Since a mugging a year ago, Ben’s lived with blindness. Despite an art career on hold and a deadbeat boyfriend who left him because of his disability, he’s finally getting his life back on track. Ben is gaining a new sense of independence thanks to his guide dog, Colt.

But Ben’s carefully balanced life is thrown into chaos when veterinarian Dr. Jay Connor hits Colt with his car. While Colt is on the mend and recovering nicely, Ben finds that Jay is not only fond of Colt, but also quite interested in Ben.

However, one overheard conversation might put a stop to their romance before it can grow into something more. Maybe Ben’s destined to go it alone in the dark. Or can Jay help him see there’s still a chance for happily ever after?

Ben and Colt are quite the pair. I love how Ben trusts Colt to get him and protect him.  While I wished that I knew more about how Ben was hurt and feeling about everything, in such a short amount of space, I understand why Lynn was not able to do that.  Ben’s insecurities sometimes plague his mind, but the inner struggle that he goes through is one that I found to be profound and necessary.  I liked how Lynn was able to take his past and meld it well with his present – that despite his previous stupid boyfriend, Ben wanted to trust again, he wanted that connection.  This was more a story about trust and romance than it was about finding true love.

Then you have Jay.  I really enjoyed his character.  He was persistent without being pushy, patient without allowing Ben to wallow too long.  His dates were very creative and I loved how he was able to relate to Ben in a way that made Ben comfortable.  He tried not to make him seem like an invalid which was so important in this story.

Finally you have Darcy, Ben’s best friend whom I loved dearly because she did not let Ben hide away.  I loved how she pushed and prodded until Ben was able to see through her eyes and Jay’s eyes, whom they truly saw.  It wasn’t his disability – it was him.

Together, these characters create a story of new love, letting go of the past and finding true happiness.

Lynn’s work features LGBT characters, many of whom are in established relationships and show how love perseveres through every trial and tribulation that life holds. She also has a particular interest in seeing transgender characters gain a larger foothold within the LGBT fiction genre, hoping that the market for these works expand in the future.
