Synopsis

Love forged in fire is unassailable.

Fireman Salter Beauman, Beau to his friends, has had his eye on cute Marty Standish ever since he helped rescue Marty and his boss from the bombed out rubble of Temple Church. An analyst for the security services, Marty is cute, geeky and submissive through and through—even if he doesn’t know it yet.

With a serial fire starter making inroads into Beau’s life expectancy, he decides that there is no time to waste and introduces Marty to the D/s lifestyle. Marty responds with wide eyes, an insatiable desire to learn and the ability to turn Beau on with nothing more than a wiggle of his slim hips.

But Beau has a second, far more malevolent admirer. ‘See me dance’ is the message left at a series of increasingly dangerous fires. Beau and Marty must work together to catch a psychotic arsonist before their love goes up in flames. Literally.

Reader Advisory: This book contains a scene that includes sexual abuse.

ThreeandHalfStars

Beau and Marty make a cute, but somewhat strange couple.  You have Beau, the alpha, tough as nails Dom, who desperately wants Marty, the geeky, somewhat socially awkward spy.

While I have loved this series, this was a stranger story for me.  I loved the dynamic that the two characters brought to the series, however, I felt that the other books incorporated more of the secondary characters, which helped create a more cohesive feeling in the series.

Beau’s firefighting is hot and I love how protective he is of Marty, but it seemed that a lot of the story was based on his fire fighting and figuring out the mystery and less at developing Marty’s sub side.  So to categorize this book as a BDSM book, I would say it’s more of a BDSM mention or it’s light BDSM.

Then you have Marty.  I love how his mind works.  His geeky side sneaks out and without his awareness, he constantly is quoting facts, figures, etc.  I found that incredibly adorable.  I also loved how he was willing to see where things went – he was OK with figuring out who he wanted to be – free to ideas and new ways of developing himself.  I also found it great that he was OK that his family didn’t know what he did.  I was slightly saddened that his family would not care if they knew the truth, but in the end, Marty was OK with who he was and what he chose to do with his life.

Then you have Spark… I didn’t like him to begin with and liked him even less at the end.  Although I did like how he was devious and a planner, I felt that the story was kind of jumbled and it didn’t flow as nicely as some of the others in the series did.

However, I did enjoy the story and felt that it did add to the dynamic of this awesome group of men.

This book was just ok for me; I had high hopes for a hot fireman and a geek. I just didn’t feel much connection between the characters. There was some drama, I mean how could there not be since there was an arson on the loose. The facts that Marty would spit out, while cute at times drove me nuts at other times as well. There was very little BDSM in this so I would call it light BDSM if that. Maybe I am missing something since this is the first book in the series I have read and if I would have read the previous books I would have felt more connection, who knows, I just know it was an ok read.

AuthorBio

I live in a small village in the English countryside, surrounded by rolling hills, cows and sheep. I started writing to fill time between jobs and am now firmly and unashamedly addicted.

I love the English weather, especially the rain, and adore a thunderstorm. I love good food, warm company and a crackling fire.

I’m fascinated by the psychology of relationships, especially between men, and my stories contain some subtle (and not so subtle) leanings towards BDSM.
