Title: Shell Shocked (Yolks on You #1)

Publication Date & Length: March 27, 2016 — 199 pages

Synopsis

When Dominic agrees to join his boyfriend Alec and his kids for a weekend away at the annual Eggstravaganza in Mount Angus, Wisconsin, he’s expecting a boring, if kitschy, experience. He isn’t expecting to discover Alec is cheating on him, and he certainly isn’t expecting an exploding cow to drop him in the middle of a deadly mystery.

Suddenly single and surrounded by a town’s worth of suspects, Dom finds himself oddly drawn to playing the sleuth, especially if it will get him closer to Kiko, the owner of the niche shop Yolks on You.

Together the two men navigate a web of intrigue and lies, and the sniping of a jealous Alec, in a town filled with murder and Easter-themed mayhem. Will they manage to make it through the Eggstravaganza alive, or will the murderer leave them much more than just Shell Shocked?

This is an intriguing book with murder, mayhem, cheating boyfriend turned ex jealous boyfriend, to explosions, guns, and lots of Easter eggs. So in other words there is something for everyone in this book, including but not limited to finding that one person who makes you think of changing your whole life and taking a chance on love again.

His was really a great book. It holds you captivated from the moment the first explosion takes place. Every time you think the characters, Kiko and Dom, has figured out who it is that is setting the explosions off there is a new twist and turn that tells you …. Nope, you have the wrong person. Then when you get close to the end and you really think that you know who it is finally… You are thrown for another loop and BAM it is not that person either.

Not to mention along the way Kiko and Dom continually get closer to one another and you are left wondering will they work out or are they going to leave it at a vacation fling. Even that is a mystery up to the last moment when you think you finally figured that out also and hen they do what you did not see coming.

If you like a book with action, adventure, mystery, and love lost and love gained…. You will love this book. I know I did and I cannot wait to see what Jessica Payseur will do in the future with new books in the series. Definitely a book that captures your attention and holds it too the very end. It was a great read.

4 Sweet Second Chance Stars!
I read the previous book in this series and enjoyed it. I was looking forward to this one.
For the most part, I enjoyed this second chance story. The main character’s had some issues to forgive in each other and that kind of annoyed me but then I put myself in their shoes and could relate.
There was a sweet intensity between the character’s and that is what kept my attention. I was rooting for them!!!! It was short but still a packed a punch.
I would read more by this author.

This book can be read as a stand alone.

Chris is a computer whiz who meets Jason at a company party. They are instantly attracted to each other but Chris has been hurt before…

Now I was not a huge fan of what Chris did but it felt like it took almost half of this book for Jason to forgive him which I really was not a fan of at all. I do not like it when one MC will forgive the other too quick but there is also that line where it seems to take way too long for forgiveness to happen for me too.

But other than that you get a lot of action and angst in this book. I did really like how this author wrote these characters and this story I just wish I could have read more about them together than I did. I do not want to give away any spoilers so I will leave this review with… I loved Chris and Jason together with what we got of them as a couple and I really liked this book!

Excerpt

It took him a few minutes to find the right place, and his heart lurched when he saw Jason sparring with a tall, broad-shouldered Native American merc. He hovered in the doorway of the training room, torn between wanting to run over, fling himself at Jason, and beg for forgiveness, or wanting to flee.

Jason had changed. Gone were the thick, dark waves that Chris had loved to run his fingers through; Jason had shorn it all off in favor of a buzz cut, and Chris wanted to cry at the loss. Jason’s shoulders were broader, and he was even more muscular overall. After working with mercs for so long, Chris knew the difference between bodybuilder muscles and working muscles, and he could tell Jason had gotten those hard muscles from work. Jason’s body wasn’t the only thing that looked harder; Jason’s face looked different as well. More closed off, more distant. It was enough to make Chris want to turn and run. How could he possibly stand a chance with this Jason?

Before he could slip away unnoticed, the other merc knocked Jason on his ass. Jason let out a grunt when he hit the floor, but he didn’t grimace or show any other sign of pain. He simply bounded to his feet and turned—and spotted Chris.

For a long moment, he simply stood there, holding Chris’ gaze, and something that Chris thought might be hope brightened his eyes. Then Jason turned away, said something to his sparring partner, and headed toward the far side of the room.

Chris’ heart plummeted at that clear rejection signal, but he knew he deserved it. He lifted his chin and squared his shoulders. Jason had seen him, so he couldn’t just sneak out like this had never happened, and he hadn’t come all this way to give up so easily anyway. The other merc’s eyebrows climbed as he watched Chris march across the room, and Chris heard him say something about going to the showers, but Chris’ attention was focused entirely on Jason.

“Jason, I’d like to talk,” he said firmly as he approached.

Jason draped a towel around his neck, his spine straightening before he turned slowly to face Chris. Up close, Chris could see that a slender, pale line of a scar now bisected Jason’s right eyebrow. The line mercifully skipped over his eye, but picked up again on his cheek, running down to the sharp line of his jaw. It made his cheekbones look even more pronounced and pulled the line of his lips slightly crooked, though that wasn’t easy to judge, since he was clenching his jaw.

“I believe you agreed six months ago that there was nothing more to say,” Jason replied, his voice ragged, betraying emotions that didn’t show on his face. “And you didn’t want to subject yourself to a long, awkward ride.”

“A lot can change in six months,” Chris pointed out, aching to reach out and touch Jason but knowing he didn’t have that right yet. “You have. So have I.”

“Is that so?” Jason regarded him with narrowed eyes, a muscle twitching slightly in his jaw. It was something Chris recognized at once as a “tell,” an indicator that Jason wasn’t nearly as unaffected by Chris’ presence as he was trying to appear; sometimes the little things he’d learned from being around people in the physical side of the security business were quite useful.

“Yes, that’s so,” Chris replied quietly. This was the part where he laid himself utterly bare and held nothing back, which was terrifying, but it was necessary if he wanted any hope of winning Jason back.

“I’ve had plenty of time to think about what an idiot I was. I’m sorry I hurt you, and I’m sorry I didn’t trust you. You didn’t do anything wrong. It was all me and my stupid insecurities getting in the way.

Letting you go was the biggest mistake of my life.”

Jason’s eyes widened slightly as if he was surprised at Chris being so blunt and forthcoming. At first, he stared back at Chris, seeming to search for something. Finally he gave a terse nod. “I’m glad you realize that,” he said quietly.

“I do, and I’m willing to do anything to make up for my stupidity.” Chris took a little step closer, gazing up at Jason hopefully. “I’ve missed you so much, Jason. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how good we were together. I came here to see if there was any way you’d consider giving me a second chance.”

Again, Jason didn’t answer immediately, and this time, there was no mistaking the pain in the look he gave Chris. “There’s a problem with that.” He glanced away from Chris and frowned. “Trust has to go both ways.”

TWO 5, 4.5, 4, and 3.5 Stars for Promises Part I (Bounty Hunters #1) by A.E. Via #MM #Romance @AuthorAEVia

1.5

Title: Promises Part I (Bounty Hunters #1)
Author Name & Publisher: A.E. Via (Via Star Wings Publishing)
Publication Date & Length: October 16, 2015 – 260 pgs

Synopsis

Duke Morgan owns and operates one of the largest bail bond companies in Atlanta. Not only does he bond criminals out of jail, he and his notorious group of bounty hunters will also track them down and ensure they show up for court.

Roman ‘Quick’ Webb is Duke’s business partner and best friend. Both men are in their forties and have given up on the happily ever after with the ranch-style home, and white picket fence. They’d both tried it and failed miserably. But they have their friendship and they have the business.

When Quick’s son, Vaughan Webb returns – after seven years – from studying abroad with his law degree in hand, he’s back to claim what he’s always wanted…his fathers’ best friend… Duke Morgan. Vaughan has always claimed to be a classic gentleman with an old soul. He didn’t party and screw up in school like his buddies. He was focused and dedicated to becoming the man worthy of Duke’s love.

It’s a complex and messy situation as Duke and Quick figure out how to still be best friends when one of them is sleeping with his friend’s one and only son. But when Duke is hurt on the job, all the unimportant trivialities fall to the wayside and Vaughan and Quick put their heads together to save Duke.

Part I of the Promises story is about Duke and Vaughan. Part II will be about Quick and his realization that it’s not too late for any of them to find love.

With this book you get Vaughn who has been in love with Duke for a long time but never acted on it.
Duke Owns his own bail bonds business and he has been hurt in the past when someone he loved did not return his feelings.
Now I want to say I loved this two together yes this was a slow burn but the way everything worked together I thought it was just so good!
What Vaughn does for Duke was just so sweet and honestly awesome, this is where I want to say how good it was that there was not any unneeded drama around it which sometimes happens in books and I can say I am not a huge fan of so it was really good that something that special Vaughn had done for Duke was accepted without to much anger or any unnecessary break ups.
I honestly love the way A.E. Via writes Alpha’s in her books and the Steam which there may of not have been lot of but to me there perfect amount and it was so very hot!!!
You meet some new characters in this book too which I honestly can not wait to read Quick’s book!!
There was action in this book and a lot of sweet too which I thought everything worked together in this story perfectly and I was on the edge of my seat hoping for the best for these two men. I also loved the age gap in this book there is just something about a older alpha man that is just so hot!!

So all together I really loved this book!
I would definitely recommend this book!

Ok, this was very romantic. Like, so sweet, OMG so romantic. Just my type of romance haha. Duke Morgan, badass bounty hunter,  is nursing a broken heart (even though he says he’s not) and here comes Vaughan, the sexy, sexy son of his best friend and co-worker.
Vaughan has been in love with Duke since he was a teenage, like 14. There’s a slight age gap between them, like over 12 years, but Vaughan doesn’t care. He’s gonna get his man and he got him. He made sure to graduate at the top of his class to become a lawyer to prove that he could be a good match for Duke.
I was rooting for him. Poor Duke needed so much love and affection and Vaughan was right there to give it to him. Hell, he even gave him a kidney! Now that’s love, people. There’s some back story with Duke’s ex lover and I guess I have to hunt that book down cause I’m curious lol.
I can’t wait for Quick’s story. It should be interesting.

FourStarsIn the first book of this new series, AE Via rejects the crude action-comedy formula that made her Nothing Special series a hit in favour of a gentler, more tender tone that will appeal to a slightly different audience.
With Judge and Michaels’ story in the last Nothing Special book as a bridge, Promises follows the members of Judge’s bounty hunter business rather than the members of God and Day’s team.  Judge’s boss and former partner Duke stars this time, and his best friend Quick’s son Vaughn is his younger love interest.  As in any AE Via book, the men are hot and the chemistry is brilliant.
For me, this was a little bit too saccharine.  I love God and Day’s rough, rude and vaguely open relationship.  I’m more ambivalent about Vaughn and Duke’s fated, self-sacrificing love.  But this is a personal preference.  All the readers who have complained about explicit group sex in the Nothing Special series will appreciate the monogamy and emotional angst in this new story.  Personally, I wanted more car chases and explosions.
There is very little action in this story.  Duke is injured at the start of the book in one of two action sequences.  The remainder of the story revolves around his injury and recovery.  I think AE Via writes better action scenes than medical scenes.  The accuracy of the medical details irritated me – and I was beginning to irritate my Nephrologist husband with my questions by the end.  Note – Nephrologists are physicians, not surgeons.  They also treat kidneys, not gunshot wounds. But aside from a poncey name, Dr. Chauncey is cute enough that I’d let him treat just about anything – and in this story, he does.  Hell, he even makes home visits.
The May to December thing usually irritates me, but aside from a few squirmy moments when Duke is about to shag his best friend’s son in his best friend’s house, 31 and 45 doesn’t seem like an untenable age gap.  Again, we meet God and Day as 20 something rookies – I think the author is going for an older, more restrained audience here.
This is very sweet and very touching.  Our men still wear leather and carry guns, but this is more heartfelt than anything I’ve read by AE Via before.  Personally, I much prefer the Nothing Special series.  There is only so much bedside hand-wringing I can tolerate.  I did love Vaughn’s ability to talk dirty, though I spent much of the book wishing for more than talk.~SarahFiveStars

This was a great book. I don’t think I’ve read any of A.E. Via’s books in the past so I was very happy to find that this was such a great read.
There is a lot of turmoil that happens between the characters, but I absolutely couldn’t put it down because it was believable and extraordinarily well written.
I have to say I loved Vaughan and his dedication to Duke even before they’d become a couple. Not to mention he was HOT… Just SMOKIN.. Not to mention incredibly giving and loving and just… *sigh* the perfect man. He was willing to do for a man he hadn’t even told he loved yet things that people who’ve spent years together wouldn’t do.
Duke was so great too. He was so strong and manly and fantastic. He’s been through heartbreak when the man he thought he loved leaves him for someone much younger than him. However, once he experiences what it’s really like to be with someone who wants you for the right reason, he knows he was never in love with Judge.
Sure, there were times where it will probably come off as a bit cheesy to some people, but those are people that likely haven’t been in a situation where you really find out who is going to be there for you and who is only a poser… even if they didn’t realize which side they were on until then.
Anywho… Great story. Great love story about dedication that is over the top and just what someone needs when the worst happens.
Renee
ThreeandHalfStarsThis book had me lost and I think that may have been because I still have not read Don’t Judge first. The book itself wasn’t bad, I liked the authors writing style and the editing was really good but that did not surprise me as I’ve read books from this author before. This book had sizzling hot scenes and a lot of chemistry between the characters; it also over-the-top romance and overused terms of endearment. I also felt that Duke and Vaughan just became involved too quickly. There should have been more to the relationship than just jumping in bed. I certainly hope the author thinks more about relationships before writing Quick’s story. Not everything can be insta-love.

So this is where I admit I was wrong… In this first book I said I did not feel them together at all.  I was so wrong, they are so good together!!!
This book blew me out of the water it was so damn good!
You get your angst, crazy stalker guy and a whole lot of action.  I just can’t even put into words how much I loved this book! I was on the edge of my sit the whole time and I could not put this down.
Miro and Ian are living together in this one and to see them as a couple, the way they interact together made me do a complete one eighty on what I felt about them before.  You get the steamy hot scenes with this book.  Plus so much more that I can’t say without giving away a ton of spoilers.
I can say I am not a fan of Ian’s family at all.  You also get to see all the characters from the previous book.
Yes they have their fights and their make-up..
What can I say about Miro other than I really love his character especially after everything he went through in this book, which was horrible.
Ian was the protective boyfriend which I loved and the loving one too.
So with out giving anymore away I will leave this review with I loved this book!
I would definitely 100% recommend this book!

I actually ended up liking this story in ways soooo much more than the first story. Granted, don’t get me wrong, the whole building of a relationship out of work and finding out Ian wasn’t as straight as Miro thought he was was amazing. However, with this one we really get to see the strength of their relationship and how it is growing outside of work and becoming so much more than either of them thought it could be.
Then we have the reappearance of the craziest doctor ever. And all the horrid things he wants to do to Miro if he gets his hands on him.
I LOVED this entire book even though it’s been a while since I’ve read the first one, it was easy to jump right back into their story and remember where they’d left off because they were both memorable characters.
There is a lot of twists and turns that go down in this book and in the end it all really worked for me.
I can’t wait to find out if we get more Miro and Ian!
Renee
FourandHalfStars
Miro and Ian are back and boy, this one is just as good as the first book!
There is just something about Mary…you feel like you’re reading the same characters from her other works, but I just don’t give a hoot. lol. I love her writing because she has that special something that keeps readers like me coming back for more. Her writing and her characters are addictive. I love the  chemistry of Miro and Ian. Hot Hot Hot! And so loving…tender….
*Sighhhhhhhh*
Ok, so, in Book 2, we have the usual chases, bad guys and Miro wanting to be Ian’s everything. He wants Ian to marry him, but Ian refuses. Grrrr, bad Ian! He frustrated me with his refusal and poor Miro had to deal with that AND gets kidnapped by a baddy. Seriously, the bad guy was nuts. *Shivers* The things he did to Miro…
Book 2 is entertaining, tender, loving, suspenseful and Hot. Did I mention Hot? Ok, just making sure. And the naughty scenes isn’t just the “Hotness” factor. The sweet moments are hot too. Gets my poor heart fluttering. The only reason I gave it a 4 1/2 instead of a 5 is because Miro’s miraculous recovery time.
The guy was beaten, shot, stabbed, etc and he still can get it up and go at it like rabbits with Ian in just a few days? REALLY? Mary Calmes, love your work and I adore this couple, but seriously, no way can someone take a beating like Miro and recover that quickly and this isn’t a supernatural book.
Still, loved the book. Can’t wait for 3!!
Cookie

Mary Calmes has done again! Excellent! What I love most about this book was the connection to Miro and Ian. I loved them in the first book and this one was no different. I love the humor that Ms. Calmes add to her books. I always get at least one really good laugh.

I can always count on Mary Calmes stories to grab me and keep me entertained. Ms. Calmes has a writing style that is very easy to read. Can’t wait for the next book. Bravo Ms. Calmes on a job well done.

Lynn
FiveStarsThis can be read as a standalone but is recommended to read the first book for the full experience.

Light, Camera, Action!  Reading this book is like watching one of those blockbuster action movies. You have your drama, your romance, lots of action with gun fire, mobsters and psychopaths. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. So go get your popcorn and prepare to sit down for a few hours while you watch this captivating movie, in text form.

I agree with one other reviewer that this book is character driven. The stars, Ian and Miro, are your perfect “cop” couple. They drive this book home and captivate you by their relationship, possessiveness and blunt honesty.  The verbal banter between Miro and Ian is charming, delightful, and funny as f… This would be a perfect series I can see on TNT or USA along the lines of Law and Order or Criminal Intent.

I hope there is a third book to this series where Ian and Miro get married. That would be wonderful to see.

If you like m/m law enforcement books, I guarantee you will like this one. Grab yourself a copy and expect to be drawn in and driven to the edge of your seat. As you can tell, I highly highly recommend this book.

First let me say this is my first book by this author and I was completely surprised. This author was able to weave a story so good that I couldn’t put the book down. The author was able to bring two men together that I would never have believed that they could make it work. Both men had some serious issues in their past and the author was able to make me believe that they belonged together. Don’t get me wrong they certainly and to work for it. That made for a very intense book. Will definitely read more books by this author and would highly recommend this to everyone.

Title: All Kinds of Tied Down (Marshals #1)
Author Name & Publisher: Mary Calmes (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: July 4, 2014 – 290 pgs

Synopsis

Deputy US Marshal Miro Jones has a reputation for being calm and collected under fire. These traits serve him well with his hotshot partner, Ian Doyle, the kind of guy who can start a fight in an empty room. In the past three years of their life-and-death job, they’ve gone from strangers to professional coworkers to devoted teammates and best friends. Miro’s cultivated blind faith in the man who has his back… faith and something more.

As a marshal and a soldier, Ian’s expected to lead. But the power and control that brings Ian success and fulfillment in the field isn’t working anywhere else. Ian’s always resisted all kinds of tied down, but having no home—and no one to come home to—is slowly eating him up inside. Over time, Ian has grudgingly accepted that going anywhere without his partner simply doesn’t work. Now Miro just has to convince him that getting tangled up in heartstrings isn’t being tied down at all.

**Audiobook Review**
I enjoyed this story as much as I have any others I have read of Mary Calmes. She has a unique way of writing characters that although in other situations they might not have worked together, they some how do.
To me this was more about friendship that was already a relationship only neither of the men realized it until finally the physical aspect was introduced. The story really revolved around mystery than the romance, which was kind of nice. Of course I loved getting those private moments and scenes between Miro and Ian.
Oddly the way Mary Calmes writes sweet romance just does it for me when normally I can’t stand it!
The narration was great. I really liked Tristan James voice and the vocal tones and differences he used for each character. He really brought the push/pull between the characters out for me and helped me feel their ache for each other but the fear as well.

I liked this book but did not feel like this couple fit together at all.   This book was a slow burn to me.. Although I do love most slow burns I just did not get enough of Miro and Ian together to believe it.  We get to see  them together as friends for most of the book which is a good build up but by the time we actually get to the part when we see Miro and Ian admit to having feelings for each other it just fell flat for me.  The action in this book kept me on the edge of my sit and Miro had his moments were he made me laugh when he interacted with Ian.  So all together I did like most of this book I just would have liked to have seen more of them together.
