This book just gave me the feels. I cried a few times too. Jeff has been hiding the fact that he is gay for years, unbeknownst to him, everyone seemed to know, and they just never said anything. When Jeff goes to see his boyfriend of 10 years one weekend he finds out that once again he has been cheated on and he is finally done and walks out. Cameron is one of Jeff’s patient’s great grandsons and he is such a sweetheart. There is no way you can’t love Cameron. These two hit it off instantly and it is a sweet love story with a little angst and a little drama. I loved Cameron and Jeff and I hope we get to see glimpses of them in future books in the series.

I really enjoy how Sue Brown writes. I have enjoyed almost everything I’ve read by her.  This was no different.  While it wasn’t my favorite of hers, I still enjoyed the story a ton.

Let’s begin with Jeff.  He is loving working as a rural doctor.  He has no aspirations to move to the city, doesn’t want to give up knowing all of his patients and the small community that he has come to love.  But, traveling back and forth to his boyfriend, Tris is becoming more and more difficult.  This is made so very clear when Jeff drives the long distance to stay with Tris and learns of his boyfriend of 10 years has been cheating on him.  It’s sad and tragic for Jeff.  He’s heart broken, but not beaten.

I love Helen – she was probably one of my favorite characters in this story.  I love how she is a take no names woman who loves her independence, but isn’t so stubborn as to want to injure herself purposefully.

Then you have Cameron.  He loves his grandma and wants to be able to take care of her.  He also has some seriously awesome friends.  I love how welcoming they were to Jeff.  I also love how Cameron was able to help Jeff get past his relationship with Tris.

One of the gripes I have with this story is how quickly the past 10 year relationship was resolved.  I don’t know why, but I was expecting more angst surrounding that split – not necessarily wanting it, but thinking it should have been there.  The fact that Jeff so quickly moved on without looking back, really, was somewhat strange and made the book seem a little rushed.

However, the relationship and misunderstandings that came in this story were realistic and gave me enough worry that things would go wonky.

Overall, this was a great story and I really, really, really hope that Liam or the therapist gets the next story!
