Title: Blood & Thunder (THIRDS #2)
Author Name & Publisher: Charlie Cochet (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: August 4, 2014 – 240 pgs

When a series of bombs go off in a Therian youth center, injuring members of THIRDS Team Destructive Delta, and causing a rift between agents Dexter J. Daley and Sloane Brodie, peace seems unattainable. Especially when a new and frightening group, the Order of Adrasteia, appears to always be a step ahead. With panic and intolerance spreading and streets becoming littered with the Order’s propaganda, hostility between Humans and Therians grows daily. Dex and Sloane, along with the rest of the team, are determined to take down the Order and restore peace, not to mention settle a personal score. But the deeper the team investigates the bombings, the more they believe there’s a more sinister motive than a desire to shed blood and spread chaos.

Discovering the frightful truth behind the Order’s intent forces Sloane to confront secrets from a past he thought he’d left behind for good, a past that could not only destroy him and his career, but also the reputation of the organization that made him all he is today. Now more than ever, Dex and Sloane need each other, and, along with trust, the strength of their bond will mean the difference between justice and all-out war.

I have to say this is a book that o could not put down. I started reading it this morning and finished it tonight. That should tell you something. Blood and Thunder picked up pretty much at the point that Hell & High Water ended. This book was full of action packed adventure. Of course you have your same characters in this book as book 1 did and Dex and Sloane do not let you down. Dex is his still funny, caring, loving, loyal self and Sloane is still trying to move on and get over losing Gabe. Sloane finally starts to realize that he has to make a choice to either let Dex into his life and open up to him about his past and his fears or he has to let him go.

Again Charlie Cochet nailed it with this book because you could feel the fear, the happiness, the loss, the pain and the love the characters feel in this book. You can picture exactly what is happening and you feel as if you are there.

I would recommend this book to readers in a heart beat.

I loved the first book in the THIRDS series, and this one lived up to my expectations. Charlie Cochet tells a story that is suspenseful and dramatic while it’s also funny and sexy.
In this second book of the series she does a great job of delving deeper into Sloane’s mysterious past and showing his struggle with moving forward – both for himself and for a potential relationship with Dex. I love how the alternating perspective between Sloane and Dex allows the reader to see everything from both sides. For me it makes all the aspects of the story richer and more meaningful.
Endings to books in a long series like this can be tricky. The author needs to strike a balance of a satisfying ending while also enticing the reader to keep reading. I think Charlie nails the ending here, and I’m excited for the next one.
All in all, the story and characters are revealed more and more, sucking the reader deeper into the scary, exhilarating, fun and crazy world of THIRDS.
Blood & Thunder picks up right where Hell & High Water ends, you really need to read the books in order to get the full gist of what is going on. While I still thought this book was wordy and too detailed at times, I am either getting used to the authors writing style or just too into the story now that it doesn’t bother me as much. I will have to say there was a scene or two that had me tearing up and my heart constricting. A few things were revealed right at the end of the first book now the mission isn’t just to stop the Order, it’s personal. The back and forth with Dex and Sloane is still going on, we all wonder how much more Dex can take without getting his heart broken. When members of the THIRDS get hurt we see a few glimpses into possible future relationships amongst team members, not that we all didn’t think they would eventually happen. Action packed and full of emotions, this was another good book and I am jumping into the third book today, I have to see what happens next!
This follow-up was better than the first, but only because the stage has been set, so you can just let loose all the laughter, ride the action, and enjoy the camaraderie with the team.
Even though the stage has been set, we still dig into the relationships being evolved. Dex and Sloane are smoking hot together. Although Dex is outgoing, humorous, smart, he is so patient with Sloane. We get to find out why Dex is obsessed with the 80s and it both breaks and melts your heart.
There is more action and nail biting scenes in this book than the first, more depth into the shifting and PTSC. Speaking of shifting, the scene with Dex and Sloane at training just cracked me up. I wondered what Sloane’s payback was for the song incident and well I found out and just couldn’t stop laughing.
Overall, this book has a good balance of hot action…ummm in the streets and in the sheets, laughter (karaoke night and the team’s banter with each other) and romance (I am really intrigued with Cael/Ash and Calvin/Hobbs).  On to the third pronto!
