This was a very different book than what I thought I was going into.. Then again, it had been a long time since I’d read the synopsis for the book so I’d forgotten most of it.
I’ll start with one of my biggest issues being that Jack is transgendered, and everyone just automatically knew or assumed and that was a very weird thing for me since that’s not a normal thing. People don’t think that way, especially if they’ve never met the person they don’t assume that the person is transgendered.
However, beyond that, the story was actually really quite interesting. I liked the chemistry between Eva and Jack and the relationship with Harmonie. While there were some BDSM aspects, I really didn’t feel like the story was a BDSM story since it was more of a controlling lover than submission in my opinion.
There was some mystery and secrets going on, but they were in the background for the most part until toward the end. It almost felt unnecessary, except for that it gave Jack and Eva an excuse to try to run away together… whether they manage to or not, you’ll have to read to find out.
All in all it wasn’t a bad story, but there were aspects that just didn’t work for me.

Revenge is the motivation behind this story or at least for Jag. Sonar is along for the ride.

Jag is hell bent on getting revenge for his husbands murder and thinks that it has been done or at least until it isn’t. When Jag finds out that the person he believes was dead and is not Jag is determined to finish the job and Sonar is the spotter to help him complete this mission.

Jag never expected to fall in love again and definitely never in the midst of finding the revenge for his husbands death but that is what has happened. Sonar is the opposite of Jag. Jag is serious all the time and Sonar brings a light to his life that he has been missing.

The situation is a dangerous one and it may take a turn that neither man expected. One or both may not make it out alive.

I enjoyed reading this book and it has amazing potential. I really wish it had been a series because I think the story would have been best told in a least two separate books but nonetheless it was a good read.

I have skipped around a bit in this series instead of reading it in order but nonetheless I went back and read the few books that I had not read yet in the series.

BA Tortuga is such an amazing author to be able to get into the guys mannerisms the way that she has. When reading this book you can definitely feel this whole cowboy vibe by the way these men act and by the way they talk. They have the southern charm to them and that makes the book so much more enjoyable and believable.

I have to say as far as the characters in this book goes I fell in love with Dillion from the get go. Dillion has been in love with Coke for a while but has always kept it to himself out of fear of bringing tension to their team.

Coke is so hard on himself. He thinks he is to old and to broken to be good enough for someone especially someone as special as Dillion.

Dillion does not give up though and is determined to make Coke realize how good they can be together.

BA Tortuga has the ability to draw the readers in and make them feel like part of the book. I love that about an author. This book can be read as part of the series or it can be read as a standalone. Definitely a good read!!

4 Stars for The Biker’s Omega (Alpha and Omega #1) by Lisa Oliver #MM #Paranormal @wisecrone333

Cover copy

Title: THe Biker’s Omega (Alpha and Omega #1)
Author Name: Lisa Oliver
Publication Date & Length: January 20, 2015 – 143pgs

Synopsis

Marly Miles has been happy in his life as a lone Omega wolf, living and working among the humans of Orlando, Florida. When an attack on him and his friend brings Marly to the notice of the Sergeant of Arms of the Epitaph’s Motorcycle Club, he realizes immediately that the man carries the same scent as his attackers. Not a very good start when the same man is also his mate.

Alpha wolf, Trent Beaumont has spent a lot of years living as a human when he walked away from his home pack. Forced to live as a straight man, because of the Epitaph’s club culture, he walks away from Marly after checking the man is safe. But no wolf, not even an Alpha, can refuse the mating call from the Fates. But with his club President looking over his shoulder, and a woman panting after him to share his bed, Trent isn’t sure it will ever be the right time to claim his own Omega.

Fights, misunderstandings and a lack of communication aren’t the only problems Trent and Marly face. Trent has a history that has clouded his judgment and when Marly gets attacked again, Trent realizes he could lose
his mate permanently, if he doesn’t get his head out of the sand.

Warning: Contains one hot biker, a beautiful twink with a sassy mouth, and a ton of misunderstandings. Graphic m/m sex, violence and strong language.

FourStarsRecently I have became a fan of Lisa Oliver. One of the things that I like most about writing is she does not fallow the path that most authors do. She thinks outside of the box with her books. Much like she did in this book.

What makes her different as an author is that Marley is an omega which is usually a very timid individual. They are considered the heart of a pack but the difference with in this book is that Marley does not do timid. He has lived his life amongst humans so he stands up for himself. He does not shy away like some omegas do. And even though he is a twink and gay, he owns it. He is flamboyant in what he likes to wear and does not care what others think about it. He is happy with his clothing choices and owns it and makes it his own.

Trent, who is the alpha of the pack turns out to be Marley’s mate but I did not like Trent very much. He does not treat Marley well and even though I know some of this stems from being in the closet for so long, that is no excuse. In my opinion Trent should be cherishing Marley because an omega is an individual that makes an alpha stronger.

There is lots of ups and downs in this book but nonetheless it was a great read and I look forward to reading more from Lisa Oliver in the future.

Excerpt

Trent had been waiting hours, freaking hours, for his mate to get home. He had pulled into the apartment block about an hour after he left the club, figuring a shower and a change of clothes was a good idea. But from the scent in the hallway outside of Marly’s apartment door, it seemed he had just missed the little man. Oh, well. Maybe his mate had gone out for food. Four hours later, Trent had to leave his post to get his own food and to take a bathroom break. But in less than thirty minutes, he was back at his post, waiting for Marly to get home. He didn’t remember falling asleep, but being awoken by a mini biker vision in black was more than Trent’s control could handle, especially when Marly smelled of so many different men. The little shit had been clubbing and while Trent wasn’t silly enough to think that Marly had been with anyone else, his wolf’s need to cover the man with his own scent was overwhelming.

Yes, he meant to talk to Marly first – get to know a little bit about the man he was about to become bonded to. Trent wasn’t some crass shifter who fucked first, and then talked after. Not with his mate at least. With most men he had enjoyed in the past it was fuck first and then fuck the talking. But Trent wanted to explain to Marly about his position in the club and what was happening there. He needed to find out about Marly’s pack status and explain his own lack of one. But then the sexy man just had to put a wiggle in his step as he walked passed him and that one little movement shattered what was left of Trent’s resolve, already weakened by his long wait. It had been so long since he had enjoyed a man in his arms, and this one was already deemed perfect for him by the Fates. He didn’t have the strength to argue with that sort of situation.

And right now? With Marly’s mouth open under his, Trent couldn’t think of one goddamn fucking reason why he had wanted to wait at all. The hint of pineapple and cream suggested his mate liked those frou-frou drinks that Trent had never tasted because they looked too girly. The lack of anyone else’s scent on Marly’s tongue meant the man had behaved himself while he was out, and Trent made sure to check, thoroughly, in every crevice and corner of Marly’s mouth.

It wasn’t only Marly’s mouth that was driving Trent insane. Marly’s slim but solid chest was rammed tight between his own and the wall, not a cigarette paper gap between them. Trent moaned as he felt Marly’s cock throbbing behind his jeans, against his own abs, and his Omega’s fingers gripping his shoulders was pure heaven. There was nothing hesitant about Marly – not the way he opened his mouth to accept Trent’s tongue, nor the way he clasped Trent’s shoulders as though the bigger man would try and get away. When Trent felt Marly wrap his lean legs around his waist, opening out that delectable denim covered ass, Trent couldn’t help running his fingers along the seam covered crack. Marly’s full body shiver and the way he pressed even closer into Trent’s chest was proof his mate was as eager for their mating as he was.

His cock threatening the construction of his zipper, Trent was on the verge of coming in his pants and that just would not do. Wrenching his lips from his mate’s enticing mouth, Trent looked down to see Marly’s bright blue eyes were now the shade of a stormy sea.

“Bedroom,” he said roughly. “Or I swear I’ll take you right here, right now.”

Marly blinked for a few moments and Trent wasn’t sure if the man was thinking about his options, or just trying to get his brain to function.

“Through there,” Marly said finally, his voice almost a whisper, pointing over Trent’s back.

Holding onto Marly tightly, unwilling to let him go for even a second, Trent spun around, spying a door set in the opposite wall. Noting it was the only door in the room, Trent figured he had to be on the right track and he covered the distance from one wall to the other in just five long strides. Thank god his little mate didn’t live in a mansion or he might have been forced to mate with the man on the stairs. Continue reading

Book nine in this series was a good read and I like that Jenna took it a little further by bringing in a teacher as a main character and not mention Fahey’s son as a supporting character.

With the new drug going around Con’s school this leads to Fahey meeting Reilly. Reilly is one on Con’s teacher and helps how he can to take down those individuals that are distributing drugs at the school.

Fahey and Reilly come together under not so great circumstances with the drug problem but their chemistry is off the charts.

I also like how Con was honest about his own sexuality and that Fahey would do whatever necessary to help his son to deal with the outcome.

Great read!!

I liked this book in the Kansas City Heat series the best so far. Warning to triggers should be added because of the fact that is write around rape but not there is not detailed information about rape. Just a caution in case that is not the type of book for you.

I really like that Jenna Byrnes made the two main characters so different but both are on the same side of thinking, even if their approach to it different.

Jeff is one of those people that says what he means and means what he says. He is straightforward and does not play games. He is that type of person in both his work and his private life. As far as his private life is concerned he does not like anyone knowing his business and that becomes a major issue for him and Reese becaus after they meet and start hooking up information that should not be made public is and information that should be only between the two of them is making its way out into the world.

Jeff starts to distrust Reese and starts to think he is the one that is betraying him and making not only their personal life harder but also Jeff’s job.

I really enjoy reading a book with couple issues with trust. It makes the read more believable then the books where couples meet, fall in love, and live happily ever after. The only thing I wish is this book would have been a little longer.

This is the second book in the Kansas City Heat series and I did enjoy it. It is a good series and I think many will think so.

I loved Nick and I love the connection that he has with Rob and the element of mystery to the book with the home invasion and looking for stolen goods. I also like the element of one of the main characters having secrets from the other because that puts more of a spin on things when one of the main characters second guesses the other because of not knowing them as well as they should.

What I would have liked to see in this book in the series is that there would have been more of a challenge in the two men getting together because if each book has the main characters falling in love almost instantly then it is going to make the books to predictable to want to read.

Other then that this is another good book to the series and I look forward to seeing how the next book will turn out.

4 Star Review for Ravel: A Ripples in the Status Quo Story (#2) by R. Phoenix #MM #Paranormal @RaissaPhoenix

CoverTitle: Ravel: A Ripples in the Status Quo Story (#2)
Author Name & Publisher: R. Phoenix (Phoenix Publications)
Publication Date & Length: April 1, 2016 – 81 pgs

Synopsis

Revised & expanded edition as of 3/22/16. Please note that content, publisher, and other aspects of the work have changed.

For the past few years, Reese has hidden away in his home, refusing to venture out where he might have to face what reminds him of all that he’s lost. When Ashton, a human thief, breaks into his home one night, he doesn’t have a choice but to face the harsh truths of the world he’s turned his back on. He knows he supports the society monsters of myth and lore built upon the backs of humans through his silence, but the new leaders don’t tolerate sympathizers.

If a werewolf can’t act against the status quo without facing severe consequences, a human with Ashton’s cunning and experience circumventing supernatural predators certainly can’t risk drawing their attention. Their chance encounter leaves them both shaken and questioning whether they are living life as they were intended—or if surviving is really living at all.

Ravel is approximately 23,600 words (excluding front/back matter).

###

The Ripples in the Status Quo works are set within a world where supernatural beings seized control from humans and relegated them to the bottom of the food chain. Used for food, entertainment, and worse, nothing protects them from the hands of those who claim them as slaves. But not everyone adheres to the status quo the world at large has accepted…

Please note that the RISQ world has little place for humanity–and the author’s idea of romance may not match yours. As such, there are no guarantees of happily ever afters, and content may be offensive to some readers.

I have to say that I liked this novella better than the previous one, but I still didn’t quite get how they all connected except for that they were happening in the same world the author had made up. Again I felt like the story wasn’t complete, but it was more complete than the first one felt so I felt it was a step up, but I still felt like the whole story of Reese and his passed lover wasn’t fully told.
However, I have to say that I once again enjoyed the world that was built and the writers way of writing so I can’t wait to see how she grows with the rest of the series.

Sunny is an agent with lots of secrets and she’s certainly not sharing them with her NYPD partner.  When she meets dancer Pamela and they share a smoking hot night together she could never imagine how complicated things are about to become.  And they are certainly complicated! For the first third of the book I was unsure what I was going to make of this story but once it began to unravel I really enjoyed it and could see where C E Case was going with it.  There are a lot of very dodgy people involved and I wasn’t sure that the supposed good guys were really the good guys at all.  Sunny was so mysterious that I was never really sure who she was and Pamela was naive to the extreme.  They made a great couple though and I was really rooting for them all the way through.  Sunny was relentless in her quest and I liked that about her.  She was willing to break the rules and do whatever it took for Pamela.  There is certainly another book in this story and I hope that C E Case has plans to keep it going. It was well thought out and kept me interested, especially as things began to heat up in the last few chapters.  A good read

Review

FourStarsI’m not sure I can say much about this book. Dutton again has a well-written, tightly plotted, character driven romance, so in that way I can definitely say this is a good book. However, I was reluctant to keep reading once I started. Most of us have that first love who, in the sublime discovery of passion, sex, and deep emotion, we’ve given all of ourselves to. And again, most of us have parted ways, for one reason or another, from that first love. We leave those relationships missing a piece of ourselves, a piece that changes us forever. It changes the way we love, and how much we put into the next relationship. And to read about these two people, who each still had pieces of the other, made me a bit melancholy. To read about how they each hurt the other, each hurt for the other, and still after all this time cared so much about each other, it makes the heart sore for all the time together that they missed out on. So this book took me a lot longer than usual to finish. Because Jacq and Casey both needed the time apart to grow into people who could change enough to fit back together. And while the results were everything you could wish for, it was still hard to watch them go through it.
