Title: Something Shattered
Author Name & Publisher: Bailey Bradford (Pride Publishing)
Publication Date & Length: November 24, 2015 – 200 pgs
When something inside him is shattered by an act of violence, Caleb Tomas doesn’t think he can ever be whole again.
Police Officer Jesse Martin has lived in the small town of El Jardin, New Mexico, for a decade, but he’s never seen anything like the mysterious man who moves in in the middle of the night. The house across the street from Jesse’s trailer is no longer empty. There’s a puzzle waiting to be solved there, in the form of one sexy, but decidedly different, man.
Bruised and battered inside and out, Caleb Tomas flees to the town of El Jardin in the hopes of escaping the terror that haunts him. Instead, he becomes more of a recluse, scared of everything, unable to get more than a dozen feet past his porch before he panics. His head’s a mess, and he knows he needs help, but that’s a step he doesn’t want to take. It’s easier, safer, to stay hidden away with only his adorable puppy, Loopy, and the bird-murdering cat, Mix, for companionship.
But Caleb can’t help but notice the sexy man across the street, and when Loopy escapes from the back yard, it’s Jesse Martin who comes to the rescue.
And he might save more than one bouncy little poodle, if Caleb and Jesse are willing to take the risk.
Reader Advisory: This book contains references to physical assault.
Publisher’s Note: This book was previously released elsewhere. It has been revised and re-edited for re-release with Pride Publishing.
Jesse is a cop who lives across the street from Tomas who is his new neighbor. He has taken a interest in him due to a attraction he has for him but also because Tomas is such a recluse who never leaves his house which leaves Jesse wondering what is going on with Tomas.
Something horrible happened to Tomas which causes him to move to a new house which he can not leave due to his fear that keeps him inside after what happened to him. He notices his neighbor Jesse but is afraid at the same time so he keeps to himself until Jesse comes knocking at his door with his lost dog.
I felt so bad for Tomas but I was also glad he found Jesse who helps him slowly break out of his shell and helps him with his fear of pretty much everything. Which I do not blame Tomas at all for having those feelings after what had happened to him.
Also this is a warning when you read what happened to Tomas it might be hard for some read to read.. I know I had a hard time reading it. It was honestly just so sad and horrible that happened to him.
I really loved the way this author handled this story and the way she wrote these two characters!
You do get your angst with this book and steam between these two men too! You also meet a few different characters which some you will like. Like Tomas’s sister and her family. Then there were some of Jesse’s co-workers you will end up not liking at all.
All together I really loved this story!
I would recommend this book!
Bailey Bradford is not a new author for me and I have always enjoyed her books and this one was no different. From the beginning I felt that soft place in my heart just wanting to tear-up everything Caleb tried to leave his house. I loved Jesse but then I always loved men-in-uniform and then my heart just wanted to break when we discovered why Caleb has an adjustment disorder. I felt the connection with Caleb immediately and Jesse wasn’t far behind. My biggest issue is there is so much that happens off page and some of these are details that need to be on page.
I am a married mom of four who spends most of the day writing, either on stories or at the blog. I love to write as much as I love to read. I am generally quiet and laid back, choosing to let things slide off me rather than stick and irritate me.
And it’s really hard trying to think of descriptives for myself, so I’ll just let y’all e-mail me or comment at the blog if there’s something specific you’d like to know, and spare you from reading a boring bio:D
