Synopsis

As a young man, Dominic Jacobsen already suspects he’s gay, and he gets all the confirmation he needs when a rich boy from out of town climbs into the back seat of Dominic’s GTO. One night with Lamar Franklin is all it takes to convince Dominic he’s found the man of his dreams. Unfortunately, that one night is all he’ll get before Lamar returns to Tucson.

Fifteen years later Lamar returns to Coda, Colorado, after ending the latest in a string of bad relationships. He’s alone, depressed, and plagued by late-night phone calls from an unidentified caller. Lamar’s ready to give up when he comes face-to-face with his past.

Since he was seventeen, Dominic has dreamed of a reunion with Lamar, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready for it now. Facing small-town rumors and big-family drama is bad enough, but Dominic won’t risk losing custody of his teenage daughter, Naomi. The only solution is to make sure he and Lamar remain friends and nothing more. Clothes stay on, no matter what.

It seems simple enough. But for better or worse, Lamar has other ideas.

ThreeandHalfStars

This was a hard story to read. Love that one feels they can’t acknowledge but still craves.
I think for me the worst part was the back and forth Dominic played. I understood that he wanted Lamar but didn’t want the backlash that would come with it, but once we get to the end it all seems so overblown and pointless.
I think the crime part of the story was unnecessary or could’ve been used in a way that helped draw the characters together…. but it didn’t. It distracted from the men and their troubles.
I felt like Lamar could be so incredibly needy and demanding at times which was disappointing in what I felt was such a strong character otherwise.
I haven’t read any of the other books in this series so maybe that would’ve helped.
I liked the narrator of the audiobook and he kept me listening when I might have been otherwise distracted from the book.

ThreeStar

This book has a long lost love.. Angst and a stalker.
What can I say about Lamar… At first I did not care for his character because of what he did with Jonas.  Not a huge fan of cheating in a book. Once I read farther into the book I started to understand why he did what he did with Jonas a little bit more.  Still was not a huge fan of it though.  I did end up feeling bad for Lamar with the way Dominic ran so hot and cold, pushed then pulled him back.  Lamar suffered from depression after what had happened with Jonas, so  when Dominic was playing his games with him I hoped Lamar would have just said enough is enough.
Dominic I honestly did care for his character at all.  First he wanted Lamar then he pushed him away blaming it on having a daughter.  He was so hot and cold it really drove me nuts.  Then you get very little steam with this book..
The stalker was really the most interesting part of this book the rest while I liked it I was not a fan of these two MC’s together.  I really just did not feel it with these two probably because most of the book Dominic was pushing him away.
So while I liked this book there was a few things that bugged me about this book also..
