The story is 4.5 stars, but with the formatting, spelling and grammar issues, it drops the rating to a 3.5.

Elaine White wrote a great story of coming of age. I enjoyed how she sets up the story line and develops the characters. I felt that the story was endearing and heartfelt. I could sympathize with the main character – could feel the angst of his struggle. White wrote in a manner that allowed me to realize how hard believing in yourself can be when you’re so young. It also showed what true friendship can consist of, as well as what unconditional love looks like.
I liked that the reader was given a fairly comprehensive background for Cormag – it helped to understand where Lachlan fit in to his life. I also appreciated how hard Lachlan’s decisions were for his friends and family to accept. But I loved that he stood up for what he wanted and believed – it made me really respect him and Cormag. I also felt that White did a great job of portraying a realistic relationship – it wasn’t hyper-sexualized – it was more innocent than that, but it helped to foster the coming of age feeling. Despite the story line being somewhat predictable, I still enjoyed it a lot.
There are several typos, formatting issues (at least in the kindle) and some spelling issues (even though I realize there were some European spellings, there are also some common spelling errors). It made it more difficult to read the story because the poor editing distracted from the story. I also listened to some of the book while in the car and with the inconsistent spacing (especially with the pronoun “he” – h e) it made it very difficult to follow the audio. This book would be more well received if the edits were to be redone.
