Two 4 Star Reviews for The Master of Thornfield by Zac Blue – #FF #Historical #Erotic

1.3

Title: The Master of Thornfield
Author Name: Zac Blue
Publication Date & Length: December 30, 2014 – 42pgs

Synopsis

Prior to the events of Jane Eyre, Grace Poole battles the devil as she struggles to save the master and mistress of Thornfield from the consequences of their sexual transgressions.

The rules of Victorian society decree that they can never be together, but the nineteen-year-old maid knows she must do everything in her power to save Mr. Rochester from the darkness that has engulfed Thornfield.

As the curse upon her mistress strengthens, Grace becomes a prisoner within the household she had once controlled. Helpless, the bisexual maid is forced to witness an orgy of sexual depravity while being denied her own sexual release.

Grace escapes Thornfield only to encounter an even greater danger.

When Rochester appears with an Obeah man and his sister—the two people who may be able to save Thornfield—Grace is confronted with both new carnal temptations and her own increasingly complex feelings for her cuckolded master. She warns Rochester of the orgy of sin that has gripped Thornfield, but there are other secrets she cannot divulge.

Grace finds comfort in the arms of Amelia, the Obeah man’s sultry sister.

That comfort, however, is short-lived as Amelia makes Grace realize the enormity of the task before them. The maid must decide if her loyalty lies with her master or mistress and if there is any way she can continue to serve them both.

Grace will be forced to decide exactly how much she is willing to sacrifice in order to save her master.

This book was interesting. I’ve read the previous two installments, and I have to say this one was vastly different. It seemed more settled and resigned–the tone not the writing. That certainly fit the mood of the book.

The twist at the end was certainly interesting. I’m still wondering with Mrs. Rochester’s plans were for the child, but it’s not as relevant with what happened.

I am curious as to why every woman Grace got close to love turned evil in it though. It seems very sexist in a way. It’s not as if the men she craved or had sex with turned evil or were killed, it was only the women. (This part is for the series as a whole, not just the last book.)

This book was good, quick, hot, sexy, and kept my interest. It definitely meets the standards of the first two in the series.

This is Part 3, the conclusion of the Thornfield series. In keeping with the other parts, it maintains its erotic momentum throughout.

Reading this series was a stretch for me. I didn’t (and still don’t) care for books that are mostly very graphic sex with little else. However, this was well-written and had enough of an intriguing storyline to keep me from feeling bored with the continuous sex.

The ongoing theme of good and evil, and what constitutes both of those, was interesting. The differences in the sexual encounters reflected the various perspectives of the characters on the subject, which I found fascinating to read.

The end was fitting for the series and felt right given the events leading up to it. While I’m glad I took the risk on this series, it’s not for everyone. Readers shouldn’t expect to go into the book for the purpose of being aroused by the erotic content–they should go in knowing it’s more likely to make them think.

Excerpt

A gentle knock came hours later and, without waiting for a response, Amelia entered. She stood framed in the doorway, and Grace took a long, lustful appraisal of her. Her short, wiry hair, her strong face dominated by a large, elegant nose. Her eyes twinkled; her lips looked wet with anticipation. She was a good foot taller than Grace and moved with a feline gait into the room. She still wore the grey dress and carried with her a small black drawstring bag.

“I am here,” she said. She loomed over Grace, who sat on the bed.

“Yes,” said Grace and opened her legs.

“I am a pious woman, Miss Grace. But I believe that there is a time for piety and a time for passion. I believe that a kiss can heal as much as a prayer.”

“Then heal me,” said Grace and lay back on the bed.

Amelia placed the bag on the floor and approached the bed. She took a long, slow impression of Grace. She smiled. “Such a pretty thing you are and so full of hellfire and yearning.”

Stonewall [Saloon] was chaos when I got there. Guy and another bartender were mixing drinks as fast as they could. I squeezed in at the end of the bar near the hatchway and sat on an abandoned stool there.

I didn’t think Guy had seen me come in, so when there was a lull in the frenetic pace and he was nearly within arm’s reach, I called out, “What’s a guy gotta do to get a drink in this place?”

Guy looked up, grinned at me, and yelled back, “Fuck the bartender.”

A slim man sitting next to me perked up, gave Guy the once-over, and yelled, “Okay!”

Guy’s startled gaze met mine, and we broke out laughing.

The man next to me sighed and slumped over his beer. “I knew it was too good to be true,” he mumbled.

I patted him on the shoulder.

“Maybe next time,” I commiserated with him.

“Right,” he answered glumly.

Spotlight for Come to My Window by Mia Kerick – #Lesbian #FF #Young Adult

unnamed (1)

Title: Come to My Window
Author Name: Mia Kerick
Publication Date & Length: January 15, 2015 – 182pgs

Synopsis

Justine Laraby and Kemina Lopez are intimate acquaintances yet they have never exchanged so much as a single word. For months, high school senior Justine, and famed model, “Kemina, the Baby Vixen” of Nightingale Lingerie, have been peering at each other across a narrow alley between brownstones in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This mutual observation soon turns into the exchange of handwritten messages on signs they hold up whenever they come to their bedroom windows. Via this “sign language,” a friendship grows, and Justine learns that Kemina is, like her, a high school senior, but with a controlling mother and a modeling career that requires her to maintain an unnaturally thin physique. And through the window, she also witnesses her new friend exercising fanatically, hoarding food, and being physically and emotionally abused by her ambitious mother.

Window messages evolve into clandestine meetings and soon a tentative romance blooms. But Justine must come to terms with her own “mommy issues,” as well as accept her gender identity and sexual orientation, before she can provide Kemina with the support she needs to survive a family life that resembles a ruthless business transaction.

Will Justine be strong enough to throw open the window so Kemina can escape society’s suffocating expectations?

But it’s not until the screen fills with the image of this baby seal,
all white and fluffy with dark vulnerable eyes that we both gasp a
little bit and then turn to look at each other. I can feel her breath on
my lips and my nose is nearly touching hers, and, well, I don’t know
about Kemina, but I’m all kinds of spellbound by this moment. She
reaches up and touches my jaw, just below my ear, with this soft
brush of her fingertips, and I have no choice but to lean down and
kiss her. Not that I was looking too hard for another option. Cuz I
wasn’t.
I kind of thought that my first kiss would be like an electric
shock or the sharp poke of cupid’s dart or fireworks exploding in a
dark night sky, but it’s not like any of those things. The way it feels
when my lips touch Kemina’s is soft and gentle and tender. It’s a
yielding of her mouth to mine, and then mine to hers. It’s an intimate
moment that’s breathy and warm and sweet and just ours.
“Ummmm….” She lets out this sound that makes me think of
how it feels to sink into a hot bath after a long afternoon of ice
skating in frigid temperatures. “That was my first real kiss.”
“Real kiss?” I ask. Our lips are only about an inch apart. I have
a strong feeling that her second real kiss is only a moment away.

Mia Kerick is the mother of four exceptional children—all named after saints—and five nonpedigreed cats—all named after the next best thing to saints, Boston Red Sox players. Her husband of twenty years has been told by many that he has the patience of Job, but don’t ask Mia about that, as it is a sensitive subject.

Mia focuses her stories on the emotional growth of troubled men and their relationships, and she believes that sex has a place in a love story, but not until it is firmly established as a love story. As a teen, Mia filled spiral-bound notebooks with romantic tales of tortured heroes (most of whom happened to strongly resemble lead vocalists of 1980s big-hair bands) and stuffed them under her mattress for safekeeping. She is thankful to Dreamspinner Press for providing her with an alternate place to stash her stories.

Mia is proud of her involvement with the Human Rights Campaign and cheers for each and every victory made in the name of marital equality. Her only major regret: never having taken typing or computer class in school, destining her to a life consumed with two-fingered pecking and constant prayer to the Gods of Technology.

ThreeStar

I’m not a fan of this book. I love paranormal, I love angels and demons, but I have to say, I did not like it in this book. I didn’t feel as though it was handled well, and the characters didn’t seem real to me.

They were horny and apparently could get off in an instant, and had no problem going at it again and again. It’s not real. An angel, maybe, but a human, no. This book was decently written, and it had a nice Christmas story line to it.

However, I feel if you’re going to talk about Christmas in a story and then have an angel be one of the main characters, there might be some mention of Jesus or Christianity along the way. There really wasn’t much there at all. There was brief mention of church for the human, but that was it.

I think it resolved to quickly for me, and Jagger assumed his present was his present way too quickly. For someone who had been burned so much, he certainly trusted without hesitation. Also, why throw so much baggage into a short story for a character and not really have it resolved in any sort of healing except through magical sex that fixes it all?

With what Jagger had experienced, it would take far more than one magical night with an angel to fix or resolve his worries, fears, and his past on any level.

Another 4 Star Review for A Dangerous Reality (Bent Zealots MC 1) By Layla Wolfe – #MC #MM

1.3

Title: A Dangerous Reality (The Bent Zealots MC #1)
Author Name: Layla Wolfe
Publication Date & Length: January 12, 2015 – 310 pgs

Synopsis

Keep your lovers close—and your enemies in bed.
TURK: My club sent me to track him down. And when my mission was over, I never wanted another one again. When I found him, I kicked the crap out of Havelock Singer. I issued the mightiest beatdown of all time. Problem is, we’re evenly matched. We’re equals in every way, and when we finished whaling on each other, exhausted, we fell into each other’s arms.

I’ve never regretted it for an instant. It’s been the ride of my life. But loving another man in the MC world is a risky business. As if our business isn’t already brutal and ruthless enough, Lock’s homophobic sergeant-at-arms Stumpy gets an eyeful of our lovemaking and blackmails us into doing some of his dirty work, or be exposed for what we are—a couple of deviants.

This run into the Indian reservation is sleazy and beneath us, but now I’m cornered, and I’ll do anything to keep my sweet master Lock from being lynched by his club.

LOCK: When that kingpin Carmine Rojas got a load of my beautiful stallion Turk Blackburn, he’d stop at nothing to have him—and Rojas gets what he wants. It’s my fault we’re in this situation. I should’ve kicked Turk’s ass and sent him packing back to The Bare Bones. I wasn’t even close to being ready to come out, but now they’re forcing my hand.

I can hear my destiny calling me. Either I’ll slink back to my club like a hetero bounty hunter with no morals—and no respect from anyone in my own backyard—or I’ll step up to the plate and be the lion of the day.

Either way, my lover and I are screwed. Our clubs are going to hound us underground or into another country before we escape this mess—if we don’t die trying.

“Living off the grid and being an outlaw brings a dangerous reality.” –Ron Perlman

Publisher’s warning: This book is not for the faint of heart. It contains scenes of gay sex, consensual BDSM, illegal doings, dubious consent, and man-on-man violence.

I enjoyed this story quite a bit. It was a little long winded in some areas, but the overall feel of the book was great. I really enjoyed Turk and Lock. Both were rough around the edges, but in the end, they were exactly what each other needed. Twinkletoes was my next favorite character. I liked that his character, while having a medical issue was not down played, or down written. He was just as much a part of the group – he was integral to the outcome of the story.
The chemistry between Lock and Turk was off the charts. Wolfe did a great job at keeping the roughness of the biker persona while portraying the dynamic between a Dom and his submissive.
Wolfe did a great job creating a twisting, turning story line that was both complex, but believable.  I really liked how the characters were created – shaped to become their own, cohesive group.

This was a great story about life as a celebrity. What it’s like to be famous and the lack of real, personal connections. Ryan is gay, but he isn’t free to live as he wants or even date the men he would like to because he is famous for being a heart throb, a straight heart throb.
Dar is just looking to talk to his best friend when he ends up with a stranger on the other end. When the stranger wants to keep talking because he enjoys having a conversation that is free of ‘work’ talk, Dar talks. The two develop a friendship.
I loved the two men and how their relationship evolved, but I will say that it lost a star for me because it was a bit over the top, lovey dovey after fairly little interaction.
Overall, not a bad story as it’s cute with a bit of super hot thrown in.
Renee
FourStars

Ryan Pierce is a movie star – he is living his dream. At least, that’s what he thinks until he sees that he can’t be himself. He realizes how lonely he is.

Dar Phillips is a super sweet character. He knows what he wants, goes after it, is honest and a dose of reality for Ryan.

The spark over the phone is palpable – Watts writes beautifully when she describes their reactions. I love that even with the short amount of time that they spend on the phone together – they understand their connection.

And, of course, there must be some kind of angst within the story – this had some believable scenarios which I appreciated. Too many times there are “insta-love” stories with strange connections that authors force, but Watts did a great job at having a much more real flow to her story.

There were a few areas that needed the editor to go back over – just typos or missed spacing – but nothing overtly obvious. Overall, this was a sweet story.

NDS

Title: No Denying Sin (#3 of N’awlins Exotica Series – StandAlone)
Author Name: BL Morticia
Publication Date & Length:  December 30, 2014 – 155pgs

Synopsis

Living in the Big Easy is downright deadly especially if you’re a stripper. When another exotic dancer is found dead in her apartment, the heat mounts on Frankie and his fellow detectives to find the killer. Due to the magnitude of this unsolved mystery along with the LaBoy murders, tension runs high at nineteen making it hard for all to breathe around the police station and sending everyone into a frenzy.

There’s no denying Frankie’s love for Kajika but in the back of his mind, hot thoughts of the mutual jerk off with Orrin Daugherty loom over his head. Though the feelings are mutual, Orrin wants nothing to do with this and pushes Frankie away. Add in to the mix his fascination with partner Vance Morain along with his severe case of blue balls and you got one hell of a predicament for these for complex and volatile men.

The men at nineteen are burning with desire for one another and pleasure is beginning to be almost as important as business.

Will the sinful disruptions stop them from finding the killer roaming the streets of the Big Easy?

This is book 3 of N’awlins Exotica Series. Doesn’t necessarily need to be read in order.

Vance and Orrin had great chemistry. I did find the names of this story hard to keep track of – Unfortunately, when I read, if the names are not common, like in this story, it’s harder for me to follow. This had a lot of characters too, so Morticia had to continually had to name who was speaking, which I appreciated, but it was also slightly choppy because of that.
I enjoyed the mystery of this story, but the characters kind of fell flat for me. I don’t know if it was because there were so many or if it was because the two main characters kind of danced around each other. The character of Kenina really was hard to relate to. I can’t stand racism, sexism, etc. and she embodies those things. Even though, I think she might have learned her lesson, she just rubbed me the wrong way and her partner, Frankie too, since he always stood up for her.
I think the biggest issue I had was that I had not read the previous books in this series and I think that might have helped me a lot. Even though it says that the books do not need to be read in order, I think it would have helped.
I definitely want to read what happens next, as the mysteries keep building.

This book was a easy read, it flowed well, had a lot going on and kept me interested.
Loved that they were all hot cops and that it was very steamy between the crew.  I found Kenina a real pain, which I’m sure that was what the author was going for, it added a lot to the story dealing with her opinions of her co workers. I loved that Vance and Orrin tried there hardest not to become involved in each other. But the end result was even better. There was a lot of hot sex, but also a decent story about finding a killer.  This was book 3, it read well as a standalone but I think reading the other 2 first and in order would make more sense.

“Good morning, Officer Daugherty.” A young male clerk behind the desk in the fitness center called out to him.

“Mornin.” Orrin nodded and kept going. He wondered if the glow from getting some was still on his face from the night prior or if he’d really caught the man’s eye as he hoped.

Either way, he had to admit he hadn’t felt this good in days—no, make that weeks. He’d slept, had sex, and a good breakfast when he finally rolled out of bed at two p.m. With all that going on, he felt he could get through just about anything, including work. 5 Stars for Rough Around the Edges (#4 in Tales from The Edge) by L.M. Somerton – #MM #BDSM @lmsomerton @Totally_Bound

1.3

Title: Rough Around the Edges
Author Name: L.M. Somerton
Publication Date : February 20, 2015

Synopsis

Can a new beginning be found in leather and chains?

Kai Smithson’s life changes dramatically with his first glimpse into the world of BDSM. Completely innocent, Kai can hardly believe his eyes, but he knows what he likes and apparently that’s hot, dominant men in leather. He isn’t sure if he’s a submissive because he doesn’t really know what that means, but the feelings he is experiencing are exciting and new.

Harry Croft, bar manager at The Underground BDSM Club, believes in insta-lust rather than love at first sight. And when he agrees to train Kai, the contract between them has one condition—no sex. But Kai has some very definite plans about losing his virginity and a piece of paper is not going to stand in his way. In his new friends at the club and at The Edge, Kai has a ready-made support group of subs that show him that the only rules in a D/s relationship are those he wants to make for himself.

The old saying that you can choose your friends but not your family is proved horribly true for Kai, as the mysteries of his past are revealed. As he and Harry start out on their journey together, they must contend with bullets as well as bondage, danger alongside domination, and it’s not easy to establish trust when the whole world is going to hell.

Reader Advisory: This book contains characters who have extremely prejudiced views and scenes referencing physical abuse.

Publisher’s Note: This book is best read in sequence as part of a series.

This book contains BDSM scenes and an abusive home life. If either of those bother you, do not read.

I really enjoyed the innocence that Kai exuded. While I didn’t read any of the other books in this series, I didn’t feel that I was lacking in knowing what was going on at all.

Harry and Kai make such an incredible Dom/Sub pair. I love how Harry is so patient with Kai and how Kai is so eager to learn. The sexual chemistry between the two is off the charts. Their journey was fairly realistic, which I appreciated. It wasn’t that Kai was just dumped into the scene because he was curious. Harry took his time to teach, guide and eventually, the relationship progressed.

The sex…HOLY COW! I love how Harry takes charge – his Dom juju made my heart beat faster.

I hope there are more books in this series, because I would definitely read them.

Any pairing is possible for this imprint (MF, MM, MFM, MMF), and we’re looking for a Burning/Melting heat rating to really get those heartbeats racing. Please send a synopsis in the first instance tosubmissions@totallybound.com

These do need to be 60k in length!
