloverleah.
Imagine his surprise when an unscheduled visit to the small town’s diner unleashes a flood of emotions in the man he didn’t think possible – not least of all, lust. But finding out it is possible for wolf shifters to have gay mates is just one of the things that Kane has to overcome if he is to have the forever future he has been hoping for.

Shawn Bailey never expected to find his mate. He is just too different – an “Other” who has the power to instill fear in any other shifter. After spending ten years on the run from his Alpha father he spends most days just trying to stay alive. When a
chance encounter brings him face to face with his mate Shawn has to decide if the man in front of him is worth staying for.

But with hunters, Alpha challenges, Kane’s parents and a smitten Alpha from another pack all interfering in Kane and Shawn’s budding romance, not to mention some surprising answers about Shawn’s own unique talents can these two true mates find the happily ever after they are looking for?

Warning: Some people may find the content of this book objectionable. Includes m/m, graphic sexual situations, a short BDSM scene, strong language and shifter/magic themes.

Review

FiveStars I am such a huge fan of shifter books. What made this book even better is that not only is one of the wolfs a shifter but he also has “other” in him.

Kane is an Alpha but what makes Kane so likable in my opinion is even though he is alpha he does not have a problem with letting his guard down and showing his insecurities. He is very protective of his pack but at the same time he is compassionate towards others and has no problem excepting them in his pack so long as everyone is ok with it.

Shawn is the one that stole my heart in this book though. In his own right he could have hated other wolves for the way he was treated the past ten years but he does not. Instead he has so much goodness in him and he will do whatever it takes to protect the ones that he loves. Which as it turns out is Kane and their pack.

This book was full of suspense. I enjoyed how there was something different at each twist and turn. It was always an adventure and trouble just seemed to find these two men like the plague. But the one thing that never changed was they always stood by each other and their pack no matter what the situation was.

This was such an amazing read and I cannot wait to read book two.

Review

FourandHalfStars

Third Mate is the third in the River Wolf Pack series. Unlike the first two books, which focused on one relationship per book, Third Mate follows three relationships, with multiple points of view.
I’ve been a fan of Rebecca’s since reading First Omega, and I’ve absolutely loved the entire series. Third Mate was no exception. Tensions in the River Wolf Pack have been building since book one, and it was interesting to see how that storyline was dealt with, as well as what it meant for Josiah, River, and their daughters. Continuing from book two was the relationship between Jax and David, which somehow managed to get even more complicated before getting better. But I absolutely loved seeing that play out and I was so happy that they were able to find peace and happiness, even if it wasn’t the way they first thought it would be.
The new love story in book three was that of Sam and Leo. I was so pleased to see Sam finally find a place in the pack, especially with someone like Leo. Still, there was a large part of me that wanted Foster to be part of the mix, but I feel like there’s enough grey area that it could be revisited. And if not, then I guess the reader can determine whether Foster found his true mate or if he decided to mate with Leo and Sam.
On top of an excellent plot, the sex scenes were hot as always. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying addition to the River Wolf Pack series.
Alyson

Excerpt

In Second Alpha, Sam was taken into River Wolf Pack after losing his pack. He roamed the woods for months with his brother until his brother was killed by a trap. In Third Mate, Sam has become enamored with grouchy, sexy alpha, Leo. He has a feeling, though, that Leo is in love with Foster, Sam’s best friend. Shy and emotionally vulnerable, Sam tries to keep to himself, but often Foster won’t let him.

Excerpt from Third Mate:

“What’s cooking?” Foster asked. “It smells really good.”

“Lasagna and garlic bread,” Leo answered. “Also salad.”

“I didn’t think you could cook.”

Sam couldn’t help glancing up at that, and he found the alpha looking sheepish.

“Brooks cooked for me.”

“Of course, I did.” Brooks came in from the kitchen, apron still around his waist. “And I’m staying to eat, too.”

Foster grinned at Brooks. “I’m glad you’re here. Do you know if the library has a book on the health of omega shifters?”

Sam had the urge to kick Foster as Leo turned green eyes on Sam.

“Something wrong with your health?” At Leo’s intense scrutiny, Sam’s heart sped up to the point his vision whited out for a moment, and the next thing he knew, strong arms came around him, lowering him onto soft cushions. When Sam’s eyes fluttered open, he almost stopped breathing to find Leo’s face close to his own. “Are you okay?” Leo asked.

Foster’s worried face appeared over Leo’s shoulder. “He hasn’t been eating right.” Foster looked at Brooks. “Do you have a book on it?”

“I don’t think so,” Brooks said. “You’ve seen everything I have on the subject of shifters of any kind. I’ll add it to the list of books I want to get in the city.”

“You’re going to the city?” Leo asked. Sam had heard that after the kidnapping Brooks had said he’d never go back there.

“No. Xavier will go. Or Malcolm.” Brooks looked down at Sam. “I’ll get you some water.” Sam tried to struggle to a sitting position, but Leo’s big hand on his shoulder stopped him.

“Rest a minute. How long have you been having dizzy spells?”

There was no way Sam was going to tell the alpha he’d collapsed out of sheer excitement just because Leo had looked at him a certain way. “I’ve only had a few recently.”

“Do I have to come over and make you eat every day?” Leo asked, and Sam had a sudden vision of the alpha force-feeding him something that wasn’t food. He swallowed audibly, and caught Foster’s knowing smile over Leo’s shoulder.

“I think he’d like that,” Foster said. Fuck, Sam was going to beat Foster’s ass when they got home. He settled for a scowl for now. It didn’t seem to worry Foster too much. Brooks came back with the water, and Leo helped Sam sit up before moving away.

Foster took his place on the couch. “Feeling better?”

Sam nodded. “I just need to eat, I guess.”

“Well, it’s ready, so let’s dig in,” Brooks said, leading the way into the dining room.

It wasn’t difficult for Sam to eat the entire portion given him; the food was delicious. He tried to resist, though, when Foster pushed seconds onto his plate.

“Come on. Be a good boy and eat it all up.” Foster grinned at Sam, and Sam saw Leo watching him. How could Foster be so oblivious to the alpha’s interest? Sam took a bite of lasagna to appease his friend, but as soon as Foster began talking to Brooks, Sam put his fork down and drank his water instead. That is, until Leo growled. With a sigh, Sam took another bite of lasagna.

“How come you asked us to dinner?” Foster asked Leo. “Sick of the food in the dining hall?”

Leo looked uncomfortable. “Not at all. I just thought…” He glanced at Brooks. “Brooks could use some practice in the kitchen.”

“Oh, well, thanks for inviting us.” Foster shoved a large forkful of salad into his mouth and chewed, missing the eye roll Brooks gave Leo. So Leo had enlisted his friend’s help in impressing Foster. Figured. Sam was just the necessary tag-along.

“Will you guys be staying in the guest bungalow permanently?” Brooks asked Foster and Sam.

“I think River said he was going to have something a little smaller built for us, unless we want our own places,” Foster said. “I think we’ll stay together, though.”

“Oh?” Brooks looked with interest between Foster and Sam. “It’s like that, is it?”

“Like what?”

“He thinks we’re fucking,” Sam said, and Leo dropped his fork onto his plate with a clatter.

Foster laughed. “Oh.” He shrugged.

Sam wondered at the fact he didn’t deny it. Leo looked apoplectic, and Brooks seemed to be trying to hide a smile.

“Dessert anyone?” Brooks asked.

Sam moaned at the very thought of more food. He leaned back in his chair and held his stomach. “I’m stuffed.”

“What did you make?” Foster asked.

“Strawberry shortcake.”

“I definitely want some.” Foster looked at Sam. “We can share.”

Sam had every intention of refusing a bite, but when Foster held out the forkful of fluffy cake, dripping with red strawberry juice and whipped cream, he found himself opening his mouth to take it in, eyes fluttering shut as his lips closed around the fork. When he felt the fork slide from his mouth, he opened his eyes to see three pairs staring at him. “What?” Sam licked whipped cream from his lips.

Leo abruptly stood and mumbled something about having to use the bathroom.

Publication Date & Length: July 8, 2016 – 236 Pages

Synopsis

Dr. Miles Grant acknowledges that his destined mate could be either gender even though his bisexuality cost him his family and his pack. Luckily he found the Forbes Pack, who happily accepts him just as he is. What he never counted on was finding his mate in Pittsburgh or for his mate to be another species entirely—a cat!

Quincy Archer isn’t just any jaguar shifter. He is the heir to the leadership of his pride. Destined mates are nothing but legend to the nearly extinct and generally solitary jaguars, and Quincy certainly never expected to find one for himself, much less a male… or a wolf.

However, finding each other and coming to terms with their species is the least of their worries. Quincy is expected to select a proper female mate, father a cub, and take his place as heir to the pride. Except Quincy refuses, having no interest in women or leadership and knowing he isn’t right for it. But his father will stop at nothing—not even attempting to kill Miles—to get his way. Quincy and Miles must overcome many obstacles to stay together as the destined mates they’re meant to be.

FourStars

I don’t read many shifter books (only from a few select authors) this is one of those authors. Basically because she makes it feel real, that is important to me and because she makes it enjoyable. I adored Quincy and Miles and it was great to read their story. It was also great to revisit the characters from the previous books. This book had a little more mystery in it and to me that was played out very well. This had a wonderfully thought out plot with characters that I adored. There was also humor in this book and the author was able to pick the points to inject that humor that was perfect. You couldn’t help but laugh when the author talked about Dee, Dumb, and Dumber. Overall, this was a very enjoyable story and can’t wait to see what this author brings us next.

ThreeandHalfStars

So first of, I don’t recommend reading this book as a stand alone. There are 2 previous books in the Forbes Mates series and the characters from before will be mentioned a lot. Good thing I’ve been keeping up with the series.
Here we have wolf shifter Dr. Miles Grant and his jaguar mate, Quincy Archer. I liked these two together. They were sweet, accepting and they gave each other strength.  I liked the bond they formed with the previous couples of the series. However, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I did the second book. The romance in this book was there, but it was overpowered by politics and mystery which got annoying. I like mystery and all, but I want more romance. I just walked into this book expecting that. I got it, but not enough. The epilogue was cute, but not needed. Maybe not too far in the future unless this is the end of the series.
All in all, I’d still read a book 4.

Miles pulled the privacy curtain now, pushed the door all the way closed, and prayed no one came in as he approached the side of Quincy’s bed. Deep bruises marred his skin, making Miles’s blood boil. How could someone do this to their own child? He didn’t care who had actually carried it out. The order had been given—and he had no doubt who’d given it—and that was enough to make Miles want to punch something. He simply couldn’t understand it, and it was certainly not endearing him to his mate’s species.

He put a hand gently on Quincy’s shoulder, leaned in, and called to him softly.

After only two tries, Quincy opened his eyes. He blinked up at Miles, looking adorably confused for a moment. “What—? Where am I?” He blinked once more, then said, “Aww shit.” He went to move, but Miles kept a hand on him.

“Listen, we don’t have a lot of time. I’m in here now, so we won’t likely be disturbed for a few minutes, but I don’t know how long that’ll last for sure. Do you think you can shift?”

Quincy looked pensive for a moment, and Miles suspected he was checking with his cat. Quincy nodded. “Yeah, I think so. Why? And… is it safe here?”

Miles nodded. “If you can do it quickly. I think you’ve got some internal bleeding to go with the ribs, the gashes, and the legs. I can take you into surgery, but—”

Quincy made a face. “Yeah, no.” He frowned down at his legs. “What about those?”

Miles nodded. “It’s going to hurt, but I can take them off.”

Quincy considered it, then shook his head. “No, I don’t think my back paws will break them.” He took a breath and reached for the tie at the back of his neck. Miles hurried to help him, untying and peeling the gown down, then stepped back. Quincy looked up at him. “On the bed?”

“Unless you want to put weight on those broken legs.”

With a grimace Quincy nodded. “Right.” He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and in only a few seconds, Miles was looking at a beautiful solid black jaguar.

Miles stepped up and tilted his head. “May I touch you?”

Quincy dipped his head in something of a nod, and Miles gave a few short strokes of the fur at Quincy’s neck. Miles somehow hadn’t expected it to be so soft, but it was. Quincy’s tail twitched, and he blinked a few times, then raised his head. Miles took it as the indication that Quincy wanted to shift, so he stepped back and nodded. A moment later he was looking at the once-more-human- shaped Quincy.

“Welcome back. How do you feel?”

“Aside from exhausted, better. I need food, though.”

Miles nodded. “I don’t doubt it. Listen, are they going to come after you here if I keep you?”

“Keep me?”

Miles didn’t answer, just waited.

Quincy sighed and shook his head. “No. They’ve left their message for now.”

Miles raised an eyebrow. “Message?”

“I’ll tell you later. Suffice it to say, they won’t bother me for a while, at least.”

“Okay. Let me admit you—it’s going to look really weird if I don’t for a couple of days, anyway—and we’ll get you meat and rest.”

Quincy frowned again but nodded. “Yeah. That’s probably best. Gods, I’m exhausted.” He yawned.

“Lie back. Let me resettle the leg braces and see about that room.”

Quincy more flopped than lay back into place, wincing as he did. “Ouch. Note to self: takes more than a couple of shifts to heal broken ribs.”

Miles chuckled. “I’ll remember that.” He helped Quincy get resettled and readjusted the braces over both legs. It looked like the bones were a lot better, but the gashes were still open enough that the stitches didn’t look out of place yet. Miles covered them with the sheet, helped Quincy with the gown, then looked back up at his mate’s face. “I’m really glad to see you.”

Seeing Quincy blush—someone normally so serious and aloof—made Miles grin. Quincy narrowed his eyes, but the effect was wasted by a slight smile. “Yeah, well… so not how I planned to see you again.”

Miles grinned wider. “There are definitely better ways to meet up.” He chuckled when the red on Quincy’s cheeks darkened. “Let me check on your bed. Try to rest.” He leaned in and kissed Quincy’s forehead, smiling to himself at the stunned expression. “Back soon.”
