FourandHalfStars

Third Mate is the third in the River Wolf Pack series. Unlike the first two books, which focused on one relationship per book, Third Mate follows three relationships, with multiple points of view.
I’ve been a fan of Rebecca’s since reading First Omega, and I’ve absolutely loved the entire series. Third Mate was no exception. Tensions in the River Wolf Pack have been building since book one, and it was interesting to see how that storyline was dealt with, as well as what it meant for Josiah, River, and their daughters. Continuing from book two was the relationship between Jax and David, which somehow managed to get even more complicated before getting better. But I absolutely loved seeing that play out and I was so happy that they were able to find peace and happiness, even if it wasn’t the way they first thought it would be.
The new love story in book three was that of Sam and Leo. I was so pleased to see Sam finally find a place in the pack, especially with someone like Leo. Still, there was a large part of me that wanted Foster to be part of the mix, but I feel like there’s enough grey area that it could be revisited. And if not, then I guess the reader can determine whether Foster found his true mate or if he decided to mate with Leo and Sam.
On top of an excellent plot, the sex scenes were hot as always. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying addition to the River Wolf Pack series.

Excerpt

In Second Alpha, Sam was taken into River Wolf Pack after losing his pack. He roamed the woods for months with his brother until his brother was killed by a trap. In Third Mate, Sam has become enamored with grouchy, sexy alpha, Leo. He has a feeling, though, that Leo is in love with Foster, Sam’s best friend. Shy and emotionally vulnerable, Sam tries to keep to himself, but often Foster won’t let him.

Excerpt from Third Mate:

“What’s cooking?” Foster asked. “It smells really good.”

“Lasagna and garlic bread,” Leo answered. “Also salad.”

“I didn’t think you could cook.”

Sam couldn’t help glancing up at that, and he found the alpha looking sheepish.

“Brooks cooked for me.”

“Of course, I did.” Brooks came in from the kitchen, apron still around his waist. “And I’m staying to eat, too.”

Foster grinned at Brooks. “I’m glad you’re here. Do you know if the library has a book on the health of omega shifters?”

Sam had the urge to kick Foster as Leo turned green eyes on Sam.

“Something wrong with your health?” At Leo’s intense scrutiny, Sam’s heart sped up to the point his vision whited out for a moment, and the next thing he knew, strong arms came around him, lowering him onto soft cushions. When Sam’s eyes fluttered open, he almost stopped breathing to find Leo’s face close to his own. “Are you okay?” Leo asked.

Foster’s worried face appeared over Leo’s shoulder. “He hasn’t been eating right.” Foster looked at Brooks. “Do you have a book on it?”

“I don’t think so,” Brooks said. “You’ve seen everything I have on the subject of shifters of any kind. I’ll add it to the list of books I want to get in the city.”

“You’re going to the city?” Leo asked. Sam had heard that after the kidnapping Brooks had said he’d never go back there.

“No. Xavier will go. Or Malcolm.” Brooks looked down at Sam. “I’ll get you some water.” Sam tried to struggle to a sitting position, but Leo’s big hand on his shoulder stopped him.

“Rest a minute. How long have you been having dizzy spells?”

There was no way Sam was going to tell the alpha he’d collapsed out of sheer excitement just because Leo had looked at him a certain way. “I’ve only had a few recently.”

“Do I have to come over and make you eat every day?” Leo asked, and Sam had a sudden vision of the alpha force-feeding him something that wasn’t food. He swallowed audibly, and caught Foster’s knowing smile over Leo’s shoulder.

“I think he’d like that,” Foster said. Fuck, Sam was going to beat Foster’s ass when they got home. He settled for a scowl for now. It didn’t seem to worry Foster too much. Brooks came back with the water, and Leo helped Sam sit up before moving away.

Foster took his place on the couch. “Feeling better?”

Sam nodded. “I just need to eat, I guess.”

“Well, it’s ready, so let’s dig in,” Brooks said, leading the way into the dining room.

It wasn’t difficult for Sam to eat the entire portion given him; the food was delicious. He tried to resist, though, when Foster pushed seconds onto his plate.

“Come on. Be a good boy and eat it all up.” Foster grinned at Sam, and Sam saw Leo watching him. How could Foster be so oblivious to the alpha’s interest? Sam took a bite of lasagna to appease his friend, but as soon as Foster began talking to Brooks, Sam put his fork down and drank his water instead. That is, until Leo growled. With a sigh, Sam took another bite of lasagna.

“How come you asked us to dinner?” Foster asked Leo. “Sick of the food in the dining hall?”

Leo looked uncomfortable. “Not at all. I just thought…” He glanced at Brooks. “Brooks could use some practice in the kitchen.”

“Oh, well, thanks for inviting us.” Foster shoved a large forkful of salad into his mouth and chewed, missing the eye roll Brooks gave Leo. So Leo had enlisted his friend’s help in impressing Foster. Figured. Sam was just the necessary tag-along.

“Will you guys be staying in the guest bungalow permanently?” Brooks asked Foster and Sam.

“I think River said he was going to have something a little smaller built for us, unless we want our own places,” Foster said. “I think we’ll stay together, though.”

“Oh?” Brooks looked with interest between Foster and Sam. “It’s like that, is it?”

“Like what?”

“He thinks we’re fucking,” Sam said, and Leo dropped his fork onto his plate with a clatter.

Foster laughed. “Oh.” He shrugged.

Sam wondered at the fact he didn’t deny it. Leo looked apoplectic, and Brooks seemed to be trying to hide a smile.

“Dessert anyone?” Brooks asked.

Sam moaned at the very thought of more food. He leaned back in his chair and held his stomach. “I’m stuffed.”

“What did you make?” Foster asked.

“Strawberry shortcake.”

“I definitely want some.” Foster looked at Sam. “We can share.”

Sam had every intention of refusing a bite, but when Foster held out the forkful of fluffy cake, dripping with red strawberry juice and whipped cream, he found himself opening his mouth to take it in, eyes fluttering shut as his lips closed around the fork. When he felt the fork slide from his mouth, he opened his eyes to see three pairs staring at him. “What?” Sam licked whipped cream from his lips.

Leo abruptly stood and mumbled something about having to use the bathroom.

This was a good, quick read. The name really is good for this book considering these three men have a big choice to make.

Brandt and Kaden have put off persuing a relationship with one another for a very long time. They both thought that their careers was more important even though they hurt not being together. In that time apart Kaden hired Mike to work in the vet offices as his assistant and knows that Mike has a crush on him and the feeling is mutual but he has never acted on it because of Brandt. These tree men finally come together and have a choice to make. Kaden can walk away from one or both men or the three of them can try and make a go of it together as a threesome.

I think this was a good read but there could have been so much more to it. For instance it left everything that was happening or did happen with Amos up in the air. EM Woods never elaborated on what the situation was with this man and how he was involved with Brandt or Mike either one and EM never elaborated on what happened with Amos after the the near fight at Sissy’s house. So it is kind of there in the air. I also wish that EM Woods would have elaborated more on who these three men decided to come together and what led to the decision. It was a good story but I feel like it could have been a great story with more details.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this book. I was expecting it to be one thing and it turned out to be another. But regardless of what I thought it would be about, the book itself turned out to be so much better.

Curtis in my opinion is the one that holds the triad together. He is the one that caused their bond and I think it is him that keeps them all together. He is the glue to their triad and I believe that he is in love with both Ander’s and Luc. Even though he has not and will most likely never tell them. I also believe that Curtis is so strong. I believe that most others would have given in under the pressure of rules, but not Curtis. He takes being able to do magic in stride and takes every opportunity he can to learn as much as he possibly can but at the same time he believes that magic should be used only for good.

Luc is the level headed one of the bunch in my opinion. He is the one that talks since into the othe two in the triad and keeps them out of trouble. Luc acts as though he is completely unaffected by the other two but again I believe he is in love with both men but will never admit or tell them. Luc is the vampire in their group but he respects Curtis and Curtis’s want to only do good so Luc does not do any unnecessary killing.

Ander’s is the Demon in their group but I think that Ander is more about having a good time then using his powers for evil. He too is in love with both the men in his group but he would definitely never admit it because he lives sex to much with whoever he can get it from to risk losing that. But Ander would do whatever it took to keep these two men safe and protected.

The three of these men have unusual relationship but it works for them.

This was an extremely great read and I truly enjoyed it. I hope others do too.

Tosha

ThreeStar

It was tricky rating this so I stuck with 3 stars cause while I liked the characters, I wish there was…more.
We have a great trio. Vampire Luc, Lust Demon Anders and Curtis, the witch. Luc was cool and a bit reserved, but hanging out with the other two is certainly making him be more open. Anders is that sarcastic guy that you end up adoring. Curtis was cute and literally the glue that held all three of them together.
When I started reading, I was a bit thrown off cause they were already a Triad. So I browsed and found out there’s a short story with them called Three. I read it then came to this one. I really liked the trio. Sadly, they weren’t really a threesome. Yeah, they formed a Triad so they’d have a coven for protection, but it wasn’t a true menage. I was so looking forward to that and was bummed when I didn’t get it. If there’s another book coming, I really want these three to be involved romantically and not just “friends with benefits”. I felt sort of detached to the story because of that.

FiveStars

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, I am usually not into polyamorous relationships but this one just worked. Each of the five men had something different to bring to the table in the relationship and without one of them, it wouldn’t have worked. Noah, kicked out by his dad when he came out as a teen comes back for his dad’s funeral. Noah’s dad leaves him his house and boat which shocks him. On the way to the house Noah comes across Ian, Ty, Gabriel and Joshua. Ian is outspoken and getting over his jerk of an ex. Ty is running his aunts cleaning business, Gabriel was abused and left for dead and Joshua is fresh out of jail for a crime he didn’t commit. These five men are so different but work so well together and when they all come together it is beautiful. You can feel the love each of them has for each other and it was simply a beautiful story.

Angie

FiveStars

ometimes it takes more then one person to make a relationship whole. In this case it takes five.

Five different men come together that are total opposites with different pasts.

Noah is the long lost son who was kicked out by his father when he was a teenager for being gay. He returned home for his funeral and expected to leave again right away. But the best laid plans do not always happen that way and sometimes when those plans don’t turn out the way they are planned, but that is sometimes for the best. Noah is the steady one in the relationship. He is able to neutralize a disaster before it happens or he is able to calm a situation.

Ian is a mother hen. He is able to take care of those around him and he is able to make those around him feel the love and compassion he has in him. They feel safe with love because of him.

Joshua is the steady one. He is there to stand up for those he believes in and he helps them fight their demons and realize their worth. Even though he has a hard time doing it for himself.

Ty is the one who brings out the laughter and lightheartedness for those around him. He makes those around him feel joy and see things in life in a different way.

Gabriel is the one that brings out the beauty of things for others. He can take what most would think is trash and turn it into a thing of beauty.

These five men together create happiness, love, dependability, family, beauty, and so much more. They have their ups and downs but the five of them have each other no matter what.

This is an amazing story about how five people who were strangers and came together to make a family. It is a beautiful story and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Tosha

FiveStars

I have to admit that I expected a steamy, sexy read, but I was completely unprepared for (and pleasantly surprised by) the depth of emotion or the quality of writing in this story.

Each of the five men in this story is beautifully developed. While this felt like Noah’s story at the start, it soon belonged to all five men. All of the characters bring secrets and heartbreak to a relationship that offers acceptance, healing and comfort. I loved the unique stories and histories of all of these men and I really admire the way the author made five such different men so compatible and ultimately made each of the five men essential to the relationship.

I loved the men’s tiny island home and the characters on the island. The OTT storyline with Ian’s ex-boyfriend wasn’t really necessary, but it didn’t detract too much from the rest of the story. Starting with a funeral for a man that several of the characters knew in very different ways was both a brilliant hook and a believable spark for the connection between the men.

There are few authors who manage to write polyamorous relationships without either fetishising the connections between the characters or painting a very negative picture of polyamory for readers. Here, Max McGowan manages a believable and moving relationship between five characters. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

ThreeandHalfStars

I went into this book with completely different expectations than I should have. For starters, it’s a short story or novella, rather than a novel, so I was a bit surprised when I saw that all in all, it was only thirty seven pages including front and back matter. That’s fine, though. I like novellas as much as the next person!

I’m a huge fan of BDSM books. Next to historical fiction, it’s my favourite. Unfortunately, this one fell a bit short. The good: The relationship between Brandon and Sean is great. It was incredibly authentic, and you can really see the exchange of power, with Sean providing a reassuring confidence that Brandon seems to lack. Also, the menage element was really a great addition. I liked the dynamic between the three in bed. The backdrop was also interesting – an author convention. I would have loved to have seen more of the con, but given that this was an erotic short story, I get why we weren’t given more than a glimpse.
The not-so-good: The writing, to me, fell a bit flat. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad writing by any means. But there were certain words and phrases that really pulled me out of the story. For instance, at one point while having sex, there’s this line “Keeping his hips at the same angle, he punched the little button over and over like he was playing Space Invaders with his cock.” Analogies can be really good, but this one didn’t quite hit the mark. I also didn’t really like JUST how tidy the ending was. Coincidences in a story aren’t exactly my cup of tea. Again, the writing wasn’t bad, and if you’re looking for a steamy, short piece to enjoy in a sitting, then this is one you’ll probably enjoy. For me, it just fell a bit short.
Alyson
FourStars
This was a very interesting short story. It had humor, it had the Dom/sub element, it has insecurities, it had confidence, it had m/m/m action, and it had unconditional love.

For a short story it had some very HOT scenes involving Sean (the Dom in the relationship), Brandon (the sub in the relationship), and a third they added for the night Robin (aka Nikki).

Sean knows that Brandon is not comfortable in situations involving people. But as his Dom he also knows that Brandon wants more then to be just an author, he wants to be able to interact with his fans but he is afraid.

So being Brandon’s Dom he knows he has to push him out of his protective shell and be there to catch him if he falls. He also knows that Brandon will work himself into a state before the convention if he does not do something to take his mind off of it. That is where Robin comes into play. And boy does he ever.

Brandon is the type of person in my opinion that does not have confidence in his own iminnee strength but wants to do what is necessary to make Sean proud of him so he is willing to put himself in a situation that he does not feel completely safe in. He is willing to push his own boundaries to make his Dom happy and to achieve his own dreams.

I really enjoyed this read but I wish that it would have more of an ending. It has a great story line but it came to an abrupt end. Other then that I think that is was a very enjoyable read.

This book is different from most books I would normally read. For starters I would consider it to be historical because it was started in the 50’s and led up to the late 70’s. I have not ever been one to really want to read books from those time periods. Back in those days being gay was something to not be proud of. Not a lot of people was open about it and it was definitely unheard of to be in a threesome relationship.

This book was different from others that I read because it jumped from the past to the present throughout the whole book. But I found that I really enjoyed that.

The three characters Chad, Roy, and Tucker were all so different from one another but so good for each other. They brought forth the relationship things that the others didn’t and in their own ways they gave each other strength to overcome their hard pasts. Because do not think that anyone one of them had an easy past because they all three had some extremely hard times. They were each different in what they went through but I think that what they went through helped them all to end up with a better future together.

This book was funny, sad, heartbreaking, refreshing, and full of so much love. I really enjoyed this read and hope others do also.

Description:

What do you do when nobody wants you…..?

Harry was tired of being used, abused and taken for granted by men. Surely he deserved better than to be cast out like last night’s leftovers?
All his life he’d been treated like that. When he’d come out to his parents about being gay, they’d reacted by throwing him out, not wanting to acknowledge a homosexual son. They even went so far as to pay him a monthly allowance to keep him out of their lives.
What was wrong with him? Why didn’t anyone want him?
One night at the club after being dumped by his boyfriend, he thought he might find the answer in the bottom of his wine glass, or at the very least, drown his sorrows in it.

They say when one door closes another opens or something like that…….

Enter Louis; tall, handsome, confident and sexy. Louis makes Harry feel like he’s never felt before. He also makes him want to break all his own rules, deciding a one night stand with this stunning man is a good way to get over a broken heart or distract him from it at least.
The attraction between them is instant, their passion intense and Harry realises every sexual encounter he’s ever had is insignificant in comparison to how Louis makes him feel.
Louis is older, wiser, so much more experienced than Harry. He also has a wild past, a past Harry can only imagine.
The emotions he feels around Louis both give him strength and bring out his insecurities. He can’t think around him, so powerful is the hold this man has over him.
Maybe he should listen to the advice of his best friend Nora and stop over thinking things. Advice that sounds great in theory, but….

That might have worked until Harry discovers Louis is keeping secrets from him; secrets that will drive them apart if Louis can’t open up to him.
When the truth finally comes out, Harry is left reeling. He’s also left with an important decision. Cut Louis from his life and have his heart broken or stay with him and help him face all that troubles him, knowing that in the end, everything that matters to him may be lost.

WARNING:::::::::: do not read if you do not like a book that will have you emtionally invested in it. This definitely one of those books.

I found myself in such an emotional state reading this book. And it was not just one emotion either it was several different ones. I found myself laughing at Nora and Harry and their bickering back and forth. I wanted to strangle Louis for being so dang hard headed. I cried for both Louis and Harry for the medical and emotional turmoil they was going through. And I found that feared that Harry was going to lose Louis on a few different occasions.

This book completely engrossed me and wrapped itself around me until I felt like I was part of this book.

Louis and Harry both made fall in love with them. Their characters was just spit in for this book and they made each other while on so many different levels.

This is definitely a book that I recommend others to read and dare them to say that it did not affect them. J.A. Melville did a superb job and should definitely be proud of this book.

Tosha

This was quite the story.  Not only was it emotional, I became engrossed in the mystery that was Louis.  While I will admit that I thought the story began quite slowly, I stuck with it and am so glad that I did.

At first, I was very wary of Louis.  He seemed so flighty – almost like he was looking to just hook up with Harry rather than pursue something real.  Because he was so mysterious about his health, job and where he was jetting off to at random times, I began to really dislike Louis.

Harry was just an all around sweet guy.  I really enjoyed his life and reading about his friend, Nora.  She was a great secondary character and I loved her business!  Harry was almost too forgiving, in my opinion.  He was understanding but also was able to learn to stand up for himself.

This book was a great read that was emotionally charged.  I had a few issues with little things in the story, but not so much that it detracted from my enjoyment.
