This was another wonderful story about Will and Patrick and another great from the duo of Blake and Griffiths. This story had humor and love in it and it was great to finally see the characters admit they were falling in love. I was glad I was reading this book at home because sometimes I would just burst out laughing. This duo just has way of injecting humor at the exact right points and I can’t wait to read the final installment. I am so glad that they are getting their HEA.

Excerpt

The next morning, Will’s romantic musings feel like the product of overwrought exhaustion when Patrick wakes up cranky as a cat dunked in water.

“Turn off the alarm,” he snarls. “Make it stop.” Then, sitting up and glaring at Will like he’s going to kill him with the power of his mind, he demands, “Did you test yet? Did you eat? What’s your BG number?”

Will’s not even out of bed. Only fifteen seconds ago he’d had one hundred and seventy pounds of Patrick spread out on top of him. Of course he hasn’t tested yet. “I just woke up.”

“Don’t make me test you myself.” Patrick flings back the covers and stalks to the bathroom in his underwear. Will rolls his eyes but grabs his kit and quickly tests. Over the sound of piss hitting water, Patrick calls out, “Well? What’s the number?”

“Ninety-eight. Calm your tits.”

Patrick comes out, arms crossed over his chest and his hair sticking up everywhere. “Calm my tits? Calm your tits.”

Will indicates his nipples. “What? Check ’em out. Not even a little bit pointy.”

Patrick narrows his gaze but a reluctant smirk tweaks up the corner of his mouth.

“Let me guess.” Will laughs. “You know how to change that.” The knot of worry loosens in his chest.

“Maybe later. I have to eat first.”

While they wait for room service, they shower and shave, and Will endures Patrick making a solid pitch for him to consider a Continuous Glucose Monitoring System.

“I’ll ask Dr. Anastasia about it,” Will compromises.

“And a pump.”

“Don’t push your luck.”

They throw on robes to greet Perry and his cart of warm, delicious-smelling goodies. Conversation is cut dead at that point as Patrick devours his bacon, muffins, doughnuts, and strawberries with fresh cream. Will’s healthier breakfast of cottage cheese, whole-wheat toast, and a small slice of quiche Lorraine isn’t nearly as exciting, but he doesn’t know how Patrick stays so slim eating like he does. If he tried it, he’d be the size of a house.

Once they finish breakfast, Will broaches the topic. “We’re going to need to talk about my dad eventually.”

“What happened to pretending he’s dead?”

“Unfortunately, he’s not.”

“Point.”

“And he’s staying in this building, so we’re bound to run into him sooner rather than later.”

“Better point.”

Will lets a wry grin spread on his lips. “But I’m not going to just sit back and let him run the show this time. I need find out why he’s in town and then get him to leave again. As soon as possible.” He stands up and brings the chess set over to the table, clearing away their plates. “If we can play ahead of his game, we can at least capture his queen. And then maybe even his king. Especially since he won’t be expecting us to be playing at all.”

“If by queen you’re referring to Kimberly, I don’t know about that. She’s a slippery one.”

“You think Tony’s back because of my mother?”

“Historically, her milkshake has brought him to the yard.”

Will sighs as he sets up the board. “She’s only been dating Jason a few weeks. Tony usually waits for her to get serious before he drops in to ruin her chance at happiness.”

“Maybe Jason proposed.”

“That’d be on The Hurting Times forums ten minutes after it happened. Have you seen it there?”

“Nope.”

“And Caitlin would have called threatening to jump off a bridge or shave her head or something drastic in protest.”

“So he hasn’t put a ring on it yet.”

Will moves his pawn forward. “It’s still a starting place.”

Patrick shoves one of his pawns out to an empty square. “Before surgery, I have to know what I’m dealing with. I can’t just cut into someone’s noggin without knowing if I’m going in to repair damage or to cut out a tumor. Same here. We need more information. What’s your dad’s sign?”

Will’s lips flatten. “Seriously?”

Patrick lifts his brows.

“Sagittarius.”

“I knew it!” Patrick shakes his head. “Never trust a Sagittarius.”

Will sighs and ignores this. “Even though the award ceremony isn’t until March, word is getting around now that I won the Healing Hero Award. I hope to God he’s not planning to stick around for that.”

“A congratulatory phone call from Mobster Daddy would have sufficed.”

Will moves a pawn in front of the right bishop. “You’ve been slapped with that stupid malpractice suit. That might have raised his hackles too, if he’s not sure of your intentions toward me.”

“I have zero honorable intentions toward you. So, he’d be onto something there.”

Will snorts. “You made an honest man of me.”

“For now.”

“Yeah.” Will smiles softly as gentle warmth blooms in his chest. “For now.” He bites his lip. “Do you think sex will be even dirtier once we’re divorced?”

Patrick looks up from contemplating the chessboard. “Are you planning on sleeping with me after we’re divorced?”

Will’s ears burn. “Would we have to stop?”

Patrick swallows, his blue eyes shading darker. “Not unless we want to stop.”

Heat zings in the air between them. Will clears his throat. “That’s a long time from now. Who knows when we’ll even have to think about it? You’ll probably be tired of sleeping with me by the time a loophole opens up for us.”

“I’ll never get tired of fucking you.”

Patrick sounds so certain that Will’s dick stirs and he has to look away, focusing his attention back on the chessboard. He’s not sure whose move it is now. “Anyway, there are plenty of reasons for Tony to make the trip from Minneapolis. I’m surprised I didn’t see it coming.”

I loved this book so much!  Another great addition to this series, I could not put it down once I started it.  You get a lot of angst/violence with this book like the other books in the series.  Can I say how much I love Seth’s character he is so sweet no matter what happens around him.  Then you get Domenico who is still violent but loves Seth so much and is so protective of him.  I will say I do not like Dana at all,  she is so two faced and you see that a lot more with this book.  Then we get introduced to a new character a teenager they help.  I do not want to give too much away about him other then I felt so bad for him and I just wanted to hug him.  In this book Seth is dealing with his injury’s he received in the pervious book and I just wanted to hug him too for everything he had been through.  There was one part were something happened at the swamp that was shocking and the whole time it was happening I was so scared for Seth. Now I will tell you there was also some very hot scenes between Seth and Dom whew. There was a few times I had to fan myself after reading them. You could definitely feel Domenico and Seth’s love for each other through this whole book.  I love them as a couple they are so perfect for each other.  Every book I have read from these authors has grabbed me from the start and I am on the edge of my seat until the end.  I can not wait for the next book in this series!  So I will leave this review with I loved this book and I would definitely recommend this series!

Seth and Dom are back!!!! And is it exciting, I just love these two guys, their fierce, loving and downright scary.  I love the addition of Mark to the story, it brings out the caring side of Dom and Seth.  Then the added bonus of the Coffin Nails MC in the story, this one hit all my buttons. Awesome book!!!

The action, the love scenes, the helicopter and the Tank oh my!!! Ladies this is a remarkable series, can’t wait for more. If you haven’t read the first couple please do this is a fantastic series.

Sherry
FiveStars

I love Dom and Seth.

At the start of this book, the former mafia hitman and The Family’s heir apparent are living a surprisingly domesticated American blue collar life.

Seth has put on weight while recovering from his injuries.  Dom is keeping house and living on the American fast food he complained about for the duration of the first two books.  They’ve even kinda got a child to care for- if you can count a sixteen-year-old rent boy/con-artist/runaway as a child.  Add Dana, Dom’s sociopath apprentice hitwoman, and they could be any suburban American family.

But when Dom and Seth manage to annoy the local biker gang, it is only Dom’s unique skill set that can save them all.

While the authors sustain the series’ trademark combination of sex appeal, humour and action, this is quite different from the first two books.  Much of the gore is missing, as is the actual mafia.  Instead, Dom, Seth and the biker gang find themselves chasing human traffickers and rescuing teenage victims.  They do wrestle an alligator, dump a couple of bodies and set off a series of explosives, but they are definitely growing up and they almost seem to be fighting for a good cause by the end.

The parental responsibility Dom and Seth take for Mark is comical until it becomes very sweet.  The cold, detached hitman from the first book is doing an awfully good job of mentoring two people who might even be more messed up than he is.

Wounded, fat and coping  without a proper kitchen, Seth’s confidence has deserted him by the start of this book.  In between all the absurdly comical mishaps is the smaller, sweeter story of how Seth manages to get his confidence back and how Seth and Dom get their relationship back on track.

These books are wonderful.  I think I still love the second one best, but Dom and Seth are fast becoming two of my all time favourite m/m pairings.

A fantastic book.

Sarah
FourandHalfStars
The writing duo of K.A. Merikan has another hit in my book. This book was filled with some much mystery and suspense it was unbelievable. The duo was able to show that love between Dom and Seth and also show the despair Dom had of dealing with Seth’s torture and the sex was HOT. Road block after road block Seth and Dom rise above it all and their love seems stronger then ever. Absolutely loved how Dom would “scold” Seth when he acted on the many whims he had.  Can’t wait for the next book.

This was an interesting book. Just like the first book, there was a lot of promise there, but it seemed to just not quite get there.

The first 3/4 of the book was quite good. We got to see a bit of what happened to the couple from the first book too, which was nice. This story was developed more fully than the first one was and still an easy read, however there was a lot of editing errors that really distracted from the story or awkward sentence starts.

Then we get this huge build up to this one scene…. and then… FLOP… I mean really this scene should’ve been HUGE and instead it’s two paragraphs leaving the reading feeling completely let down.

It makes me feel sad that up until that point I’d thought the story was quite good and from that point on it just went downhill for me.

I felt like the whole mystery behind the child testing center thing is an added point that almost distracts from the main part of the story as well. It really only comes up when convient and doesn’t really affect any other part of the story.

I do hope the next book gets better in the leaps and bounds that this one was than the first one because it was much better.

Excerpt

Dante’s POV

Flexing my fingers, I strode into the alleyway, keeping to the shadows.

“Move away from him.” My steady, low-pitched voice hung in the humid air, arms stilled at my sides.

“This is none of your business, mister,” the man Carl had approached in the club spoke as he straightened to his full height.

A large man, he stood wider than me and built like a wrestler. Same as his friend. They reminded me of an old nursery rhyme I’d read as a kid—Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

“I’ll walk away if you let him come with me.” The negotiator in me held court. In my line of work, this skill had saved my skin more times than I could count. Especially since it distracted the adversary into thinking I lacked the physical strength to back it up.

“Not until we’re done here.”

One look into Carl’s rounded and pleading eyes and I switched tactics, stepping into their space.

Tweedledee growled and charged, swinging his arms.

My reflexes took over. After ducking low, I smashed my fist into Tweedledee’s groin. He gave an agonised grunt and fell with a thud to the ground.

Whoosh. Wham. Tweedledum came at me, fists jabbing in methodical motions like a boxer. Jaw clenched in a snarl, I ducked his punches, biding my time as I was slowly pushed back into a corner. My experience made me keep my composure while adrenaline flooded my veins.

The chance came. I stepped wide with my left foot, swung my right leg behind him and kicked back. Tweedledum tumbled. I pulled him backward with his arms and flipped him over my right hip. As the man crashed onto the ground, I corked my hand, ready to deliver a death blow.

“No!” Carl shouted, a terrified tremor in his voice.

Author Name: Kai Tyler
Publication Date & Length: July 12, 2015 – 30 pgs

Synopsis

Dear Author,
He is the most captivating creature I have ever seen. A human. So frail in body, yet his strength is undeniable. And though he caught the eye of many, he is mine now. No one else could match my bid. In a couple minutes they will release him to me. And I will never let him go.

I am under no illusions. I know he will look upon my deformations and find me hideous. He will be repulsed by my weakness and wish to belong to a finer warrior. But at least I will not be like the others of my kind. I will not use my greater size and strength to hurt and control him. I will not squash the pride in his eyes, equal to any of my people. His beautiful back will never feel the lash again. At least with me he will be free of the pain. But not free to leave. Never free to leave me.

A man is bound with coarse, wound rope, hands stretched to the sides and back, body bowed from the waist and head tilted downwards. On the outside he appears beaten. Broken. This is a warrior and while the battle may be lost, the war is not over.

This was an interesting little story for sure. However, while it was interesting, I felt like a lot of it was only half developed.
The writing style was very smooth and it was easy to read, however, we are left with so many questions unanswered, not to mention how fast time progresses. I understand the progression and the desire there, but it could’ve used more development between the characters.
There was a lot of promise in the story, but it needed to answer all the questions that were left open at the end of the book. What happened to these characters? Will we ever know? It would’ve made more sense to me if the next book in the series had been about what happens with them, but as it is about other people, I was left greatly disappointed.

This book wow!  The relationship between Seth and  Domenico it was Angst, Drama plus sprinkle that with a whole lot of violence.  That is one of the reasons I am such a big fan of K.A. Merikan’s books.  They are gritty, keep you on the each of your seat and leave you shocked about what you just read.  Now I am a big fan of Seth’s character  he is sweet and a little naïve.  Then you get Domenico he was raw, violent to a point where it bugged me a little with how violent he was with Seth at times.  I love them as a couple with everything they have to do to be together and they way Domenico is so protective of Seth.  This book will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next.  It has the perfect amount of angst/ drama and kept me up all night reading.  I would definitely recommend this book!

Oh god, were do I start. This book was simply amazing. It had everything under the sun in it: jealousy, violence, and suspense. My first complaint on book 1 was Seth was a wimp and had very little confidence. In this book we really see Seth step up to the plate in trying to become the new Don, even though he has no desire to be the next Don. I really became Seth’s strongest supporter after reading book 2.

In this book we see how much Dom and Seth relationship become stronger. I really love reading about the strength of love and how it becomes the substance of these men. Can’t wait to begin reading the next installment to see where the authors go next.

This book was great, even though it was dark read and I’m not much for dark reads. The authors were able to take too violentlyintimidating men and weave a story so completely passionate that it knocked my socks off. I feel in love with Dom almost immediately. Dom was clearly a monster and Seth a wimp. Seth clearly didn’t want any part of the family business but was drawn back into it through him being kidnapped.

Getting into the story I realized that Seth acting like a wimp was clearly a defense mechanism. I know I certainly would feel like that if my family was in the mafia. Can’t wait to see where the next book goes.

Whew.. Well, as much as I found wrong with the first part.. it was all fixed in the second part. Sure Seth is still a bit of a wuss considering his situation, but finally we get to see him man up for the man he loves.

Dom once again knocked my socks off. He was so sexy, supportive, conflicted at times (for all the right reasons).. Just fantastic.  He’s so strong, yet emotional (once we get to know him). I loved him so much!

I know it brought tears to my eyes at times because you go through so much with these men as a couple only to have one obstacle after another thrown their way.

The one part I didn’t care for was that some things were REALLY glossed over… like the fact that Seth had his first woman lover and while I understand WHY it wasn’t talked about much, I think there should’ve been a bit more detail/feelings about that whole situation.

I SOOOO need the next installment.. Like STAT.. yesterday.. NOW!!! It ends on such a mega cliffhanger I’m chewing my nails and sweating at the same time.. hurry up and write/edit/publish!

Publication Date & Length: September 11, 2014 – 323 pgs

Synopsis

— Love is sour like a Sicilian lemon. —

The Family is always right.
The Family doesn’t forget.
The Family pays for blood in blood.

Domenico Acerbi grew up in the shade of Sicilian lemon trees ready to give his life for the Family. Ready to follow orders and exceed expectations. A proud man of honor.
When Seth, the younger son of the Don is kidnapped, it’s Domenico who is sent to get him back. The man he finds though, is not the boy he knew all those years ago. Lazy, annoying, spoiled, and as hot as a Sicilian summer.

Seth Villani wants nothing to do with the mafia. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get a say when the Family pulls him right back into its fold after his mother’s death. Thrown into a den of serpents otherwise known as the Villani Family, Seth has to find a way to navigate in the maze of lies. But when Domenico Acerbi, the most vicious snake of them all, sinks his fangs into Seth, the venom changes into an aphrodisiac that courses through Seth’s veins.

Domenico knows his life is about to change when he gets the order to train Seth up to the role of future Don. Seth isn’t made for it. He isn’t evenmade. But a man Domenico knows he would never have to fear might just be someone he’s always needed.

If Seth is doomed to follow in his father’s footsteps, he might as well enjoy himself—with the most intoxicating man he’s ever met. Maybe he can even fool himself into believing that Domenico isn’t a handsome sociopath who kills for a living.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

Themes: Enemies to lovers, mafia, homophobia, assassin, organized crime

‘Guns n’ Boys’ is a gritty story of extreme violence, offensive language, abuse, and morally ambiguous protagonists. Behind the morbid facade, there is a splash of inappropriate dark humor, and a love story that will crawl under your skin.

ThreeandHalfStars

This is actually a hard review to write for me… I’m on the fence as to what to rate the book. Here is why…
Seth (our main character) is supposed to be the next Don. I had such a hard time with this because the kid is such a puss that I don’t understand why his father chose him.. But I suppose we’ll find out as the story progresses.
Domenico (our other primary character) was hot. I loved him and his bad ass attitude. In a way I felt sorry for him for being stuck with Seth. Their relationship only worked for me because Seth was SO a bottom (even though he swore up and down that he was a top).
Then there is the Mafia side of things. The book fit in the category for me as Dom is prepping Seth for his ascension. I really hope we get some clarity about Seth’s fathers choices in part 2 because that was one of the hardest parts for me to understand (and get through).
Lastly, the length. Good gosh did it take me forever to get through this book. While I absolutely loved the writing style and the scenes were good too, it just felt like there was so much time spent in each scene that the story stood still and I had to keep putting it down because I’d get tired of seeming like we weren’t really getting anywhere.
All in all, not a bad read and I’ll read the follow up so I can find out what happens to these two. I really did feel like the synopsis over shot quite a bit as I didn’t think the story was all that gritty or violent or even really enemies to lovers. Sure, Seth wasn’t always besties with Domenico, but I wouldn’t say they were even close to enemies.
