Welcome to the world of Bay West Social.

Twenty-something Meg McTiernan is all about her career when her house hunt unexpectedly lands her at Bay West—a lesbian mecca tucked away in the suburbs of NYC—and her social life is given a turbo boost. There’s a pool, a softball league, even a nightclub practically in her backyard. In this loaded environment, finding the right girl just got a lot more interesting.

Case in point: law student Lexi Russo grew up at Bay West and is about to start an internship at the law firm of another local, self-assured, sexy Jesse Ducane. Lexi’s had a crush on Jesse forever, but Jesse’s the one Bay West woman she can’t possibly have. And not just because she’s her boss.

Together, new friends Meg and Lexi navigate romances, fun flirtations, juicy gossip, tons of drama, and maybe just the right amount of true love.

After a bad break up Meg moved to Bay West, a lesbian community in Staten Island. This is the perfect place for a new start, amongst like-minded women. A great social life beckons and Meg slowly becomes involved and makes friends, with the help of her cute next-door neighbour Lexi. Lexi is a new intern at Jesse’s law firm and has a secret crush on her boss.
The book tells the story of a large group of ladies, young, old, married, single. There are also families in the community. I found the descriptions of the development wonderful, Staten Island itself and the lives lead by the various women we meet fascinating. Lexi was a lovely character, sweet and young and full of insecurities. Her feelings for Jesse were so powerful, I wanted them to make it! Jesse was not the ice queen I first thought and I really grew to like her.
The steamy scenes were very well written and so hot! They were true and a natural part of the character’s stories.
I am so glad that this is the first in a series set in Staten island. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and am desperate to find out more about Jesse, Lexi, Meg and their friends.

I did enjoy reading this novel and it was well written. However I did find it a little one dimensional and predictable. Personally I would have liked more of a story line, perhaps expanding on the case of the wrongly accused detective. As it was it was more like a well presented light look at life in a lesbian community.
I felt at times the story was spread over too many characters and this led to me becoming a bit complacent and wishing that they would eventually reach their foreseeable outcome.
As for as further novels by Ms Cummings I will be looking out for them due to her obvious writing abilities.
I’ll admit right away that I tend not to read books that have a big cast of characters. It seems to me that having too many characters in a book can cause the author to spread the focus too thin, not giving each character the attention they deserve. It can also make the author try to do too much within the story, and sometimes the result is chaotic and busy. This story followed the lives of a few people in this community. There are two that I was rooting for rather heavily, but of course I really wanted everyone that I liked to end up happy. And that just isn’t possible in a story like this. The author made a really good decision by not trying to give everybody a happy ever after. And it was okay. You really want the main character, Meg, to find the love of her life, and it hasn’t happened yet. But the book ends with possibility and hope for her, which again is a good choice from the author. There were times when I lost track of who was who, because it was such a large social scene. But it wasn’t too bad, and the story quickly came back to the few that were truly integral. I really enjoyed the book, and definitely would recommend it.
