Title: Devotion (Forbes Mates #1)
Author Name & Publisher: Grace R. Duncan (Dreamspinner Press)
Publication Date & Length: September 11, 2015 – 220 pgs

Will Tanner realize he’s wrong and claim his mate before Finley’s devotion is gone?

Finley Cooper is tired of waiting for his destined mate to be ready to claim him. In deference to human laws, he’s already agreed to wait until he’s eighteen. But now his birthday has come and gone—and his mate has a new set of excuses. Finley doesn’t understand it any more than his wolf does, and he’s beginning to wonder if fate made a mistake.

Tanner Pearce wants nothing more than to claim his mate, but he worries that Finley is too young. Tanner will never forget what happened when his best friend mated at Finley’s age, only to have that mate end up feeling trapped and breaking their bond. While rare, it can happen, and the fallout Tanner witnessed as his best friend tried to deal with the break has haunted him for years.

When Finley finally has enough, he threatens to find someone who will claim him if Tanner doesn’t, and Tanner realizes he needs to come to terms with his fears or risk losing his mate forever.

FourandHalfStarsFinley and Tanner have a unique relationship.  Despite knowing they are destined mates, the older, next alpha, Tanner, is hesitant to claim Finley, worried that if he claims him too early, they will end up apart.

While Finley has been trying to get Tanner to claim him, he has also struggled with the idea that perhaps Tanner just doesn’t want to claim him.  Duncan wrote in a manner that I was able to feel Finley’s disappointments, his deep desire to be claimed and his hopelessness when Tanner refuses, yet again.

Duncan did a great job showing me how things were before they had met, after they had met and throughout their phase apart.  I really felt like I got to know both characters well and knew where they were each coming from.

This story was about coming of age, learning to love and knowing when/how to push someone into becoming who they are supposed to be.

The devotion in their story was beyond and shifter fans will enjoy this story.

I can’t wait for Jaime’s story!!!

So, we have a wolf Alpha who has been waiting for his younger mate to grow up before claiming him and it’s tearing their fragile bond apart. Tanner was only 16 when Finley met him. Finley was already in his twenties.
At first I didn’t know how to feel about this book. Still don’t but I’m giving it a 3.5 cause I gave it another chance and ended up liking some of it. It was really sweet and fluffy, though I kinda wished Tanner ended up with Jamie. lol.
I don’t like reading books about cheating, and this isn’t one…kinda. Just a warning to other readers that there’s a scene in the book that I frowned upon. I got that Tanner was upset with Finley for not claiming him, but I didn’t like it when he did…stuff with Jamie. It kinda ruined my mood for the book. I want Jamie’s story, I felt like he got the short end of the stick.
I’d recommend reading this book though.

Grace Duncan grew up with a wild imagination. She told stories from an early age – many of which got her into trouble. Eventually, she learned to channel that imagination into less troublesome areas, including fanfiction, which is what has led her to writing male/male erotica.

A gypsy in her own right, Grace has lived all over the United States. She has currently set up camp in East Texas with her husband and children – both the human and furry kind.

As one of those rare creatures who loves research, Grace can get lost for hours on the internet, reading up on any number of strange and different topics. She can also be found writing fanfiction, reading fantasy, crime, suspense, romance and other erotica or even dabbling in art.
