Synopsis

Can KCPD detectives keep the latest designer drug off the streets and out of the hands of teenagers?

There’s a new drug of choice in town, and the detectives of the KCPD Vice Department are working fast to keep it away from unsuspecting students looking for a cheap high. His recent announcement that he’s gay causes concern for his mother and her new husband, and the parents of the boy he’s been caught in a compromising position with.

Wynn struggles to help his son adjust, not having gone through the same issues since he didn’t come out until he was divorced with a child. When the new five dollar Insanity drug invades Con’s school, the boy is forced to grow up faster than his parents would have liked. Will the love and support of handsome English teacher Reilly O’Keefe be enough to sustain Wynn and Connor, or are they in too deep to scrabble their way out of danger?

Book nine in this series was a good read and I like that Jenna took it a little further by bringing in a teacher as a main character and not mention Fahey’s son as a supporting character.

With the new drug going around Con’s school this leads to Fahey meeting Reilly. Reilly is one on Con’s teacher and helps how he can to take down those individuals that are distributing drugs at the school.

Fahey and Reilly come together under not so great circumstances with the drug problem but their chemistry is off the charts.

I also like how Con was honest about his own sexuality and that Fahey would do whatever necessary to help his son to deal with the outcome.

Great read!!

I flashed my membership card. The twink on the front desk smiled at me. He was a sweet little cocksucker who reminded me a lot of my favorite gay porn star, Leo Giamani, but I wanted to scope the locker and steam rooms.

There were a few loiterers in both, nothing worth investigating. I was starting to think my urge for a hot fuck after the biggest haul in my personal memory was going to be a bust.

And then, I saw him.

Man, he was hot. He had a body that appealed to my sense of aesthetics. His skin tone was the color of milky coffee, his hair dark. Nice cock, thick, big, half-hard. He was running his hands through his hair, about to turn off the shower taps when he saw me.

We traded glances and he gave me a half-smile.

I held up a finger and his smile widened a fraction. I quickly dumped my stuff in a locker, grabbed a lambskin condom and joined him in the shower.

His gaze fell on my cock, which was big, hard and ready to play.

Fuck, he mouthed and turned around. His face was beautiful, his ass even sweeter. Hands splayed against the wall, water ran down his back and I heard him moan as I tore the package open with my teeth and rolled that rubber over the length of my shaft. I stroked it down, smoothing out the ridges and ran my hands over his ass.

His skin was warm. My thumbs reached into his ass crack. Nice and tight.

I ran my fingers ran over his hole and he squirmed against them. Shit, he was ready. I inched my cock toward his ass and felt the heat before I was even close. I sliced into him and felt his hole resist, then embrace me. I fucked him slowly at first and he pushed into my hips. I gripped him with both hands, but I didn’t need to worry. His muscular legs were planted firmly on the floor and he wanted to be fucked.

I kept one hand on his ass, moving the other around his belly, reaching between his thighs to stroke him off. I like the feeling of a guy coming when I am. I love the way their ass muscles bear down on my cock. Hell, if he’s bringing me heaven, I should save a slice for him.

We fucked like we’d been doing it forever. He anticipated every move I made. And yet…and yet it was new and exciting. The thrill of being caught kept me hard until I felt his come spurt over my fingers and splash the wall. My cock was caught in his grip and I shot inside him, my mouth moving to his neck. I wanted to bite him, don’t ask me why. I never want to kiss the guys I fuck, but this one seemed surprised, then turned his face and his tongue ran right across my lips and I thought I would never stop coming.

This was such a good story about drugs in schools, how the kids handle it and the consequences that come from drugs.

Wynn was the main character and was a cop along with his son Connor who was in high school.  Wynn meets Reilly a teacher and it was instant attraction. I thought Wynn and Reilly’s relationship moved pretty fast, but it seemed to work very well with the story content.  Wynn’s ex wife’s husband was a jerk. Though it did add some conflict to the story it did make the ex wife and Wynn understand each other better.  Other than the major plot of the drugs it was a good story about how family sticks together.

Even though it was a short story I felt that it was complete. I really enjoyed this book and always look forward to reading more by Jenna Byrnes.

This is totally a standalone in this series even though at the beginning it is a bit overwhelming with all the characters being thrown at the reader, once you get past that, I don’t think we see much of any of the other characters from previous books.
I liked that this was a cop book, but it wasn’t so much so that you lose track of the characters… And I can’t help but love that it’s a teacher book, because who didn’t have a crush on a teacher at one point in their life or another so this was fun for me.
There was a lot of insta chemistry, but I liked the way the two men came together even with the evil ex and tween around to be dealt with.
I will say that I felt like the designer drug was sort of not a finished sideline of the book when it had taken up so much of a part of the book so that was a bit of a disappointment for me.

This is the ninth book in Jenna Byrnes Kansas City Heat series and I loved it. Jenna Byrnes just draws you into the story and makes you believe. This story deals with primarily drug use in high school thru college and how the main characters deal with it. Wynn and Reilly were absolutely great together and I immediately connected with both MC’s and was amazed with how they dealt with a new cheaper drug that was hitting the schools. Ms. Byrnes also shows how they dealt with becoming involved with each other and again made this insta-love believable. This was a very easy read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Title: Murder and Mayhem (Murder and Mayhem #1)
Author Name & Publisher: Rhys Ford (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: June 5, 2015 – 236 pgs

Synopsis

Dead women tell no tales.

Former cat burglar Rook Stevens stole many a priceless thing in the past, but he’s never been accused of taking a life—until now. It was one thing to find a former associate inside Potter’s Field, his pop culture memorabilia shop, but quite another to stumble across her dead body.

Detective Dante Montoya thought he’d never see Rook Stevens again—not after his former partner’d falsified evidence to entrap the jewelry thief and Stevens walked off scot-free. So when he tackled a fleeing murder suspect, Dante was shocked to discover the blood-covered man was none other than the thief he’d fought to put in prison and who still made his blood sing.

Rook is determined to shake loose the murder charge against him, even if it means putting distance between him and the rugged Cuban-Mexican detective who brought him down. If one dead con artist wasn’t bad enough, others soon follow, and as the bodies pile up around Rook’s feet, he’s forced to reach out to the last man he’d expect to believe in his innocence—and the only man who’s ever gotten under Rook’s skin.

I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
Murder and Mayhem was a very faced paced murder mystery.  The plot was was very intense which kept you interested in the story.

I loved how Rook and Dante started off with a strained relationship, but sparks still flew off the page with their feelings. They had this relationship where Dante was always trying to find reasons to arrest Rook.

My favorite comment from Rook was:
“First time you fuck me, there’d better be warm sheets and a soft pillow under my ass. Forewarned, Montoya. Forewarned”

This was a fantastic book. I look forward to reading more of this series as it comes out. Love between a cop and a criminal always makes for an exciting story.

This was the last part of the Boys in Blue series and it was about James. He knows he is gay but doesn’t want to admit it to anyone, not even himself. That is until he gets a new roommate, who he didn’t know was gay until he is fighting unwanted emotions.
I actually liked James. He was a bit harder than the men in the other books, but he also didn’t want to admit he was gay so I understood it. The only part I didn’t like is it seemed like everyone was so against admitting they were gay, I’d have liked to have them admit that they were bi or admit that they were maybe into men but also women instead of it always being one way or the other at least for curiosity sake before they go from always loving women to not only loving men.
All in all another good story from Mia and I can’t wait to read more of her work!

This was a more challenging installment of this series for me. Our two men are both openly gay, although it doesn’t seem that way. One appears gay while the other is more macho making people not think of him in that light.
There were times when I wanted to grab and shake each character for their hardheadedness because they both wanted the same things, only had a much harder time getting there because of appearances and prejudices within the gay community.
In the end, things were beautiful just like all the other Boys in Blue book even though at times I really wondered if they could make it there…. And we got a bit of insight into who the next story is very likely going to be about.

This was my favorite couple so far in the Boys in Blue series. Two cops, one that is out and one that is still in the closet.
There is a murder case going on that keeps pulling the two together.
The dynamics of the couple was intriguing. The battle of one to ignore his attraction because he simply can’t go back to hiding who he is after the difficulty of coming out while the other faces the impossible decision of coming out to be with someone when there is no certainty it will last.
Another hot story from Mia with characters that you connect quickly with and want to see things work out for.
