FourStars

This is a charming story of two men who had a relationship in high school meeting up more than ten years later.

Vinnie is a slightly directionless red-headed bar tender.  In his late twenties, he hasn’t ever made any serious commitments or had a long-term relationship.

Chance is a single father.  He is building his own business while caring for a young son.  After a long hetero marriage he is finally ready to be honest about the fact he is gay.

Back in school the men fooled around for a summer.  They never talked about their feelings and the relationship ended when they went back to school.

When Chance walks into Vinnie’s bar and the men meet for the first time since school, things are more than a little bit complicated between them.

This short story is tender and nuanced.  It is told alternately from Chase and Vinnie’s perspectives.  The dual narrative allows Grace to sensitively explore both men’s memories, feelings and insecurities.

An excellent short story – I just wish Grace had written this as a full novel!

“It’s not exactly the penthouse, but it’s home.” I reach back for Chance’s wrist and tug him in behind me.

“I didn’t come here for the amenities,” he says, resting his hand on my hip and squeezing.

“No?” I turn so his arm is wrapped around my waist. “What did you come for?”

My face is inches from his. His warm breath washes over me as I stare into those desperate eyes.

“This.” Chance’s eyes drop to my mouth as his head tilts and he leans into me. As soon as his full lips close over mine, I want to sing. I instinctively open my mouth to accept his tongue as it lightly brushes over mine. We aren’t tentative kids anymore. We’ve both had time to perfect our techniques over the years so by the time I drag Chance into my room, I’ve touched every space in his mouth that I can reach.

Our hands aren’t left idle as we tug on clothes and pull down zippers until we’re both naked and panting on my bed.

“God, I’ve missed you, Vin,” Chance says against my chest as he drops kisses on my skin.

ThreeStar

This is the story of Jens and Elliot, two men travelling for business.  In Boston, they both arrange to let the same flat for the same weekend.  Just as Jens arrives, a blizzard hits.

This is a short story.  It is a simple story.  It is a sexy story.  The men are hot, the sex is hot, the snow is cold.  It is the perfect story to read in front of a fire on a cold February night.

I really like the way Sara York’s writing style has evolved since the first Texas Soul books a few years ago.  Her writing is now much more polished and the dialogue between the two men rings true.

My only reservation about the story is that the ensuing relationship between the two men isn’t very believable.  But hey – it was billed as romance, not erotica.

3.5 Stars for Come to My Window by Mia Kerick – #Lesbian #FF #YoungAdult #GenderIdentity

unnamed (1)

Title: Come to My Window
Author Name: Mia Kerick
Publication Date & Length: January 15, 2015 – 182pgs

Synopsis

Justine Laraby and Kemina Lopez are intimate acquaintances yet they have never exchanged so much as a single word. For months, high school senior Justine, and famed model, “Kemina, the Baby Vixen” of Nightingale Lingerie, have been peering at each other across a narrow alley between brownstones in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This mutual observation soon turns into the exchange of handwritten messages on signs they hold up whenever they come to their bedroom windows. Via this “sign language,” a friendship grows, and Justine learns that Kemina is, like her, a high school senior, but with a controlling mother and a modeling career that requires her to maintain an unnaturally thin physique. And through the window, she also witnesses her new friend exercising fanatically, hoarding food, and being physically and emotionally abused by her ambitious mother.

Window messages evolve into clandestine meetings and soon a tentative romance blooms. But Justine must come to terms with her own “mommy issues,” as well as accept her gender identity and sexual orientation, before she can provide Kemina with the support she needs to survive a family life that resembles a ruthless business transaction.

Will Justine be strong enough to throw open the window so Kemina can escape society’s suffocating expectations?

ThreeandHalfStars

I found this to be an unusual and unlikely storyline.  Two teenage girls watch each other from each other’s windows.  They begin writing notes to each other they press up against the window.  It is through this form of communication they develop a friendship which grows into more as they decide to meet outside of their four walls.

Justine attends a private school and Kemina does an online school so she can pursue her modeling for Nightgale Lingerie.  When Kemina is not studying, going on photo shoots, she is exercising in her room and being weighed and measured by her controlling mother.  Kemina’s mother (only known as Mrs. Lopez) is her manager.  She supports both of them with money made by her modeling career.

Kemina invites Justine over one evening via note to the window when she mom is out for the evening.  It seems like Kemina is not satisfied with seeing Justine the few times she has in public.  Unfortunately, their first kiss is interrupted by Mrs. Lopez coming home early.  Being teenagers, they lie and say they were studying.  Justine goes home.

What I did like about this book was the fact that Kemina wants to start a new line of clothing for women who aren’t a size 2 and can be proud of their bodies.  Not surprisingly, her mom goes ballistic and Justine tells Kemina she can stay at her house so she can be safe.

Kemina does start a new clothing line with Nightgale Lingerine and begins spending late nights working with designers.  One evening Justine cannot get in touch with Kemina and is getting ready to go to sleep and looks into Kemina’s old room.  She sees suitcases open on her bed full of clothes, but there is no one in the room.  She tells her dad her fears and they go to Kemina’s house.  I was shocked to read what Mrs. Lopez had done.  She put Kemina in the backseat, gagged her and zip–tied her hands behind her back.  Guess she was really mentally unbalanced after all.  The police are called and Mrs. Lopez is called and is arrested.

This would be a good book for Young Adults who are worried about being a size 2.  They can read this and know it is okay to be the size you are.

But it’s not until the screen fills with the image of this baby seal,
all white and fluffy with dark vulnerable eyes that we both gasp a
little bit and then turn to look at each other. I can feel her breath on
my lips and my nose is nearly touching hers, and, well, I don’t know
about Kemina, but I’m all kinds of spellbound by this moment. She
reaches up and touches my jaw, just below my ear, with this soft
brush of her fingertips, and I have no choice but to lean down and
kiss her. Not that I was looking too hard for another option. Cuz I
wasn’t.
I kind of thought that my first kiss would be like an electric
shock or the sharp poke of cupid’s dart or fireworks exploding in a
dark night sky, but it’s not like any of those things. The way it feels
when my lips touch Kemina’s is soft and gentle and tender. It’s a
yielding of her mouth to mine, and then mine to hers. It’s an intimate
moment that’s breathy and warm and sweet and just ours.
“Ummmm….” She lets out this sound that makes me think of
how it feels to sink into a hot bath after a long afternoon of ice
skating in frigid temperatures. “That was my first real kiss.”
“Real kiss?” I ask. Our lips are only about an inch apart. I have
a strong feeling that her second real kiss is only a moment away.

AuthorBio

Mia Kerick is the mother of four exceptional children—all named after saints—and five nonpedigreed cats—all named after the next best thing to saints, Boston Red Sox players. Her husband of twenty years has been told by many that he has the patience of Job, but don’t ask Mia about that, as it is a sensitive subject.

Mia focuses her stories on the emotional growth of troubled men and their relationships, and she believes that sex has a place in a love story, but not until it is firmly established as a love story. As a teen, Mia filled spiral-bound notebooks with romantic tales of tortured heroes (most of whom happened to strongly resemble lead vocalists of 1980s big-hair bands) and stuffed them under her mattress for safekeeping. She is thankful to Dreamspinner Press for providing her with an alternate place to stash her stories.

Mia is proud of her involvement with the Human Rights Campaign and cheers for each and every victory made in the name of marital equality. Her only major regret: never having taken typing or computer class in school, destining her to a life consumed with two-fingered pecking and constant prayer to the Gods of Technology.

3.5 Stars for The Fear of Surrender (Hampton Road Club #3) by Morticia Knight #MM #Romance #BDSM @MorticiaKnight @Totally_Bound

ThreeandHalfStars

This book was not one of my favorites from her. Linus is a young sub who had a terrible experience by the abusive “Master” that we saw last book.  He is incredible timid and shy, not a strong sub like we’ve seen in the other characters throughout this series.
Thomas is a Dom, but he is so careful when it comes to Linus that it almost seems like he is willing to put his Dom side away, just so he doesn’t scare Linus.
These two characters danced around each other so much. What could have been a really great relationship turned out to be less than spectacular. It was more of a courtship and the substance was just not there for me.
Despite that, I enjoyed reading this continuation of the series.

FourStars

This is a very sweet short novel.  I like books about relationships beyond the initial passionate falling in love stage and this one started with a marriage on the edge of collapse.

Seth is a fireman.  He was seriously injured in a fire that has left physical and emotional scars.

After supporting Seth for too long, his husband Casey finally walks away after Seth’s behaviour becomes frightening.

When Casey is stuck in a blizzard with a group of school children, Seth is the only person he can call for help.

RJ Scott is a reliably good writer. Even in a really short book, she manages well developed characters, a great sense of place and a complex relationship.

This is a comfort book.  The story is gentle and the plot obvious, but she has us rooting for the couple from the start.  It is the perfect book to read in front of a fire on a grim winter’s evening.

“Wanting to spend time with my long-lost twin. Together we’re more powerful than anyone who ever lived. More powerful than the people before us and we’ll be more powerful than anyone who comes after us. Join us and be a part of something wonderful, something great.”
“And to do that I must become what? Evil?” Grace yelled, breaking the intimate link.
“Not evil. Darkness doesn’t always mean evil and bad, just as light doesn’t always translate into goodness. You can be more powerful!” Amethyst threw out her arms, power crackling at her fingertips.
“What if I don’t want to be Dark? If I don’t join you?” Amethyst’s eyes darkened and Grace felt more power build up in Amethyst. Yet, deep in her mind she wasn’t scared – she felt almost certain Amethyst wouldn’t hurt her.
“That, my sister, would be a mistake.”

This is by far the most, entertaining, engrossing and exciting book I have read in a long time.
The story evolves around two teenage girls as they approach their 17th birthdays. It is an extraordinary magical love story. The magic begins when Grace moves in next door to Sarah, the pastors daughter, both girls are instantly attracted to each other and their love slowly and gently develops. Along the way they have to deal with, jealousy and bigotry, however, nothing can dent their growing feeling and love for each other.
As the story develop it becomes obvious that Grace has magical powers. These powers are introduced into the novel in such a natural way that Grace’s powers seem perfectly normal and in no way unbelievable to the reader.
The story draws to a conclusion at Grace’s 17th birthday reunion with her family and Sarah, when Grace’s full magical powers are finally revealed. At this point I can only urge you to buy this book and find out just why this book is entitled “Saving Grace.”
This is such a wonderfully refreshing book I can only hope that Ms Gryffon has a sequel at her obviously magical finger tips!!!

I’ve been writing for quite a few years now – it has always been a passion of mine. Not too long ago, I met (via web) an author who turned my world upside down with his fantastic novels. He then proceeded to show me how to self-publish my books.

My first published work: Stranded: Gauturan, I started writing when I was in either my sophomore or junior year of high school that features me and my closest three friends. That story was the kick-off to my writing and self-publishing books that I have a passion for. I have the help of my wonderful partner Kejsi Miller and a web of friends who give me love and support for all the works of fiction I write.

I write fiction, fantasy and LGTB romance novels (or rather just the L) – some longer than others and some more involved in others. Writing is my world and it’s a world I love to write about. I’ve loved books since I was a little kid and my passion for reading has only grown – deepening the well of books I have yet to read and the list grows with each day. I’ve had the pleasure to talk with some authors who have inspired me and I wish to inspire others to not only read, but to write as well. The world can always use a creative mind to send us to another world.

The cyclo had bumped across the bridge, following the curve in the road, then moved quickly down the final straight stretch, past houses and shops, past rows of trees and walls and occasional open spaces, past vendors who lined the street’s edge selling gasoline in glass bottles. Motorcycles, Lambretta mini-buses packed with people, cream-and-blue Renault taxis, pedestrians with baskets and boxes—all crowded the street. Noises, smells, and smoke came from everywhere, and as the driver increased his speed, I smiled, gripping the metal frame tighter and pushing slightly with my feet as the moist wind rushed around me. Speeding through the streets of Saigon, wearing the green Air Force-issued jungle fatigues, my life of a year ago seemed unreal.

FiveStars

I absolutely love this book!  Part Indiana Jones, part Tomb Raider, part Monument Men, this is a story of intrique and vigilante justice.  Add in sweet romance and sizzling sex scenes, and Patricia Logan has written aperfect story.

This is the story of Ranger.  A former marine, awarded the silver star for gallantry, he is out of work and nearly homeless when Logan introduces him.

Landry is the incredibly wealthy man who hires Ranger to be his bodyguard.  Landry comes across as a male Lara Croft – with a few more secrets.

The two men are from very different worlds.  For very different reasons, neither man trusts easily and it takes some time and bullets before the men start to work together as true partners.

With a hot LAPD detective after them and a cranky butler looking out for them, the story hurtles from one adventure to another.

I hadn’t realised this was a sequel to The Superstar until the characters from the first book were introduced.  This is a darker, more sombre story.  Logan has spent considerable time and effort researching the world of antiquities and the fate of antiquities in Nazi occupied Europe.  Her research pays off and allows The Thief to be a much more complex, multi-layered book than The Superstar was.

The Thief will appeal to a different audience than The Superstar and is very much a stand-alone novel.

I love this and can’t recommend it enough!

This was my first book by this author and it definitely won’t be my last.  The writing was very descriptive and the dialogue was great.

This story was about Ranger a bodyguard/military man.  Loved him, he was down on his luck and struggling to make it day to day but gave his last dollar to a homeless woman, right then I knew this character could do no wrong. Finally a friend found him a job and I loved how he came into that job taking control.  He fell for a art thief, Landry who he was supposed to protect. I thought Landry was a spoiled rich guy, but the sparks flew between the two, and their romance was entertaining.

I found myself laughing out loud at the bedroom scene!  Belzer, the servant was very entertaining and added to the story.

This was an excellent suspense story that kept me interested through out.  I really enjoyed reading it and highly recommend it.

Some hot and heavy romance with your art thefts anyone? Yes Please!!
When I saw the post about this book being available for review, I didn’t even need to read the synopsis, I saw the author’s name and requested it. I read the first book in the Bodyguard series, The Superstar, and I really enjoyed it!!! The Thief, is Patricia Logan’s second book in the Bodyguard series, but it can be read as a stand-alone,
Our Hero’s!!! And, Yes they are both Heros, Landry and Ranger deliver this instalment of the Bodyguard series with humour and vulnerability that will tug at your heart strings and have you laughing out loud the next line.
Landry is a very unassuming hero. He is on a quest, with the best of intentions and you will be moved with the motivation behind it all. I was extremely impressed with the knowledge Patricia Logan shares about the art world and some other historical events that she describes in amazing and incredible detail. My jaw dropped quite a few times!!
Ranger, the Bodyguard, a former Navy Seal is sexy, rough, vulnerable at times, and that makes him the perfect companion, partner, lover for Landry. He doesn’t take any crap but you also know that when it gets right down to it, he WILL have your back and you most definitely want someone like Ranger on your side!!! He pulls Landry out of his shell, and gives him confidence to go after what he wants, and what Laundry wants is Ranger. The chemistry was intense!!! There were some very tender moments and they made me smile through tears. And Belzer, the Butler, an added bonus and perfect companion to this story. He was feisty and funny.
I really enjoyed this journey with Laundry and Ranger!!!!

“I know it’s silly… please don’t laugh at me but, I just imagine you came in and swept me off my feet, picked me right up and set me on the back of your white horse and made me… well… you made me feel complete Ranger.” Landry chuckled. “Ranger… you complete me… I love you.” Ranger lay there quietly listening, probably stunned by Landry’s revelation. “You don’t have to say anything back to me, baby, but I just wanted you to know… I love you.”

Landry quieted, listening to Ranger’s breathing as something suddenly dawned on him. He frowned.

“Ranger?” he whispered. “Baby?” Landry let go of the gorgeous hair he loved so dearly and reached around, pushing gently at Ranger’s shoulders. Ranger breathed deeply, his chest rising and falling. “Ranger…” Landry said a little louder. He frowned and pushed at Ranger as he felt his flaccid cock slide out of his ass. “Ranger!” Landry squirmed out from under him as he finally pushed hard on Ranger’s pecs.

Ranger groaned and rolled to his back and Landry rolled with him, propping himself up on one elbow as he looked down into Ranger’s relaxed face. His long black eyelashes lay against his cheeks. When his mouth fell open, he let out a loud snore. “Khhaaaaa!”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Landry asked. “Are you ASLEEP?”

Author Interview with Sara Daniels @SSaraDaniel

Spanks-Lovespanks-2015-wnames-Amazon

  • Can you describe in detail what your writing environment is like?

I also do a lot of writing on a big comfy chair looking out my front window. When the weather is nice, I love to write outside—on a not-so-comfy chair by my front door or in a lawn chair at a nearby forest preserve. If I can’t be outside, a seat in front of a window is a MUST. I do a lot of staring outside while my mind is churning!

  • Is there one of your characters that you relate to (from any of your works)? Why?

I can definitely relate to Sadie from The Briefcase. She wants to be a good, conscientious employee and do what’s expected of her, while she also needs to take care of her family. She worries that she’ll fail the expectations set for her and doesn’t want to disappoint anyone. Yep, that was me in my teens and twenties!

  • If you couldn’t be an author, what would you do instead?

Well, I got my degree in accounting, so I’d probably fall back on that, but it definitely wouldn’t fill the void. In fact, working such an analytical job would have my creative side desperate to burst out. If I couldn’t write, maybe I’d try something like website design. I could channel my creativity into the layout and design, and I could continue working from home on my own which I love!

  • Is there anything that you learned during the writing process that you wish you had known before hand?

The Briefcase was my first F/F story, and the most difficult change I found from writing M/F was the pronoun usage. I could no longer use he or she in place of names and be assured that the reader would instantly know which character I was referring to.

  • Is there anything that you wish you could change about your book now that it is out?

I may expand it to a longer novella in the future. I think the story has a lot of potential to become more fully developed with more conflict and Rhea’s point of view. But I’m really happy with this anthology version right now.

  • How do you come up with new ideas for your story?

I have always been drawn to relationships and happy endings. Many times a story inspiration comes to me when I hear a situation or read an article with an unsatisfying conclusion, and I want to give those people a better ending. I might not be able to in real life, but I certainly can in fiction.

  • What’s next for you as a writer?

I’m wrapping up my One Night with the Bridal Party series of M/F one-night stand stories. One Night with the Bride, One Night with the Bridesmaid, and One Night with the Groom are currently available. One Night with the Best Man, One Night with Her Husband, and One Night with His Wife will be release in April, May, and June respectively.

  • Where do you live? Do you think this influences how or what you write?

I’m from a small town in Illinois, so I don’t think it’s a surprise that a lot of my books end up being set in small towns in Illinois. Several more of my books are set in Chicago because that’s the urban area I live near, so it definitely influences my writing. I find it easier to write a setting that I have personal knowledge of, even if I create a fictional setting from that base of personal knowledge.

  • What is your favorite genre outside of the one you write in? Why?

Outside of romance, I’ve been enjoying middle grade fantasy series books—Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Fablehaven. This is definitely due to my daughter’s influence. Although she’s old enough to read these books on her own, I started reading them aloud to her at bedtime when she was first struggling to read, and we both love the routine too much to stop.

  • Do you have any vices? Shoes, coffee, shopping…etc?

Coffee, red wine, pasta, chocolate. I could come up with more, but that’s enough to incriminate me. J

Synopsis Sadie is on a mission to deliver an important briefcase for her boss, Rhea, whom she’s lusted after forever. But an emergency changes Sadie’s plans, and suddenly she is trying to keep a horde of well-meaning friends from prying the briefcase out of her hands. When the shocking contents spill out at the worst possible moment, much more than Sadie’s job is at stake.

Excerpt

“You’re the only person I trust to deliver this without peeking inside,” Rhea said.

Flushing both with desire and embarrassment—had Rhea noticed her gawking?—Sadie snapped her gaze back to the woman’s face. “Of course not. I would never—”

“Good. Because if you do, there will be consequences.” Her regal blue eyes held Sadie captive.

Consequences. The word sent a thrill shivering through her veins. She’d never push Rhea to make good on the threat. But what if those consequence were something other than a reprimand in her personnel file, something physical and, um, personal?

Of course they wouldn’t be. Rhea was a consummate professional and would never consider such a thing, even though the increasing sternness of her tone turned Sadie on more with every word.

Staring at Rhea’s black stilettos, she tried not to give herself away. “I’ll take the briefcase to Mr. Thacker right now.”

“Good girl.” The other woman placed her index finger under Sadie’s chin, raising it until Sadie met her gaze. “When you’re done, take the rest of the day off.”

She stumbled back a step, her chin tingling from the simple touch. “Excuse me?” She’d often been ordered to stay late but never to take off early.

Rhea raised a perfectly arched eyebrow. “You heard me. Today is your birthday, is it not?”

Shocked she remembered the detail, Sadie nodded. But she had no party plans. In fact, she would prefer to return to the office and watch the firm’s star lawyer crank out paperwork. How pathetic was that?

“Consider this your present.” Rhea plunked the briefcase into Sadie’s arms.

AuthorBio

I’ve been writing since I was young. I remember writing a series of stories when I was 7 or 8 about a girl and a ghost called “Jackie & Spookie.” Ever since it was always a hobby just for me. It wasn’t until I was about 16 that I found out there was more to it then I ever thought. Ten years later I was ready to share with the world. Here comes my first novel “Coming Out”, about a world where the roles are flipped and a girl must come out to her family as straight in a world where everyone is gay. They ship her off to a cleansing center believing it will gay her back up, but boy are they wrong. She goes on an adventure to find herself and finds friends she never thought she’d have along the way.

My next novel was one I had been working on since I was 16, “Which Way Is Witch?” Completely different than “Coming Out”, this takes on a paranormal twist throwing the main character in a world she never expected. Her and her best friend find out things are never as they seem and family and friendship are more important than they even realize.

My writing style may not be perfect, but I try to bring laughter and smiles to every one of my readers. Whether it be paranormal, romance, or a coming of age, I hope you will come on this journey with me. Writing may be my second love (Music will always be my first), but I always put a piece of me in everything I produce. And just so there is no gasps of shock, there most likely will always be a LGBQ message or characters in my stories.
