5, 3.5, and 3 Stars for Shadowing Mace by Cheyenne Meadows #MM #Shifter

1.5

Title: Shadowing Mace
Author Name & Publisher: Cheyenne Meadows (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: February 25, 2015 – 117 pgs

Synopsis

With his brother away at a conference, alpha wolf shifter Shadow finds himself paired with IT analyst Mace, the one man he can’t stand. Stuck with the partnership due to his pack leader’s order, Shadow can only count down the days until his life returns to normal. He’s a loner. Period. No matter how much his inner beast protests.

Mace isn’t thrilled either, but can’t resist the temptation to push all the surly alpha’s buttons, even as he fantasizes about what could be. Flirting with danger, he’s determined to make the best of the situation, if he can only get Shadow to give in to both their desires.

Unfortunately, a twisted revenge-seeker has other plans. A series of events rocks the entire pack, leaving innocent people hurt and fear running rampant. Both men are thrust into the chaos, working tirelessly to track down the culprit before someone winds up dead. The pressure of trying to stay a jump ahead, with absolutely no clues, pushes them to the brink. Add in a burning hunger for each other, and their world begins to crumble around them. With no other choice, they have to trust and depend on one another in order to have a chance at solving the mystery and saving lives.

So I have to say I loved the dialogue between these two shifter mates. They both were just so snarky I loved it!
So Mace has been assigned to work with Shadow who is Alpha while Mace is a Beta. These two men have never gotten along before so you knew it was just a matter of time before they both ignited.
Well someone is out to hurt pack members and it is up to Shadow and Mace to figure out who is behind everything happening and stop this person.
The steam in this book was off the charts hot! You also get action and angst with this book too.
I loved the way this author wrote this shifters and these characters!

All together I really loved this book!
I would recommend this book!

ThreeandHalfStars

Shadow is a slightly off putting, very stern character who really dislikes Mace, the less stern, but no less annoying IT guru.

The two of them have a slightly volatile start – Mace likes to push Shadow’s buttons and get a rise out of him, while Shadow would just rather get on his way.

The beginning of the story is more about animosity and trying to stave off their desire for each other, they work tirelessly while trying to figure out who is behind the attacks on fellow pack members.  But I did like the softer side of Shadow and how Mace was able to see that despite his outward demeanor, Shadow did need someone to look out for him too.

So, while this book was not all about relationships, love and hot sex (but don’t worry, there is some of that), it was mainly about finding someone who will look after you – make sure that you are taken care of.

The mystery in this story is somewhat unfinished for me.  While they figure it out, it seemed rushed.  The ending of the story is much sappier than I was expecting as well.  I think it would have flowed better if there had been less of an abrupt change from hating to creating a relationship.

ThreeStar

Not my favorite shifter story, but it’s not the worse. I like the pack structure, and I liked Mace and Shadow…sort of. There was a lot of stream in this book, lots of naughty bits, but I felt no connection towards the characters in the romance department. Maybe at the end, but by that time it seemed forced, thus too late to change my mind.
Shadow has to work with Mace, who he dislikes, but he has no choice in the matter. Mace is hot for Shadow, but he can see the guy doesn’t like him, which makes him wanna tease him more. I liked  Mace’s personality, but Shadow was too broody for me. Two characters can be “hot” together, but sometimes as the reader, I wish they fell for someone else.
Also, this was tagged as BDSM…but it’s not. Not really. There’s elements of it, but not enough to claim that this is a BDSM book.

Ford is starting a new internship which is were he meets Jarvis. Well Ford wants to find his mate so he contacts Fated Date Agency but at the same time he is attracted to Jarvis

I have to say honestly I was not a fan of Fords character or Jarvis.

This story kind of dragged for me through parts and I honestly did not feel like these two men fit together.

Ford came off as crabby and indecisive while Jarvis just felt like a huge player so they really did not make sense to me at all.

I did like the pretense of this story but felt really no connection between these two men. I have liked previous books in this series but unfortunately for some reason this one just did not grab me.
So I am sad to say this book was not for me…

So with this book you get Lieutenant Lucas who is in command of his unit which is mixed with humans and werewolves.
Noah comes to his unit a true alpha which causes Lucas to insert is power.
This book was just so good!! Between the feelings these two men were slowly building for each other during the war which could not have been easy, to the way these two men were so protective of one another.
There was steam with this book along with some angst and a lot of action. I thought the way this author wrote these characters and this story was really awesome!
The moment I picked up this book I could not put it down! Now I can not wait to read the rest of the books in this series. This book and the take on shifters being in the army was such a change from anything I have read in awhile and I really did love what this author did with this story.

So all together I 100% loved this book!
I would definitely recommend this book!

Okay I don’t know how many times I say it but I absolutely love it when one of the shifters knows from the start and gets all mine with his new mate. This book you get that and so much more!
I have honestly never read a book with a Lynx shifter and this book was so good.
You get Keith who is a Lynx shifter plus a veterinarian. He is also in line to be the next Alpha of his fathers tribe.
Then you get Jason who owns his own IT business who works from home. When he spots Keith through the window while he is moving in let me say from that point on it was on!
This book had me on the edge of my seat with all the bad people who were determined to break them up. There were also the very sweet moments.. You could definitely feel how much Keith loves Jason and vice versa. Then you find out something about Keith and you are just stunned because I did not see that coming! You also meet a lot of different characters too. You also meet Sasha Jason’s best friend I have to say at first I was unsure about him but by the end of the book I really liked his character.

All together I really loved this book!

I would definitely recommend this book!

This book was great! I loved the fun take on the vampire/shifter relationship. Plus, the fact that it was a Lynx shifter instead of the normal shifters was nice.
I loved the way Jason treated the shifted side of Keith, although I would’ve liked to see more of the interactions with the lynx/human dynamic.
There was some drama having to do with Keith’s father, not just because he was gay, but because of the fact that he wasn’t going to let his father do as he wished any longer, especially when it came to his mate.
Jason was sweet with his stutter and seeing him grow more confident in himself as the story progressed was a nice touch.
Overall a really great, sweet story.

Vampires and shifter oh my! I enjoyed this book. It was well written and I really enjoyed the character development. I loved Keith and Jason and felt an immediate connection with Jason.  I think I fell in love with Jason when he first began to stutter when he became nervous. It took me a little longer to warm up to Keith but after that I couldn’t wait to see were the author would take us with this story.

However, there did seem to be a lot of things missing from the story. There were times the story would just jump to something that was unrelated to what was going on. Overall an enjoyable read and can’t wait for the next installment.

 ThreeStar

This book was not what I expected. Not quite sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. For some reason, I thought Grant was going to be more Alpha than Keith, but it wasn’t so. Keith is the shifter and Grant is human, btw. Maybe I assumed that because even though Grant was human, Keith was the lynx shifter and for some reason in my mind, Keith would be the gentle one. lol I don’t know, just not what I was expecting.
This was actually a sweet romance, not fabulous, but a good enough read. Grant was a stuttering mess, but he was adorkable. Keith was charming and he really into Grant. Glad he wasn’t the kind of guy who’d abandon his mate just cause his father was all over his case and that Grant was human. There were plot holes here and there, but a good read for a rainy day.
I also like the cover and title. Cute title and cover for a cute story. 🙂

TWO 4 Stars for Fighting Instinct (L’Ange #2) by Mary Calmes #MM #Paranormal

1.5

Title: Fighting Instinct (L’Ange #2)
Author Name & Publisher: Mary Calmes (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: December 8, 2014 – 224 pgs

Synopsis

Only a privileged few know L’Ange’s head of security Arman de Soto is a shifter, and even fewer know he’s been systematically killing off a pack of werewolves. The reason for this vengeance is a secret Arman trusts with no one, quite the opposite of his obvious longtime pursuit of the château’s overseer, Linus Hobbes. Despite Arman’s reputation as a loner, the only thing he needs to complete his life is Linus. Predator and prey just don’t mix—but Arman won’t give him up.

Linus has lived alone for more than seven years, sheltered at L’Ange under an assumed name and hiding secrets of his own, including his terrifying attraction to the most dangerous man he’s ever met. Arman knows Linus should be afraid of the predator stalking him, but Linus is still drawn to him like a moth to a flame, no matter how much he tries to deny his instincts. It’s not until Linus’s past and Arman’s crusade exposes their secrets and opens L’Ange to attack that Arman realizes waiting any longer is a risk he just can’t take. So he’ll have to take his quest to the source of the threat in a gamble to protect L’Ange, Linus, and any future they might have together.

This is my second time reading this book and I have to say that it was better reading it the second time. I gave it 3.5 STARS when I first read Fighting Instinct back in December, but now I’m giving it a 4.

Why?
Cause I was being totally biased when I first read it. I was expecting Tucker and Armand to get together, but instead got Linus and Armand, which didn’t make sense because on the 1st book, it was heavily implied that Tucker was with Armand and maybe Linus would be joining the mix. I was really hoping for a threesome. LOL
Reading the story with fresh eyes made me like it more. What? A girl can change her mind! Haha. Despite my disappointment, I actually really liked Armand and Linus together. I wish there was more action and plot, thus the 4 STARS instead of 5, but it was a good read. Sweet, sappy, shifters…everything I can expect of a Mary Calmes novel.
Armand, the Hyena, is a mixture of sweet, macho and crazy. lol. He went around killing the bad guys who hurt Linus in the past and it was both sweet and crazy at the same time. I liked that even though Linus was a deer shifter, he had a stronger shifter form. The guy can take care of himself when needed.
Can’t wait for Jon’s story! I’ll be stalking this series.

To be honest it did take me awhile to get into this book. For some reason the first part of this book just did not grab me. But about half way through it got so good and everything started making more sense. Lets just say I was on the edge of my sit and could not put this book down after that point!

You get your shifter fix in this one definitely. There were so many different kinds and they all made up one pack which I loved!

Arman well I cant tell you what he is without spoiling the secret but I can say WOW!!! Then you have Linus a beautiful white stag.. So to see such completely different shifters was so different from what I am used to and I loved it!

The way they were together at first did annoy me a little bit, but after awhile when they admitted to each other their feelings and that they were mates they just fit so well together and my whole point of view changed.

There is a lot of violence in this one and killing which I can say honestly I am not sure how I feel about that. But it was to get back at the wolf pack for what they had done to Linus which was so horrible.

So all together there was a lot of action and big bad assed shifters lol. Which I loved!!!

I would definitely recommend this book!!!

This book had everything I love in a shifter paranormal romance and so much more!
So Jin is a Reah which is a highly valued being with the panther shifters. Their mates are Semel only so Jin does whatever he can to avoid the Semel because he is not ready to mate. He is so highly sought after that some are not above using force when necessary to take him as their mate. Well Jin is also the only Reah that is male usually only woman are Reah’s.
So Logan Church finds out about Jin and requests a meeting to see if he is his mate. Well the moment he lays on Jin he knows that Jin is his mate. Jin fights it for awhile unsure of Logan’s real feelings..
There is angst, action and so much steam in this book everything mixed together perfectly!
There are so many different characters you meet in this book. Something happens at the end that puts you on the edge of your seat worried. So I really do not want to give out any spoilers because this book is definitely one you should read for yourself. I love shifter books and the way the author built this world of panthers and she wrote these characters was amazing!

All together I really loved this book!
I would definitely recommend this book!

While I thought this book was a good addition to this series for some I did not like this one as much as the first one..
It went so slow for awhile I had a hard time making myself keep reading this. I am glad I did because it evidently picks up after awhile and I ended up really liking this book.
Jin is kidnapped and must get himself out of the situation and so many people are after him in this book my head was spinning trying to keep up. You get more of Jin and Logan which I loved and other characters.
You also get your angst, action and steam with this one too/

I really liked this book!
I think there was only one thing in this book that really drove me nuts and that was how long it took for one of these two MC’s to admit how they really feel.  It honestly just felt so drawn out to me..
But other then that I really loved everything else about this book.  You get Roman who was seriously hurt in a accident when he was sixteen so a lot of his face and body has burns scars.  So besides being self conscious about that he also had to deal with comments that were hurtful from other people.  I really loved his character for how strong he is and how he would not take no from Quade and pushed him to admit his feelings for Roman.
Now Quade who is a Jackal shifter seriously  frustrated me with the way he kept fighting how he felt and how he would not claim Roman for the longest time because of it.  I think besides that I really liked his character for how he was so protective of Roman from the start.
You get action and angst, also you do get steam too!
You meet some other characters in this book some you will like and some you will not..
All together I really liked this book!

Well I am sad to say this one was just not for me..
I honestly felt really no connection between all three of these characters and I am not really sure why..  I love shifter books for the mating bond and the connection they feel to each other but for some reason I just did not get that with Daniel, Phillip or Shannon.
Shannon is the sheriff that catches Phillip the mountain lion and Daniel the Jaguar. They all work together to protect Kachina Wolf statue that for some reason some spirits and other people want. So there was some mystery, action with this book also.  I am not really sure I liked the way they treated Phillip, he felt like more of a outsider to me with this ménage and that is one of the reasons I am so picky about ménages because I like to feel like they are all equal and I am not sure that I got that with this book..
To be honest this one just did not grab me at all unfortunately..

While I liked this book, I just did not love it!  Let me tell you why…
Tim was cute and sassy with a sarcastic mouth at first I really liked his charatcer… Then it became a constant thing through the whole book, then him calling  Nathaniel names all the time it got to the point that it was beyond annoying.  I think if it had not been through the whole book I would have 100% loved this book.  But please don’t get me wrong I love a sassy, sarcastic character, just in small doses..
Nathaniel character was awesome for everything he put up with from Tim.  He was so kind and caring I honestly felt bad for him having to put up with everything that came of Tim’s mouth.  He is the Alpha/sheriff of Wolf’s Paw the town they live in.  When he first laid eyes on Tim he knew right away that he was his mate.  Unfortunately it took Tim the almost the whole book to figure that out and he is a shifter too.  That was a little irritating especially after what happened between Tim and someone else at about 50% I was not a huge fan of that at all.

I did like most of this book.. Those parts did knock it down for me but otherwise it was a really good book.  You see them grow as a couple and you also get your bad guy.

So all together I really liked this book, I just did not love some parts of this book.
