Some paths lead to an early grave.

A power failure on the midnight train from Innsbruck to Vienna has stranded Felix in the middle of nowhere. It’s not a good start to his getaway, but it’s made worse by the presence of a fellow passenger who won’t stop sizing him up.

With his few belongings thrust into a backpack, Felix wants nothing more than to get to the airport and fly home to London. Whatever he does after that can’t be any worse than staying in a failing, rancorous relationship. But Felix has always been a magnet for dangerous men and the handsome stranger who keeps eyeballing him isn’t so easy to ignore.

As the world itself seems to spin on a dime, Felix follows his admirer deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole, until retracing his steps becomes as trying as it is inevitable.

*sigh* I hate to say this, but I feel like I’m being let down by Helena Mauve. I’ve read many of her stories and have ALWAYS loved them.. but recently, not so much.
I thought this would be the story to put me back in love with her… but it wasn’t. There was a lot of promise and intrigue there, but then it all fell flat to me.
There are hints of physical abuse, but nothing is every exactly told about what happened. In fact, there were points where I was wondering if there was rape or other types of abuse that had happened, but again, nothing is really given up in solid facts.
Then we move on to Stefan. I thought I knew what was going on with him… but then things would change and I’d be surprised (good right? sometimes 🙁 )
I really just wish everything wouldn’t have been so vague and we would’ve gotten some solid answers and known a bit of more what was actually going on with both characters.
However, having said all that, the only redeeming quality of the story was the lovely way Helena writes. That has not changed. She still writes a captivating story with interesting characters with a smooth flow even if the reader is wondering what the heck is going on.

Helena Maeve has always been a globe trotter with a fondness for adventure, but only recently has she started putting to paper the many stories she’s collected in her excursions. When she isn’t writing erotic romance novels, she can usually be found in an airport or on a plane, furiously penning in her trusty little notebook.
