Title: Beloved Unmasked (Tarnished #3)
Author Name & Publisher: Brita Addams (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: October 16, 2015 – 276 pgs
Born in 1898 to a heartless prostitute in Storyville, the red-light district of New Orleans, David comes into the world as Picayune, a name meaning “of little value” or as his mother reminds him, “nothing.”
In the early 20th century brothels and clubs, his love of music sustains young Pic until a fortuitous meeting places him on the road to respectability, and Pic reinvents himself as David Reid.
As David realizes happiness for the first time, conscription forces his friend and first love, Spencer Webb, into the Great War. A telegram from the War Department deals a staggering blow and interrupts David’s pursuit of a law degree. He must gather his wits and move forward. While his future looks bright, specters from Storyville return.
The past holds both pain and love, and facing it head-on might destroy David or give him the freedom to live the life he has dreamed.
This book was so different than anything I have ever read before..
So pic was born to a woman who worked as a prostitute. Well this woman was horrible and the way she treated Pic was just there are no words for just how evil these woman was. Well Pic wants a better life than what he has been given so far. So he changes his name and goes to school to better himself while not forgetting where he came from and the people he loves like Spencer.
Well Spencer ends up going to war which happened a lot back then. I have to say the way the author portrayed this part and the feelings of being called to war when you did not want to go. The fear and the courage it took go and fight for your country. I just loved how the author pulled you into this book and the way you felt what these characters were going through.
I don’t want to give away to much of this story because this is definitely one you need to read for yourself.
I will say the author made me feel like I was back in the roaring 20’s and I was so happy for David with how well he did through the hard times and the heartaches to get to his happy times. I also want to say I hope Emile gets a book because I loved his character too and he deserves a HEA even though back then it was hard to come by. So you get your angst with this book but you also get your sweet plus the build up to it with this story will grab you and have you on the edge of your seat hoping for the best for these characters!
All together I really loved this book!
I would definitely recommend this book!
Born in a small town in upstate New York, Brita Addams has made her home in the sultry south for many years. In the Frog Capital of the World, Brita shares her home with her real-life hero—her husband, and a fat cat named Stormee. All their children are grown.

A bit of trivia—Brita pronounces her name, Bree-ta, and not Brit-a, like the famous water filter. Brita Addams is a mash-up of her real middle name and her husband’s middle name, with an additional d and s.
