THREE 5 Star Review for Five-Sided Heart by Max McGowan #MM #Romance

CoverTitle: Five-Sided Heart
Author Name & Publisher: Max MacGowan (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: May 16, 2016 – 230 pgs

Synopsis

Noah Trevelyan has lost his moorings. Disowned over his sexuality as a teenager, he hasn’t been back to his home on the Outer Banks since his fisherman father kicked him out. But when he returns for the Old Man’s funeral, he discovers his father left him the house and boat in his will. Noah must choose whether to stay or go, but he won’t be alone. There’s Ian, working to overcome the emotional scars left by a domineering ex-boyfriend, and Ty, a cheerful housekeeper who’s struggling to take care of his Alzheimer’s-stricken aunt. There’s Joshua too, running from the destruction of his old life, and Gabriel, who was once beaten and left for dead, and doesn’t know how to survive on his own.

Will they find in each other the strength and courage to keep living—and learn, together, how to love again? A polyamorous relationship is the last thing any of them expected to find in the Outer Banks, but it might be what they need most, and it might even be their redemption—if they can keep their group from breaking apart under the pressure.

FiveStars

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, I am usually not into polyamorous relationships but this one just worked. Each of the five men had something different to bring to the table in the relationship and without one of them, it wouldn’t have worked. Noah, kicked out by his dad when he came out as a teen comes back for his dad’s funeral. Noah’s dad leaves him his house and boat which shocks him. On the way to the house Noah comes across Ian, Ty, Gabriel and Joshua. Ian is outspoken and getting over his jerk of an ex. Ty is running his aunts cleaning business, Gabriel was abused and left for dead and Joshua is fresh out of jail for a crime he didn’t commit. These five men are so different but work so well together and when they all come together it is beautiful. You can feel the love each of them has for each other and it was simply a beautiful story.

Angie

FiveStars

ometimes it takes more then one person to make a relationship whole. In this case it takes five.

Five different men come together that are total opposites with different pasts.

Noah is the long lost son who was kicked out by his father when he was a teenager for being gay. He returned home for his funeral and expected to leave again right away. But the best laid plans do not always happen that way and sometimes when those plans don’t turn out the way they are planned, but that is sometimes for the best. Noah is the steady one in the relationship. He is able to neutralize a disaster before it happens or he is able to calm a situation.

Ian is a mother hen. He is able to take care of those around him and he is able to make those around him feel the love and compassion he has in him. They feel safe with love because of him.

Joshua is the steady one. He is there to stand up for those he believes in and he helps them fight their demons and realize their worth. Even though he has a hard time doing it for himself.

Ty is the one who brings out the laughter and lightheartedness for those around him. He makes those around him feel joy and see things in life in a different way.

Gabriel is the one that brings out the beauty of things for others. He can take what most would think is trash and turn it into a thing of beauty.

These five men together create happiness, love, dependability, family, beauty, and so much more. They have their ups and downs but the five of them have each other no matter what.

This is an amazing story about how five people who were strangers and came together to make a family. It is a beautiful story and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Tosha

FiveStars

I have to admit that I expected a steamy, sexy read, but I was completely unprepared for (and pleasantly surprised by) the depth of emotion or the quality of writing in this story.

Each of the five men in this story is beautifully developed. While this felt like Noah’s story at the start, it soon belonged to all five men. All of the characters bring secrets and heartbreak to a relationship that offers acceptance, healing and comfort. I loved the unique stories and histories of all of these men and I really admire the way the author made five such different men so compatible and ultimately made each of the five men essential to the relationship.

I loved the men’s tiny island home and the characters on the island. The OTT storyline with Ian’s ex-boyfriend wasn’t really necessary, but it didn’t detract too much from the rest of the story. Starting with a funeral for a man that several of the characters knew in very different ways was both a brilliant hook and a believable spark for the connection between the men.

There are few authors who manage to write polyamorous relationships without either fetishising the connections between the characters or painting a very negative picture of polyamory for readers. Here, Max McGowan manages a believable and moving relationship between five characters. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Two is good but three is best or at least in this case. This book picks up a couple years after book 1. Faolan has taken a turn for the worst and even though him and Gar are now married and happy, he has basically given up on finding a cure for the poison that is coursing through his body and just wants to live out what little time he has left.

Mace will not except this and goes and looks for the one person who may be able to help her find a cure, Alec. But with Alec comes more trouble and one of those TROUBLES include a bounty hunter and head of the guild Byron. The trouble with Byron includes his past with Alec. They were lovers until Alec ran. Finding one another again is where the problems started to come and come in full force.

These people (Mace, Alec, and Byron) are so completely opposite of one another. Mace is part of the Pirates ship that Faolan is captain of. Alec is a scientist. And Byron is a bounty hunter. Can these three with different past all come together or are the three of them just two different?

I loved book 1 and I can say with all honesty that I Loved book 2 also. There is so much adventure, mystery, suspense, anguish, lost love, new love, lust, and heartache all within this book. There is not a dull moment in this book. Your are literally on the edge of your seat while reading what is going to happen next. Wondering who is the good guys and who is the bad. Wondering if they will be able to find the cure they are working so hard to find in time. And also wondering what is really going on that someone would want to kill them all. It’s is almost as if every page you turn in this book something new is happening but it is not so overwhelming that you lose sight of what is going on in the book. That is hard to accomplish with so many different things happening and seeming to happen all at once. That is what makes Christine d’Abo an amazing author and this such an incredible book.

No Remedy is a sexy and suspense-filled space adventure.

This book continues the story from the first book while introducing us to great new characters. Alec, Byron, and Mace make a great triad. Their bedroom power dynamic play adds an interesting element both in terms of their relationship and the steamy sex scenes. As with the first book, the characters are well-developed and intriguing.

I have one complaint about this book. In the first book, there is a plot device that throws Gar and Faolan abruptly into the start of their sexual relationship. I found the situation believable, and it flowed well with the story. In this book something similar was done to bring the three together the first time. To me, instead of flowing with the story it seemed somewhat forced. It didn’t feel like it really fit with the story.

I enjoyed this book but it didn’t thrill me the way the first book did. I still found it very engaging, and I’m looking forward to the next book.

I don’t recommend this as a stand-alone book. But I do highly recommend this series to anyone looking for an erotic, kinky, and romantic Sci-Fi.

Trigger warning: Multiple sexual scenes with BDSM.

It took a little bit for me to get into this book but once I got into it, I didn’t want to put it down. Then, when I was done reading it I really wanted to read the second book ASAP!!! Jonas has had some rough years in his past, he is trying to put it all past him and thought he had until Cole showed up on his doorstep. Cole was in the military, just found out his sister is dead and wants to know as much as he can about it from the one person that knew her, Jonas. Mace is an ex-cop with a past of his own, now he seeks justice for innocent lives lost. These three men have so many things eating them alive and they are all drawn to each other. Misinformation makes Mace think horrible things about Jonas even when his gut is telling him it can’t be true. These three are so different from each other but they work so well together and in the end they have such chemistry and are all so hot together you can just feel the heat coming off the pages. I can’t put into words how much I enjoyed this book but I am super excited to read Salvation next!

Ah, I just love Sloane Kennedy’s work. Whenever I see that this author has a new book coming out, I’m there.
Absolution begins a new series. The Protectors. Here we have a threesome with: Jonas, an ex rent boy turned artist. Mace, an ex cop turned avenger. And then there’s Cole, ex n navy seal who wants to know what happened to his sister. these three are brought together by fate and I loved reading about them. They each had what the other needed.
My only negative was that they needed more time to fall for each other. Everything happened too quickly for me to be too convinced that all three are in love. Maybe I’m just being picky. Haha. Still, I liked the story so there. Can’t wait to read Book 2.

This is a book that I would be scribe to be about lost love, second chances, new beginnings, and new perspective.

Roan has a major chip on his shoulder about being Ven and the fact that he hates his magic does not help either. I think that if he and Jace would not have been split up at an early age when Roan was kidnapped by the government and made into a weapon then he would have embraced who was sooner and accepted that yes he may be somewhat different but it did not make him a monster not did it hinder him as a person.

Once he was reconnected with Jace the old Roan started to slowly come back but with reconnecting with Jace after his escape from the military both Jace and Roan was given a new beginning along with the very much added love of Cayra.

I believe that all three of these people was missing something in their lives and even if just two of them was together it was not complete. The three of them together made each other whole. They completed what holes was left in their relationship by coming together and loving each one equally.

But the three do not get their happily ever after without fighting for it. Even still they may lose one or all for standing up for their clan but if they do not stand and fight, they will never have their freedom and they will not all be together since the government is willing to do whatever it takes to get their machine (Roan) back. So it is a fight to live, to love, and have freedom.

This book was so much more interesting the. I thought it would be from the description and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I hope many more will also.

This was an interesting paranormal dystopian menage story. I really liked all three characters because they were all so different from each other and thought about and approached each situation in a bit of a different way.
While I would call this a menage story, it sort of wasn’t at the same time. We get to see the rekindling of the two men’s relationship while one is married and we get to see little bits and pieces of the blossom of a new female/male relationship. However, I felt like we didn’t really get to see that relationship grow the way I thought it should have for the way everyone came together so easily.
So while I thought the writing was quite good and the story was excellent, I really felt like the relationships, both new and old, were just too easy to come together in the end.
However, that being said, I do like drama and angst in my stories so this could totally be a personal thing.

ThreeandHalfStars

I went into this book with completely different expectations than I should have. For starters, it’s a short story or novella, rather than a novel, so I was a bit surprised when I saw that all in all, it was only thirty seven pages including front and back matter. That’s fine, though. I like novellas as much as the next person!

I’m a huge fan of BDSM books. Next to historical fiction, it’s my favourite. Unfortunately, this one fell a bit short. The good: The relationship between Brandon and Sean is great. It was incredibly authentic, and you can really see the exchange of power, with Sean providing a reassuring confidence that Brandon seems to lack. Also, the menage element was really a great addition. I liked the dynamic between the three in bed. The backdrop was also interesting – an author convention. I would have loved to have seen more of the con, but given that this was an erotic short story, I get why we weren’t given more than a glimpse.
The not-so-good: The writing, to me, fell a bit flat. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad writing by any means. But there were certain words and phrases that really pulled me out of the story. For instance, at one point while having sex, there’s this line “Keeping his hips at the same angle, he punched the little button over and over like he was playing Space Invaders with his cock.” Analogies can be really good, but this one didn’t quite hit the mark. I also didn’t really like JUST how tidy the ending was. Coincidences in a story aren’t exactly my cup of tea. Again, the writing wasn’t bad, and if you’re looking for a steamy, short piece to enjoy in a sitting, then this is one you’ll probably enjoy. For me, it just fell a bit short.
Alyson
FourStars
This was a very interesting short story. It had humor, it had the Dom/sub element, it has insecurities, it had confidence, it had m/m/m action, and it had unconditional love.

For a short story it had some very HOT scenes involving Sean (the Dom in the relationship), Brandon (the sub in the relationship), and a third they added for the night Robin (aka Nikki).

Sean knows that Brandon is not comfortable in situations involving people. But as his Dom he also knows that Brandon wants more then to be just an author, he wants to be able to interact with his fans but he is afraid.

So being Brandon’s Dom he knows he has to push him out of his protective shell and be there to catch him if he falls. He also knows that Brandon will work himself into a state before the convention if he does not do something to take his mind off of it. That is where Robin comes into play. And boy does he ever.

Brandon is the type of person in my opinion that does not have confidence in his own iminnee strength but wants to do what is necessary to make Sean proud of him so he is willing to put himself in a situation that he does not feel completely safe in. He is willing to push his own boundaries to make his Dom happy and to achieve his own dreams.

I really enjoyed this read but I wish that it would have more of an ending. It has a great story line but it came to an abrupt end. Other then that I think that is was a very enjoyable read.

Author Name & Publisher: Devon Rhodes (Pride Publishing)
Publication Date & Length: May 17, 2016 – 101 pgs

Synopsis

Normally, finding the hot neighbor in bed with your boyfriend would be the end—not the beginning—of a wonderful relationship.

Marty can’t catch a break. Unable to confess to his neighbor Kevin that it’s Kevin he’s interested in, he ends up using advice to make a move on Jason instead. He moves too slowly, though, and Kevin and Jason end up dating each other, leaving Marty out in the cold.

Everything changes the morning Jason wakes up to find Marty in bed with him and Kevin. Jason wonders whether he’s made a big mistake in committing to Kevin. Marty’s mortified—he’s wanted Jason from afar for ages, but never had the courage to act on it. And Kevin is plotting something naughty that will give all three men what they’ve wanted all along.

FiveStars

This turned out to be an extremely interesting book that could have turned out so bad if it had not been the three guys that it was actually about.

Marty is not the type of guy in my opinion that is really comfortable in his own skin. He can handle the hook ups and such but it is what happens afterwards that makes him withdrawal into himself. He is not one to be able to carry on a conversation with others because I believe that he over thinks things and he projects his over thinking into being extremely awkward which then leads to dead end relationships with just about any one so he sticks to himself.

Kevin is the exact opposite of Marty. He turns everything into an opportunity of meeting new people and putting himself out there. He is the walking party and he decides to take Marty under his wing and drawl him out of his shell so he can get up the courage to ask out the mystery guy that Marty likes. Which in some crazy way he does but Kevin is just not to perceptive because Marty has a crush on him as well as the hot accountant that works next door to where Marty works, Jason.

Marty never gets up the courage and ends up losing both Kevin and Jason and the kicker is about losing them, he loses them to each other.

I love how Devon Rhodes took a relationship between these three men that seemed virtually impossible and was able to make them all into something more.

I started this post out by saying that this could have turned out so bad if it was not for the characters that it was about. Well to elaborate on that, I meant that these three men did not start out mutually deciding to start a relationship between the three of them. It started out as friendship and Kevin knew that they all had at least an attraction between the three of them but he decided it needed to be taken a step further. This could have turned into an epic failure and they could have lost each other.

Devon made these characters so that completed each other perfectly and made it so that each of them was the missing piece to the puzzle that completed itself once they all came together. It is easy to write book about threesomes but to make these characters so perfect for one another is a true gift because each of these characters have such different personalities. I do not see it being easy to bring these three different personalities together to make each one of them whole but Devon accomplished it and added bits and pieces of humor along the way. Was a great read and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Review

FiveStarsI am just going to be completely honest here and say that at first for maybe the first chapter or two I did not think I was going to truly like this book. But I pushed ahead and by the time I got to the third chapter I was hooked and completely engrossed in this book.

This is a book that revolves around a man that thinks he is straight and is a reporter (Mac), a man who is out in the open gay and proud of it and a premier ballet dancer (Trelain), and a man that is a billionaire and possibly a thief (Daniel). These are three completely different men and somehow or another they just complete one another. They are all three the most unlikely pair but once they are all together it is as if the pieces to the puzzle finally click into place to make it a complete puzzle.

But among these the men there is also a huge mystery that Mac is trying to unravel but at the same time trying to decide if unraveling this mystery is worth maybe possibly losing the two men he has fallen in love with. Daniel is also in the dead center of this mystery because if Mac’s theory is correct then one of the men he has fallen for is a theif. Then their is Trelain, well he is just an innocent bystander all the way around and has no clue what either of the two men he is in love with is up.

This book was beautifully written. Tara Lain made this trio into such a beautiful love story. I am so glad that I kept reading it because this was an amazing story and I would have completely missed out if I had not finished reading it and gave up after the first couple of chapters. And to elaborate, the first couple of chapters was not bad it was basically background layout to what was to come. I just could not see the full picture at the time.
