Set in the small cathedral city of Salisbury, Master Chef Lewis Mandineau no longer owns the Laurels, the restaurant that had been in his family for generations. Betrayed and robbed by an ex-lover, he’s had to sell to Trelawney Enterprises, an American corporation. That isn’t all Lewis has to contend with. Rachel, his beloved younger sister has been left severely hurt by the car crash that killed their parents, and taking care of her has to be his priority.

Enter Devon Trelawney III, sent to assess the viability of the restaurant and its staff. Devon knows all about family tradition. But he also knows sentiment has no place in business matters, and the Laurels’ potential is swamped by the debts it has accrued. Devon is a hardheaded businessman, first and foremost, but Lewis and Rachel test his resolve in different ways. Soon Devon is forced to admit that what seems like an impossible love can sometimes become something very real.

FiveStars

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was full of mystery, resentment, lust, sadness, loss, happiness, and love. It was an all around wonderful book.

I enjoyed reading this book because it hit to the heart of things. It dealt with mental illness, it dealt with head injuries, with the loss of family, with the loss of home and company, it dealt with having to overcome selling the company and having to live with the choices of of selling and repaying off debt from the the ex stealing from the company. It is a very realistic book in ways that things that happened to thee the these people really happen in real life. This book has so many real life experiences in it that it was hard to forget that it was only a story.

I also love how two people who originally started out hating each other turned that passion into so much more between them. And that even when bad things were happening around them they stuck together and was straight no for one another.

This is an amazing story of overcoming heartache and learning to move past the bad to get to the good. I enjoyed it immensely and would recommend it to other people to read. Cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

I really love when authors I love team up together, it makes for a really good book. Lewis was sweet and amazing in everything he did. The love he had for his sister Rachel was inspiring. It took me a little while to warm up to Devon because he was a total jerk in the beginning. I loved the conflict between Lewis and Devon as it made for a really interesting story. It also has a little mystery in the book as the fire department is looking for an arsonist. Lewis did not hesitate to take on Devon when he felt he was screwing up. I loved the reaction Devon had when Rachel was teaching how to load the dishwasher. The secondary characters were also amazing and I loved Gran-Em, who looked after Rachel.  Overall, this was an excellent book and I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

Chris Quinton

Chris started creating stories not long after she mastered joined-up writing, somewhat to the bemusement of her parents and her English teachers. But she received plenty of encouragement. Her dad gave her an already old Everest typewriter when she was about ten, and it was probably the best gift she’d ever received – until the inventions of the home-computer and the worldwide web.

Chris’s reading and writing interests range from historical, mystery, and paranormal, to science-fiction and fantasy, mostly in the male/male genre. She also writes male/female novels in the name of Chris Power. She refuses to be pigeon-holed and intends to uphold the long and honourable tradition of the Eccentric Brit to the best of her ability. In her spare time [hah!] she reads, embroiders, quilts and knits. In the past she has been a part-time and unpaid amateur archaeologist, and a 15th century re-enactor.

She currently lives in a small and ancient city in the south-west of the United Kingdom, sharing her usually chaotic home with an extended family, two large dogs, fancy mice, sundry goldfish and a young frilled dragon (Australian lizard) aka Trogdorina.
