Tremors are a part of everyday life in big Alaska.

Bush pilot, Xavier Markovic, goes with nature’s flow and loves it. He guides guests through Denali National Park to show off his beloved state. Until health issues arise for his mentor, Daniel Chevalier, and Xavier flies him to the hospital.

An almost fatal tumble down a mountain ends Devin Chevalier’s professional mountain biking career and brings him to a crossroads. Learning his grandfather is ill, he makes a rash decision. Uprooting his life for a chance to meet Daniel, he crosses paths with a brash Alaskan.

Alaska throws them another surprise in the form of a huge earthquake. Differences put aside while they struggle to survive.

ThreeStarI was looking forward to reading this, as it looked like an enemies-to-lovers story; that’s a trope I love. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite deliver.

This was an okay story, as romances go, and it was overall nice. But that’s about it. There wasn’t much to be excited about, and it didn’t feel especially original. There were a lot of standard romance cliches, including instant love. A lot of it read like pages out of an Alaska guide book. Even the sex scene was disappointing. There was really no need to educate readers (incorrectly) on top-bottom-neither power dynamics in the middle of their intimacy. It really drew me out of the moment.

The story really picked up with the earthquake, and that was the best-written part. It was really intense seeing Devin’s reaction as an outsider. If it had come into play sooner, the story would have been much faster paced and interesting.

I think in reality, I’m probably not the target audience for this story.

Ever the quiet one growing up, Nicole Dennis often slid away from reality and curled up with a book to slip into the worlds of her favorite authors. Over the years, she’s created a personal library full of novels filled with dragons, fairies, vampires, shapeshifters of all kinds and romance. Always she returned to romance. Still, there were these characters in her head, worlds wanting to be built on paper, and stories wanting to be told and she began writing them down whether during or after class. She continues to this day. Only recently has it begun to become fruitful, spreading out to let others read and enter her worlds, meet her characters, and see what she sees. No matter what she writes, her stories of romance with their twists of paranormal, fantasy and erotica will always have their Happily Ever Afters.

She currently works in a quiet office in Central Florida, where she also makes her home, and enjoys the down time to slip into her characters and worlds to escape reality from time to time. At home, she becomes human slave to a semi-demonic tortie calico.
