After his parents kicked him out for being gay, Marc Villegas lived on the streets before getting a second chance. Now he’s giving back by working at a shelter for LGBT teenagers—because helping fight their demons keeps his own at bay. Including his infatuation with the former best friend he’s sure is straight.

Anthony Romano hasn’t seen Marc since Marc left home eight years ago. In his confidant’s absence, Anthony turned to heroin. Now at rock bottom, he has an offer from Marc to help him get clean. Detox is hard and ugly, but not as hard as admitting the truth: he’s in love with Marc. Always has been.

Marc swore he’d never date an addict, but he never dreamed the one in question would be the man he’s always wanted to be with. As the two explore their feelings for each other, Marc faces a difficult choice. Say yes, and it could cost him his sobriety; say no, and it could cost him his heart.

FiveStarsI have to say that this book kept me up late last night reading it. Once I started it, I could not put it down. It was such an incredible story about two men’s fight from hitting rock bottom and having to slowly climb their way back out of the pits of hell.

Marc is part of the team of directors that opened and runs a homeless shelter for homeless teenagers. He has put everything into doing this and trying to help and make a difference in gay children’s lives. He knows the feelings of hopelessness, and fear, and addiction, and powerlessness. He has personally dealt with all of those things and more when he was kicked out at the age of 16 years old for being gay. He did what he had to in order to survive and to help deal with the pain. Someone helped him to get help and kick his habit and now he is trying to do the same. He is going along with everything that he and others have done to make this dream come true and then one day his life is turned upside down when his childhood best friend’s sister shows up at his door step begging for help.

Anthony had an amazing future planned out and right within his grasp when his world was turned upside down the night Marc was kicked out of his home and Anthony’s own family turned away his best friend Marc and left him to fend for himself in the cruel big bad world as a child. Once his world was taken from him, Anthony could not deal with the loss and heartache he felt not having Marc in his life. He was his best friend and the only person he has been in love with. Anthony turned to drugs and has let it completely take over his life.

Marc finds and Anthony and offers to help him and to start over and get to know each other again as adults and maybe have a chance to love each other again. Anthony has to get himself clean and not go back to that kind of life and Marc has to fight to not temptation take him back down that road again. These two have to go through an emotionally and physically hard trip to get to where they could begin to be happy together and build a life. They have to fight to have the future they both deserve and they have to hold on to one another to find the love they both very much feel.

This was an incredible read and very emotionally impacted. I could not put it down and could not wait to find out what was going to happen. AM Arthur did another amazing job on another book!!! Cannot wait for the next in the series to come out.

This was the second book in this series and I’m a little at a loss as to where to start my review. First although this book was good it certainly did not live up to Ms. Arthur other books that I’ve read. I just could not see the connection between Marc and Anthony. There were struggles that both men had to overcome but the connection just did not seem to be there. Thus book was however a great description on what LBGT teens have to face, especially when they are kick out of their home. I loved seeing how anyone who is LGBT is able to overcome the adversity that they are faced with and able to lead a productive life.

No stranger to the writing world, A.M. Arthur has been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long. She credits an early fascination with male friendships and “bromance” (and “The Young Riders”) with her later discovery of and subsequent affair with m/m romance stories. When not writing, she can be found in her kitchen, pretending she’s an amateur chef and trying to not poison herself or others with her cuisine experiments.
