Calliph and Mateo are back! The peace of the shifter pair’s calm, quiet life, is shattered by a visit from one of Calliph’s old pack members. Calliph must travel to the town of his birth, Naolassel, to speak on behalf of his twin brother, Rupos, who has been charged with murder. But Calliph’s decision will endanger his beloved kitten…not to mention their relationship. Can Mateo reconcile with who Calliph was–and what he did–during the war, or is the truth of his wolf too much to bear?

Even though two people have been together and are soul mates, we all still have our secrets. Some big, some small, some that will hurt others, and some of us hurting. That in my opinion is what this story is truly about.
I believe that this story is about loving, forgiving the one you love and forgiving and loving yourself. It is about sharing the past hurts and allowing your partner to share in the burden of the past. It is about loving your brother no matter how horrible the things he did. It is about letting go of the past so you are able to move on in the future.
That is exactly what Calliph had to do. He had to learn to let go and Mateo proved to him that he accepted him and loved him in spite of the things he did in his past. Calliph was able to open up to Mateo and allow Mateo to help him carry the burdens he feels and Mateo was able to help Calliph to accept that even though Rofus was not a good person, he still loved his brother in spite of it.
This was a good read and very sad at he same time. Enduring Calliphs past in this book was heartbreaking but I am glad that Mateo stood at his side and did not hold it against him and showed him he was worthy of love regardless of what he may or may not have done.
