It takes valor to support and love those who need it the most and never expected to receive it.

For Rivet Scalzo, returning to his childhood home after a decade and a half was not on his list of places to go while recuperating. After nearly being blown up on a mission, Rivet is forced to deal with his PTSD and sudden deafness without help from Vigilance, the secret governmental agency he works for. He resigned himself to a lonely recovery, but then, perhaps by chance, he met Blare Chaplynn, a model whose caring nature helps ease the horror of Rivet’s home life. As they grow closer, Rivet is burdened by the secrets he can’t share with the one man he grows to love.

If Blare knew a mild concussion was all he needed to meet the man of his dreams, he would have gladly accepted it long ago. He knew there was something special about Rivet when he first saw him at the park, but never guessed this man of mystery would be hiding so many secrets close to his heart. Blare is forced to confront the fact that Rivet may never tell him everything, but is trust the reason Rivet is so close-lipped or is it something more?

It is only a matter of time before the relationship falls apart or secrets are revealed.

This is really an extremely sad tale.

Rivet has some major secrets that because of his clearance he cannot discuss with anyone except the ones who have the same secret clearance as him or higher. In many ways I think Rivet is looking for love and acceptance. His mother and sister are horrible and treat him even worse then if he were dirt on the bottom of their shoes. Even so he still tries with them and they always throw it back in his face. They are abusive and border line crazy. But the thing is, Rivet does not turn the tables on them. Instead he takes the punishment they both dole out on him and tries to move on and hide the abuse from the world.

Blair is a breath of fresh air for Rivet. He accepts him almost instantly flaws, secrets, and all. And even though Rivet trusts Blair completely he is still not allowed to open up about the things that weigh on his heart and mind. Finally there is a breaking point and Rivet is allowed to let Blait in completely. The question that remains is will it change how Blair feels about Rivet or will it bring them closer? Can they move past Rivets past or will it tear them apart.

This was a very interesting read. Some parts were really hard to read about but the tragic events in Rivets life led him to where he is now and has shaped him into the man he is.

There definitely needs to be a warning about triggers for abuse, rape, and emotional abuse.
