I went into this book knowing it was dark and gonna be a wild ride. However, I felt like even though there were quite a few emotional scenes, they were lacking. I didn’t connect to the character and what he was going through since it was all described how the reader should feel instead of showing us how it would feel.

A lot of scenes seemed just thrown at the reader without any lead in or descriptions, just blank and blank happened and we are expected to understand why the characters felt a certain way.

There was a whole lot that made me go OMG, what just happened?! And a few times of thinking ‘this book is sooooo weird and dark.’

However, over all, I think there was a LOT of promise there and I really felt like the author could grow into a very good, very well known writer with a bit more development and growth.

3 Stars for Fire In The Blood by Lisabet Sarai #MM #Romance @PridePublishing

1.5

Title: Fire In The Blood
Author Name & Publisher: Lisabet Sarai (Pride Publishing)
Publication Date & Length: August 16, 2010 – 68 pgs

Synopsis

In the heart of darkness, eternal passion burns.

Maddy and Troy hope that a care-free vacation in tropical Jamaica will re-ignite the passion in their five-year relationship. On a scenic mountain trail, Maddy’s horse bolts and carries her deep into the jungle. Injured and lost, she is saved by a seductive giant of a man whose mere presence kindles unbearable lust. By the time she understands his dark nature, it is far to late for her to escape.

Bitter and alone, Etienne de Rémorcy haunts the forest around the ruined plantation of Fin d’Espoir. He has sworn to never again taste human blood, but when slender, raven-haired Madeleine begs him to take her, he cannot resist.

Troy is hugely relieved when Maddy makes her way back to their hotel after her ordeal in the mountains, but he finds her greatly changed—fiercely passionate in bed, restless and disturbed at other times. The tall, elegant stranger he meets on the beach hold the key to her transformation, and soon has seduced Troy as well. Even Etienne’s most potent magic can’t extinguish the fire in Troy’s and Madeleine’s blood.

So while Maddie is riding a horse on a mountain trail she gets hurt and her horse bolts which is when Etienne finds and save her. He is a vampire who has been wondering alone for a long time. There was also Troy who is her lover waiting for her and worried.
It felt to much like cheating and like Maddie did not care enough about Troy her lover to not sleep with Etienne while she was lost. So that is one of my no’s I am just not a fan of that personally so that ruined this story for me unfortunately. So I while I did think this book was very hot with a lot of steam, sadly this story was just not for me..

Synopsis

Dennis Hayden’s last memory is of hiking in the mountains. He doesn’t know how he ended up in town, nor how he keeps popping up in various places. He walks around aimlessly, trying to recall something as simple as his name. He’s not sure what to think of the stranger he sees repeatedly, and who keeps trying to talk to him.

While meeting a potential client at the hospital, Eric overhears a young lady looking for her brother who went missing several days ago, while hiking. Eric recognizes the picture of Dennis on the flyer and sets out to reunite him with his sister.

This was a quick, short read that was an insta love story.  While I normally don’t like this, it was slightly unexpected, but not altogether bad.

I really enjoyed Dennis and Sarah and Eric.  They made a funny, sweet trio.  I don’t know why Bruce was even mentioned in the story – he was very unnecessary.

While it was a VERY short story, it was sweet and wished that there were going to be more to it – developed more.

So in this book Eric travels a lot for work. On one of those trips he meets Dennis.
Now I had a really hard time believing a lot of this Novella. There were just parts that did not seem right to me. I don’t want to go to much into what I had a hard time with because I do not want to spoil this book for someone else. So I will try to explain without spoilers..
The laughing and joking around at times that were supposed to be serious or what I thought were supposed to be serious moments was a little weird to me.
Then there was the super fast way their relationship moved. One minute Dennis does not believe him and the next they are moving in together. That happened a little to fast to me and I honestly am not sure how I feel about them as a couple because you really do not see them together much.
I really did like where the author was going with this story, I just had a hard time wrapping my head around some parts of this book.

So I am sad to say this Novella was just not for me…

Excerpt

From The Eighth Night

Kai pulled up to the valet and peeled his stiff fingers from the wheel. White-knuckling it through downtown Boston traffic did not foster the inner peace necessary to handle spending the holidays with his family. He’d spent the majority of the drive kicking himself for not taking the train from Albany, but then he wouldn’t have been able to put in a couple hours at the office before heading out.

He popped the trunk of his blue Fusion and pulled his duffel bag and laptop backpack from the passenger seat. By the time he walked to the back of the car, a bellhop had already pulled his small suitcase out of the trunk and was on his way into the building with it, leaving Kai no choice but to follow. Entering the private resident lobby, he was cleared by security and escorted to the elevators. He remembered how uncomfortable he’d been with all this pomp and ceremony when he was fifteen and his  family had moved into the building. The fanciful idea of living in a hotel belonged in children’s books, not real life. He still felt awkward as an adult, as if he were acting out a scene in a movie.

He exited the elevator on the 30th floor and immediately spotted the bags in the hall outside his parents’ apartment. No. They wouldn’t…

“Malachai, you’re finally here.” His mother stepped into the hall, pulling on her

gloves. “I just left you a note on the kitchen counter.” She looked down at the bags as if checking to see they were all accounted for, but Kai saw the lack of eye contact for the avoidance tactic it was.

“Going somewhere? I thought we were having a family Chanukah this year.”

He can barely find the town on a map, which is just the kind of place Caleb needs. He’s not looking for a relationship, and Thornwood looks to be the perfect place to get lost in his art. But when Thornwood’s local police officer, Trent Williams, knocks on Caleb’s front door, both men have an instant attraction to each other, and Caleb’s plans for solitude might have to change.

But he soon learns that Trent is a legendary one-night-stand man for a very special reason. His boyfriend has been kept on life support for the past five years after a serious skiing accident. Even though Simon isn’t expected to wake up and Trent says he’s trying to get past him, he won’t entertain anything that comes close to commitment. ThreeandHalfStars

I think the town stole the show for me with this book. Thornwood Colorado might just be the perfect small town.

The handsome, friendly police officer might add to the attraction but I was a little hot and cold with Trent all the way through. I loved his friendship and tentative relationship with Caleb, but I struggled with his string of one-night stands. His relationship with his father, and his relationship with Simon gave me hope, but his need for casual sex was off-putting.

But if Trent was a little bit slutty, Caleb came off as an uptight prude at times. It is only when we start to see him relax with his friends that he becomes more relaxed and a little bit fun.

This is a very angsty story. Sex and the decision to have sex or not to have sex causes huge conflict. I’m sure there are promise ring wearing teenagers who find sex less complicated and probably more enjoyable than Trent and Caleb do through much of this story. Both men come with sexual baggage and the result is a sexual minefield.

So – overall, I loved the feel-good hometown. I love the setting in the Rockies and I love watching Caleb make the transition from LA life to small-town living. I liked the characters, but I didn’t fall for them completely. I think I would have preferred more sex and less angst, but this was still an engaging story.

ThreeandHalfStars

This book just came across totally weird. Trent was so slutty I almost could finish the book. Caleb was so stuffy you had to wonder if he has a stick up his a** but he decided to leave LA and picked Thornwood to move to. There was some humor in the book so at least I got a laugh every once in a while. But there was also sorrow and heartache also. Overall it wasn’t a bad book the author writing style was good. I always say that the writing style of the book can make or break it. This is the only reason I really could finish the book was because to the authors writing style.

ThreeStar

So as much as I liked where this author was going with this story I was left feeling a little confused and like this story felt a little rushed to me.
Rafe has lied and manipulated people for most of his life to take care of his family and protect them from his mothers claws. He feels like he hurt people so once he sees his sister married he plans on leaving even though he has fallen for a man.
So I was left confused on what Rafe really had done so wrong when I felt like he was trying to protect his sisters and like everything went so fast with this story that honestly my head was spinning trying to figure out what was happening and trying to keep up with everything that was going on.

So I am sad to say this Novella was just not for me…

This was such a sweet book!

Okay Harry has huge problem with foot in the mouth and is always saying what first comes to his mind which is not always a good thing. He gets really nervous talking to Andrew and lets say he has not given him the best first impression. Well something magical happens to Harry which helps him with his problem and brings him closer to Andrew.

I have to say this was the sweetest book I have read in awhile between the way Harry was so shy with Andrew and how they grew so much closer to each other and really cared for one another.

I loved the way the author had dual POV’s between these two men because it was really good to see what they both were feeling about each other and the way she wrote these characters, I just honestly loved both of these men together. I do not want to give too much of this book away so I will leave this review with this was such a sweet Christmas book and I really loved it!

Excerpt

Harry didn’t need to look behind him to have his suspicions confirmed. The smug expression on Jason’s face said it all. “I hate you,” he whispered.

Jason kicked his shin. “Sit up, smile, and look happy to see him.”

Two minutes later, Andrew was pulling up a chair and setting his drink on the table.

Harry looked at the red takeaway cup topped with a mountain of whipped cream, and grinned. Instead of blurting out the first thing that came to mind—“Are you really gonna drink that?”—because God only knew what would happen this time to make him stop, Harry paused and took a sip of his coffee.

Andrew darted a glance between Harry and Jason, beginning to look uncomfortable, as though he thought he’d interrupted them.

Harry took a deep breath, then gestured at Andrew’s cup. “Is that one of the Christmas specials?” That wasn’t so hard, was it?

He relaxed a little as Andrew smiled at him and settled back in his chair.

“Yeah, it’s the gingerbread latte. I don’t normally indulge, but it’s bloody freezing out there today, and I fancied something delicious and bad for me.” His gaze caught Harry’s and lingered.

A flare of warmth filled Harry’s chest. This was flirting, right? It wasn’t his imagination.

Then Jason opened his big mouth and ruined the moment, saying, “Yeah, I think Kyle has that effect on a lot of people.”

Harry choked on his mouthful of coffee, just managing to swallow it instead of spraying it over the table. He glared daggers at Jason, who feigned innocence.

Andrew glanced over at the counter, then back at Jason, and laughed, his eyes crinkling at the edges. Harry bit his lip in frustration. Why couldn’t he get Andrew to laugh like that?

“Yeah,” Andrew said, “He’s not bad to look at.” Then his gaze slid back to Harry and his smile softened. “Not my type, though.”
