Title: Blood & Thunder (THIRDS #2)
Author Name & Publisher: Charlie Cochet (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: August 4, 2014 – 240 pgs
When a series of bombs go off in a Therian youth center, injuring members of THIRDS Team Destructive Delta, and causing a rift between agents Dexter J. Daley and Sloane Brodie, peace seems unattainable. Especially when a new and frightening group, the Order of Adrasteia, appears to always be a step ahead. With panic and intolerance spreading and streets becoming littered with the Order’s propaganda, hostility between Humans and Therians grows daily. Dex and Sloane, along with the rest of the team, are determined to take down the Order and restore peace, not to mention settle a personal score. But the deeper the team investigates the bombings, the more they believe there’s a more sinister motive than a desire to shed blood and spread chaos.
Discovering the frightful truth behind the Order’s intent forces Sloane to confront secrets from a past he thought he’d left behind for good, a past that could not only destroy him and his career, but also the reputation of the organization that made him all he is today. Now more than ever, Dex and Sloane need each other, and, along with trust, the strength of their bond will mean the difference between justice and all-out war.
Dex and Sloane are slowly becoming true partners – both at THIRDS and at home. It isn’t an easy relationship and there certainly isn’t any quick HEA for the pair, but the heat between the two has built to a blaze by this second book. Who doesn’t love a pair of sexy alpha military men – especially when one can turn into a Jaguar? Dex is less annoying than he was at the start of the first book. Belonging to the team seems to ground him. I loved seeing his strengths rather than his attention seeking in this second story.
I really enjoyed Sloane’s. Destructive Delta does everything together, but after years of secrets, Sloane has to confront his past on his own. I loved getting to know more about Sloane after the first book gave us so much of Dex.
I love the humour in these books. While this is a bit more serious at times, it is the wonderful incidents of silly banter in moments of extreme tension that makes this series special.
This isn’t a stand alone story. The full series needs to be read in order. I certainly wasn’t able to stop reading once I’d started.
