Rhen makes his living two ways: performing card tricks for passing crowds, and thievery. Every four years, Vis-a-Vis, a four day festival, celebrates life and happiness, where all classes can be equal behind their masks. It’s a prime opportunity for thieves, but Rhen’s plans change when Lelan, his former lover, says they need to talk.
Though still feeling bitter with Lelan for leaving him, Rhen agrees, because if there’s one thing he’s good at, it’s playing the odds.
This was an interesting little read. I really enjoyed the world that was built and the event that was being ‘attended’. There was quite the story wrapped up in the few pages the story was on. I can say that I did wish a bit more for a prologue of sorts or something to show the relationship that our characters had before everything in the past had gone down.
I really enjoyed the way it was written and how the reader was pulled into this fantastical setting. It’s different, yet fun and just great fun to read.
This was my first book by this author, but I would gladly pick up another one!
