Review

FourStars

This book is about a Siamese cat that turns into a hot young man when kissed on its widdle nose. And that is fantastic. There’s a lot of cat behavior for humor’s sake–an ongoing obsession with tuna, watching the toilet flush over and over, chasing the seagulls. Cute, right?
But this book has a serious side, and it produces a lot of feels. Said cat is a Civil War veteran, and suffers from it, not to mention from being out of time/place (see: title). The issues that arise from this kind of magic are–well, maybe not realistic–but compelling, and fraught, and sad.
Then there’s a lot of plot that qualifies this as your standard shifter story!
Would you rather be a cat, if it meant leaving behind pain? Living free and catching mice and lying in sunlight?
